5 1/2 weeks until our first trip to POP! I just upgraded our room to a preferred location. I was on the fence about it... we had a preferred room at All Star Sports once and it was horrible because we were right at the pool - during a cheerleading thing. They shrieked in the pool until 3am! I'm feeling lazy at the moment though and since the value rooms don't have a fridge, I want a closer walk to the food court. So I'm crossing my fingers that this is for the best!

I've never paid for a preferred room. We've always been happy with our location. The 90's was a little far from the food court, but not horribly so. Its not a spread out resort like some of the others, so unless you have mobility issues, its not far. We were near the 80's pool once. I actually liked our rooms that we've had in the 70's best because they were so close to everything yet, we didn't have to pay preferred. I also liked the views we had in the 70's. Once we had a view of trees (room 0125), it was kind of quiet. Another time we were on the 2nd floor and looked out over the foosball table courtyard.

Hi. I have a question I didn't see on the FAQ (and BTW, it took me like 4 threads to find this one.)

Okay, my question...my DSis and her DH are going to POP in about 2 weeks. Being as it's the anniversary trip they want a King Bed. Being as when I go it's always my DM71, DD11, and myself DM51, we always get 2 doubles. So here's the question...

Are King Beds only available on the ground floor or are the available throughout the resort? I suggested to them that they try for a 4th floor room but if they can't get a King Bed they won't do it.

TIA

Oh, and another BTW, the link mentioned on the first page for Fridge Swaps is horribly out of date. My swap is mentioned as being 2 years old. My swap is currently approaching 5 years (this August) and has a few openings in 2011 and many in 2012. I am the original organizer and have been running it since Aug. 06. I have personally used it 5 times now and hope to use it in the fall for the 6th. Click on link in my siggie to be taken to the first page where all availables are listed. :goodvibes

As for preferred rooms, we prefer the 50's building, Tramp building, facing the lake, top floor. Fairly close to the parking lot, close enough to Everything POP and nice and quiet.

On page141 post 2115 they have a link that shows where the King rooms are located in each building, and floor. I have found if you do not want a King room with a HC shower when requesting a King rm ask for one with a tub.

Some pictures of my recent stay at Pop Century (April 13-21). As I previously mentioned, DH and I arrived around 1130pm and I was pleasantly surprised that we had been granted our one request: a King room. We were placed in building 10, on the fourth floor.

I was able to store our carry-on bags in the cubby-holes of the new dresser.

The safe was large enough to house our 17in laptop. I had to bring it for a class I'm taking for my master's otherwise we wouldn't have had it.

The room had modifications in it for an individual in a wheelchair or a scooter. The shower, however, was not handicap accessible. DH and I would consider staying at Pop again - we greatly enjoyed our time here!

we just returned from POP!! Stayed april 14-22nd and had a wonderful time. We were in building 9 ground floor facing the pool. So convenient to the pool, laundry and it was such a short walk along the sidewalk to the buses and the entrance to the gift shop/foodcourt. Don't know why people complain about those sections being so far. It was awesome to get to the bus in the am:lovestruc can't wait to see how the new value across the lake will turn out.

Hey, I think this is the same room we had over Thanksgiving. :thumbsup2

Glad you had a great time!!

Guys I need your help!

We will be checking-in next saturday (May 7th) for a single night with a party of 15 people. Then, the next day, the same Gathering has a 2nd reservation to the Pop for 6 more nights (We were forced to proceed this way to keep our deals/Code when we wanted to add that extra May 7th night).

There is one member of the Gathering that is in a wheelchair.

My question is the following :
I already asked for ground floor rooms when I originally placed the May 8th reservation (back in september) and I was told that when you have a gathering planned, they usually give you room in the same general area. Is that correct?

Since we had to place 2 seperate reservations for our stay, I'm afraid we will need to change room after the first night and I want to avoid that if possible.

Should I call and double check with the front desk? Should I use the general Pop Century's phone number?

Thank you very much for your help!

Eric

Random question for DH:

He is lactose intolerant. Does the Pop food court offer Dairy Free creamer and Splenda for his coffee, or should he just bring his own?

I know they had Splenda the last time we were there and I THINK the creamer was Coffeemate, but hopefully someone who has been there more recently can validate.

22 Days until our first stay at POP!!!:cool1: My girls and I are watching the Disney Planning DVD and going through the Disney Box to see what we still need!!!!:goodvibes I have been waiting for this weekend for a long time and I am sooooo excited that it is finally here!! :cloud9:

Free peanut butter?

They actually sell Pop Tarts at the Pop. I know they sell them at the shop at Saratoga and Old Key West too. At the Pop, people are VERY relaxed in the food court. No one cares if you toast your own bagels or Tarts. Its very nice. In fact, I couldn't find any Lactaid milk at the food court, so I asked the manager, Kevin about it. He was incredibly helpful. They said they keep all the specialty dietary items in the back so as not to get contaminated by regular food. They bring them out upon request. He actually brought the chef out to meet me. He shook my hand and asked if there was anything he could do for me. He told me all of his non-dairy options. I said Lactaid milk would be fine. He brought out a nice big cup of it and didn't even charge me for it! He told me to just ask whatever I needed. I did. :cloud9: I love the food court at Pop!

Thanks for this post. I never knew they had lactaid in the back. My DH never eats cereal at the food court because of the milk, and I never thought to ask about it. We have always brought our own coffee supplies because of the coffee and made do.

I have been part of two grand gatherings and yes they keep the rooms as close as possible unless one room wants to request something different then only they will be put in a different location and the rest will still be together.

I have had to do a split reservation several times and only needed to change rooms once. You will not know 100% till you check in but more than likely you will not have to change rooms.

Personally, I find calling and faxing senseless but that is just my opinion. If you call you get general reservations that just puts the request on your reservation so if you already did that it does nothing more. If you fax it is hit or miss if the room assigner even bothers reading them. I find it best to just ask nicely when I check in if they were able to fulfill our requests and go from there.

Angela

Disney now has Nutrasweet-branded sucralose (same as Splenda) in yellow packages. It is the same as Splenda but not the the Splenda brand. All the sweeteners are Nutrasweet-branded now (blue, pink, yellow).

I've read conflicting info, so not sure what to do. Will be at POP on May 13. Now, I've called the Disney number, and put down my room preferences (60's or 70's building, high floor, not facing pool). Now, do I :

- call POP directly 10 days before leaving to tell them my preferences (which sorts of defeats the purpose of calling the Disney number IMO)
- fax POP
- should I do online check-in or not?

Everyone seems to have an idea on the best way to go. This is my first time staying on property.

You have done all you can do previous to your arrival. :)
You cannot call POP directly - all phone calls through the central reservation center - which is who you have already put your room preference with.
You cannot fax POP - they no longer read faxes regarding room requests.

You will not find out where you room is until you check in. The good news is that the CM's at POP are wonderful and I am sure they will do everything they can to accomodate you. If you are put in a section that you do not want you can certainly ask the CM at the desk if they have anything available in the sections you would like. If you want to discuss your room location at check in, I would not do on-line check in. That is for folks who want to pick up their keys and go...if you want to discuss your room options when you check in I would do regular check in.
