The Groovy New Pop Century FAQ Thread!

Hello :)

We are staying in POP the first week in June. I have a question about the refrigerators for medical use - what are the requirements? My husband has type 1 diabetes and needs to keep insulin cool (doesn't have to be refrigerated but needs to stay below a certain temperature). I'm wondering if that would qualify for the refrigerator. What do you think?

If so, how do we get one? Is it the size of a regular mini-fridge?

Thanks!

I haven't read through to see if you had other responses, but I never heard of getting a free refrig for medical reasons, but I could be wrong. It cost 10 dollars aday to rent a frig, and you just ask for it on your reservation. You could ask if you could get one for free for medical reasons and see what they say.

Ok, don't take this as me being mean, but does anyone else find it really annoying to have the coofee and frig swap announcements on here about every other page. I don't know why, but it really bugs me. I guess I feel it should be left on the budget board, and it has been announced here already, and doesn't need to be on every other page.
Sorry. Just my rant.

i think the reason for it is because not everyone is so familiar with the DIS that they even know about the budget board or the swaps. this a thread that's very popular for people who are staying at POP, especially the newbies. and so it's a great way to spread the word.

Please excuse me if this has been asked before, but this thread is just too long to read all the way through....

We have requested connecting preferred rooms at POP for 9/8 - 9/16. I have some mobility issues so I was worried about having to walk too far after being in the parks all day. Stairs are a definite no-go for me. Should I request a ground-floor room or do you think this would be too loud. I was going to request a room in the 50s building away from the pool on the ground floor. Is that too much to ask or just a bad idea in general?:confused3

Yes I have posted coffee swap thread here a few times. Many don't have time to go through and read each page of this thread so I just wanted new ones to know. Sorry to annoy you.:hippie:

I have heard of the free refrigerators and understood that those who need insulin would qualify for them.

There are new people on these boards everyday so it is new info for some people. I learne about it here not on the budget boards. I used the swap in Feb and think it is an awesome idea.

Diabetics can qualify for a free fridge. My dad is diabetic and requests one for medical reasons every trip. Has never been charged for the fridge during his stay. Hope that helps. :)

I have mobility issues as well and on the last trip requested, in this order, non-smoking, connecting, close to the elevator. Since we pay for preferred, I don't include this in the request. I figure close to the elevator or ground-floor satisfies my need. We were 4 doors from the elevator in connecting rooms. I hope that helps.

Do you think the ground floor would be too loud if we are not on the pool side? I was also wondering if you told them why you were requesting near an elevator.

I am sure this has been asked before, but...

How are the buses to the parks at Pop?

It all kind of depends on the time of year and everything. However, we've been during some busy times and really have not had many problems. The nice thing about POP is that it goes directly to the parks without any other stops.

Now, I read on another thread that the food court now has frozen coke! Woo hoo! Now how excited is everyone about that??!!

Yep, and they also have a blue-raspberry slush too! I love the frozen cokes. Have you heard that they have new mugs? It looks like all resorts might have the same mug?

Blue-raspberry slush! YUM! I am sooo excited to go! I think they are YOAMD mugs. I liked our olds mugs a lot so I don't even really particularly like these. Blasphemous, I know.

We have stayed at POP before but I really didn't like our room. We were in the 80's section, first floor with a very dark room.

I am going to be making reservations and need help with a request. I would like a room close to the playground, goofy jets and facing a direction that will get some good sunlight in October. And possibly (now I'm asking for everything) facing Epcot for the fireworks. Distance from cinema hall doesn't concern me. Anyone have any suggestions of a certain building?
thanks!

I think this might be directed to me.

When making my requests, I simply say that I have difficulty with walking long distances and would prefer to be near the elevator/lobby/Classic Hall(for POP). No resort (you can see where we have stayed) has ever not fulfilled this request. Once at YC, we were put at the end of the hallway and we nicely asked if there was anything closer to the lobby and we were quickly reassigned a MUCH closer room. (They were being nice and had given us a water view room.) Some CMs will mention that free wheelchairs are available at the resort.

Regarding the noise, it really depends what would be tolerable to you. I have 2 kids, coach basketball/softball, lots of nieces and nephews and have NO problem tuning out the sounds of kids. The racket in the car can drive my DH nuts but I don't really 'hear' it. ;)

If ground-floor is really important to you, I would add non-poolside because you don't get as much foot traffic in front of your room (people going from the building to the food court/buses/Classic Hal). That would probably bother me more (the foot traffic) because I like to have the curtains open.

I hope that helps! :)
