The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

I have a question for you guys.

Did you watch Obama's speech on Tuesday evening? I saw the bulletproof glass around him and my jaw dropped. I know there was at least one death threat made against him already, and some white supremacists (I believe) were arrested.

I was just curious... If McCain had won, would he also have been behind bulletproof glass? Is this the state of America, of American politics today? I was just so surprised by that. And very saddened that so many nutjobs are in this world. :sad2:

I didnt watch the speech, but I saw the news the next morning and noticed it. We were talking about it, and in a place that big... with all those people... I think it is WAY better safe then sorry. Especially.. Well considering all the crack pots out there. You know? I didnt notice the glass around McCain.. but his venue didnt look as big.

Oh, I totally agree. It just surprised me. And made me sad.

It was such a polarizing campaign, people were really passionate, which is fine, but the rabid, partisan antagonism was not anything like I'd seen before.

In fact, most of the posts I've seen on the DIS have mellowed, people are really trying to be positive and hope for the best in the next four years. But some are still so, soooo bitter. It's just very sad to me.

I know it! My inlaws....:rolleyes1 Freaking crack pots. We were betting on whether or not they had barricaded themselves in their house yet...

Staley, did you see Sherry Shephard talk about the win with her son? She woke him up, and he asked her who won. She said, "Obama", and then told him, "No limits. No limits for you, baby." It was really emotional to watch, I cried buckets! :rotfl:

Yes...I did see that. And I have my own little confession. When Alex got up that morning, and we were watching the news.. He asked what the big deal was. I explained it to him.. and just sobbed.

I have a confession to make, too. When Obama first won the nomination, I told DH, "I don't think he can do it. Some people will not allow it, they'll never vote for a black man." This is something I thought would not occur in my lifetime.

It felt good to be wrong. :)

You know... I had honestly never thought about it. but when I looked at Alex.. WOW. It just hit me, you know? Must have been the hormones. :confused3

I know. I thought about it in abstract terms, but when it actually HAPPENED, it just blew my mind. And it's not just African American people, either. Several Latino people have said the same thing. And with an Arab/Muslim name, no less. HOPE.

:goodvibes Yep. :thumbsup2

On a lighter note.. I think I am getting a recliner for Christmas! :cool1: Frelan has been wracking his brain trying to think of something to get me, and I mentioned in passing that I would love a recliner.. He just jumped on it. Hopefully we find something decently priced. Once I have that, Ill just need a laptop, and I am on my way to being comfy!:thumbsup2 :lmao:

Hiya, Sam!

Isn't it way past your bedtime??? :lmao:

You've been peeking in my windows, haven't you?! :lmao:

 What are you doing here??? Its so late!

Well since DH is still at elk camp, I've had to take over his duties. That includes waiting up for 3 teenage girls to get home.:lmao: Actually they just got back, they rented some movies and have now taken over my king size bed. So I guess I'm sleeping in DD's room tonight.

You know how Lynn was intimidated by him? :confused3

I think he's intimidated by the pregnant YOU. "Don't tell her! Don't tell her I said that!" :rotfl2:

Might I make a recommendation? Get the gigantic oversize ones...then the kidlets can fit in the chair with you.:thumbsup2 We had rocking recliner chairs when the kids were babies.

Wow, Sam! I thought my recliner was large, but I guess the technical term is "overstuffed". Yours is very wide!

It's true, the kids do always climb in to sit with me. Even DS8, which kind of surprises me when it happens. He's much less snuggly these days, unless he's sleepy or hurt or scared. ;)

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Ill bet I could take him. ;) But he could probably outrun me. THAT would be a shame. :rotfl2: Heck... MY husband is scared of me right right now. If I could tie my own shoes... Ill bet he would move out for the duration. :lmao:

ALISON!!! You know.. That is JUST what he wants to get me! We saw one on a commercial, and he commented on how perfect it would be for us.
