The MGM lights are already in place in August, or at least they were in Aug. 05. Shocking!

If the first MVMCP is Nov. 10, then I would expect the MK decorations would at least be up.

we'll be there 12-5 through 12-12! I cannot WAIT!!!!!!!!!

My oldest son is SOOOOOO exciteD!

We are checking into Pop on November 8th. Will we get to see the Christmas decorations??? I hope so! We are checking out on the 15th, so I hope if they are not up when we check in they are at least put up while we are there!!

I went to Disney last Nov 11-17. On my first night MK had decorations up, as did all the parks on my trip. Some of the characters were dressed up in holiday duds, especially at MGM. When I arrived POP there were no Christmas decorations up, but by the day I checked out it was completely dressed up for Christmas! A tree in the lobby, garlands, and wreaths and trees in the food court windows. It looked very retro and fun! I can't remember what day it was, but I went to sleep and there was no tree in the Classic Hall lobby, then in the morning like magic, there was a big beautiful tree! :)

I'm going this November, a few days earlier than last year.... I hope I see the parks all decked out for Christmas again!

I thought I heard that the decorations go up immedialtely following Halloween, but I'm not entirely sure.

Yep..we were there last year on Halloween until Nov 2nd I believe and this is what we saw at F&W:

MOM, you are one of those folks who does not put up their decorations until after Thanksgiving and has them down by New Years are you not? :scared1: Back in the day, when I won many awards for such, I used to keep my Christmas lights around my windows all year long so I only had to plug them in. I call it efficiency. :rotfl:

I do not care when they put the lights up as long as they have them up when I am there, July 4th included. :rotfl2:

I do hate the stores rushing the season though. :sad2:

Ya know me so well!
Actually, my family (growing up) would put decorations up in December, and take them down around Epiphany (Jan. 6).

My SIL puts them up on the day after T-giving, and takes them down Christmas Day.

Decorating has gotten so much easier now that I just avoid it until the kids can't stand it anymore then they haul it all out and do it themselves.
Works for me! :santa:

MOM, you can just tell about some people. :rotfl: I used to be you, a very long time ago.

I have an entire room full of Christmas decorations, mostly Disney, in my basement but since I can barely get myself up and down those stairs they have not seen the light of day in several years.

I would ask my husband to get them but the naughty words he says if asked to do any work scare me. Consider a Nativity Scene being carried to the tune of 'those' kind of words.:scared1: Not to mention his penchant for 'accidentally' breaking stuff if forced to do any work. :confused3

Thanks for all the info! We are staying at the POP for 2 nights in September 2009 before changing resorts. We do not have tickets for those days so I was wondering which location would be best. I have a preferred room, I was thinking of requesting the 60's sections to be close to the pool. What do you think? We will have DD with us and she will be 2.5 by then. Thanks!

Thanks for this thread! It was actually pretty helpful! I didn't know you could fax requests over! I will for sure do that!

I just came across these little tid-bits of info that I found interesting, so I thought I would pass them on.

Fun Facts about Pop ---

The bowling pin icons tower more than 65 feet high. A regulation bowling pin is 15 inches tall.

If you count the giant bowling pin icons, there are nine standing around the resort. Where's the tenth? It's actually the bowling pin pool in the courtyard!

Take a closer look at the pool deck around the bowling pin pool and you'll spot the triangular lane markings that are seen on bowling alleys everywhere.

The Rubik's Cube icons reach a peak of 41 feet off the ground. By comparison, a Rubik's Cube puzzle toy stands nearly four inches at its tallest point.

The resort's 8-track tapes are more than 35 feet tall, with "tape" that is more than one-foot in width. A real 8-track tape is a mere five-and-one-quarter inches tall, with a tape that is only one-quarter inch wide.

The table soccer players are more than 12 feet tall, and the "toy" ball is more than two-and-one-half feet in diameter.

Nearly 125,000 gallons of paint were used to create the bright colors and tie-dyed hues on the buildings' interior and exterior walls.

In the 1960s area, giant "thumbprints" can be spotted on the ears of the elephant peeking out of the giant Play-Doh canister. And can you name the child depicted on the Play-Doh can? That's Play-Doh Pete!

The giant Big Wheel icon can "accommodate" a child rider that weighs up to 877 pounds (or so says the sticker on the towering riding toy). That matches the stickers that were affixed to the original Big Wheel toys of the 1970s that designated a "recommended child weight."

Service and equipment buildings are cleverly disguised all over the resort. At the 1950s bowling pin pool, the laundry looks like a bowling shoe storage bin. In the 1990s, an equipment building appears to be a larger-than-life stack of computer floppy disks.

The 1970s courtyard pays tribute to the age of disco, with a motion-based disco light mounted in the middle of the courtyard. This color-changing light sends streams of light across the '70s-inspired outdoor "dance floor."

"Peace of Pizza" delivery trucks resemble old Volkswagen vans complete with roof-mounted surfboards.

We liked building 5 of the 60's, which is Baloo and Mogli. We were opposite the pool, but near the Goofy water jets...perfect for your daughter!

Do you have to call the reservation phone number again to see where (which room)you are staying? We made our reservation and she told us nothing about our room number or anything! Should I be worried.:confused3

When we stayed at Sports last year, they did not want to tell us what room we were in, even the morning of our arrival. I only found out b/c I got connected to housekeeping to confirm a pack and play and fridge for the room. We had requested baseball and got put in basketball. After speaking with a manger, they were able to make a switch for us. I think they generally don't give out room assignments until you arrive.

You normally find out when you check in. However, you can call 3-4 days ahead of your visit and make a request for a specific location. Hope this helps and welcome to the DIS!

I had a quick question. We are staying our first time at Pop, Sept 6-13. When I booked the vacation back in April, we booked standard room, but I asked if we could be in the 60s section, facing the lake. The CM stated to me, no, we could not request that section because the entire 60s section was preferred. :confused3

Now I looked at the preferred sections vs the standard sections in post #1, and it shows that the rooms facing the lake in the 60s section are standard. Can I call back now and hopefully have a CM that knows what they are talking about put our request in?

Thanks a bunch! We cannot wait!
