The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

Uff. I am fading. :)

So good night, don't let the bedbugs bite! :cloud9:

Hubby is running late tonight, we woke up late.. had to prime a PAK (takes 2 hours) and a SAK of diasylate fluid (6 hours) wasn't ready until 9 pm.

He could have run on bags (premixed) but figured we are up late anyway on most nights :rolleyes1 might as well run late too.

I check on him once in awhile, keep an ear out for alarms. But he can easily run the show.

Tomorrow night he will run on his own, I'm going to a concert at the Ochestra Hall with my sis :goodvibes

Mozart Sinfonia , I love Mozart the most of classical music. :lovestruc

Is it wrong of me to be excited that my hubby is working this weekend??? ;) :cool1: :cool1:

GOOD MORNING HYENAS! Got sucked into a hillarious Scrabble game last night. We were teaching DS how to play Scrabble. We've tried to teach him before, but really before they hit about 10-12 it's a bit frustrating for them. Anyway, we decided to play the first game without keeping score. We had the zaniest words and had so much fun. DD put down RIDEN as in I'm goin' riden' on my motorcycle!:lmao: Which I then made into Benriden, you know as in a)Bin Laden's brother or b)we've benriden on our motorcycles!:lmao: I had one that used up all 7 letters...MNIIOOP...as in "L, M, N, O, P" except I didn't have the L, only the ehminowpe!:lmao:

Now for the really funny one...DD didn't know what a Pixy was!:scared1: As in Tinkerbell, Pixy Dust!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Then when I put the word Roe down, she said "No way, that's not a real word". I told her it was fish eggs or caviar and she challenged me! Yep, there is was in the dictionary.:rotfl:

I was reading the thread on Thanksgiving turkeys.. OMG. Would it be wrong to make a big ole Thanksgiving dinner this weekend? That sounds so freaking good right now. But I have to ask my mom for her recipes first. Stuffing... gravy... I now know why my moms gravy is different. Turkey bits! DUH. Yum. Im so hungry. :lmao:

No it would not be wrong at all. What time shall we be there? The key to good gravy and stuffing is internal turkey organs. Yep, boil the neck and all internal organs on the back of the stove, use the water for your stuffing and gravy, makes a lovely broth. I personally don't like chunks of internal organs floating around in my gravy, but I have no problem with the neck meat and so I use that.

That might be a pretty big undertaking by then, though. Unless you did one of those take-out Thanksgiving dinners. I don't know if those are any good at all or not... :confused3

We did a Safeway take out/pick up Thanksgiving dinner the year I was going thru chemo. It was ok is all I can say. Better than AM/PM, but way worse than home cooked. I felt so totally useless and remember going into the bathroom and shutting the door and crying because I couldn't even cook a proper Thanksgiving dinner for my family. My family was great about it and we all sat there and pretended that it was the best thing since sliced bread. :rotfl: I did make a few side dishes to go with it and I can remember the bottom of my feet hurting so bad that it was painful to stand in the kitchen. Yes, chemo makes the bottom of your feet ache. Anyway, now when I see an ad for the pre-cooked Holiday Meals I feel like I want to barf because it reminds me of chemo.

Thanksgiving discussions?

Too early, we haven't even tackled Halloween yet.

Not sure what will happen this year, E called his mom and she sounded down about the whole holiday scene. I guess with her kiddos flung far from her wings and no more house.. it is all overwhelming for her. She doesn't want to cook a thing.. but BIL offered to come from Michigan and do the meal.. not sure what that means for us???

Sis typically does her own (with her DS diet restrictions, need natural turkey with no additives) or she goesw to her inlaws.

And we DO NOT go to my parents house, they get us twice year if they are lucky :snooty: .. summer and week before Christmas. That's about all I can handle of my dad.... and all that I can handle to keep E away from my dad. :scared: Why ruin a good day of feasting by getting upset with the company involved. ;)

There are ways to overcome obnoxious relatives. #1 Prozac, #2 a glass of wine, #3 a glass of wine, #4 a glass of wine, #5 a glass of wine.:lmao: Of course my SIL is a complete idiot, but I have learned over the years to just act very nice and gracious...she will hang herself quite nicely!:rotfl:

Good morning, hyenas!
Ummm... Not sunny. But not rainy, either! :thumbsup2

Is it wrong of me to be excited that my hubby is working this weekend??? ;) :cool1:
GEESH, not in this economy! Guess we ought to be grateful for all the OT our DHs work. Makes me feel a little guilty for when I griped about it.

Not that I intend to STOP griping about it forever, mind you. But I am definitely grateful DH has a job. ::yes::

Bernice, thought you might like to read today's take on Komen message board about all the Pink Stuff and the other less known diseases.

http://apps.komen.org/Forums/tm.aspx?m=256962

Sam, I followed the link and read through (at least part of) the discussion. I agree with the posters who said that breast cancer gets a lot more attention because it's a lot more prevalent. More people are affected by breast cancer (by having it or someone they love having it), and therefore it makes sense that more people would donate to that cause. People tend to donate to those causes that affect them personally. I know that DH and I do.

I also agree with the poster who suggested that breast cancer research may uncover keys to treating/curing other cancers. :thumbsup2

So while we do get bombarded by a sea of pink in October, I'm OK with that. I can see where it could be a bit disturbing to someone fighting the fight, though, a barrage of "Cancer! You have cancer!" when you just want to forget for a few minutes.

I've thought of getting my mom some really nice piece of jewelry or some of the other products they have, but hesitated because I wasn't sure if she'd appreciate that, or would it be a constant reminder to her of this thing hanging over her like a black cloud? I still don't know. So I haven't. :confused3

It's time to sign DS4 up for his next gymnastics session, so I went to the gym today. I chatted a bit with the gal behind the counter, since she's one of his former teachers and I noticed he isn't trying as hard and engaging in a little misbehavior in class lately.

We discussed several things, including notifying his teacher that it's OK to make him sit out a turn or even come sit with me for a bit if he's really out of hand. She said they really try NOT to do stuff like that unless a parent gives the OK, because some parents freak out if their kid misses a turn. She said they even had one parent of a little primadonna who insisted that her child should always be FIRST in line, her child should be the one chosen to demonstrate a new move, and lord help them if she ever missed a turn! Can you imagine??? :sad2:

So I'm going to tell his current teacher that it is OK (please!) to keep him in line. And we're also going to try him out in a trampoline-only class in a few weeks, and see how he likes it. Maybe his misbehavior is boredom, so if he likes the trampoline, that's what he'll do next session. :)

I surely understand that one. I am very happy I decided to help out DH a bit - what started out as a buffer between his lost pay has become a necessary boost :thumbsup2
