Hello everyone! I'm trying to read through this thread and have only finished page 20 so far.

Our family went to Disney (first time) this past Sept and stayed at CSR. We really wanted those queen beds, and the kids loved the pool.

Now I'm booking a trip to POP for just my husband & I next Sept. My parents totally surprised & floored us by saying they would look after the kids for a week! :cool1: I have been dancing on air for the past two days! :goodvibes

I read that there are very few king-size bed rooms available. We would really prefer this as it's our first trip (by ourselves!) in 15 years! ;)

So, I guess our best chance of getting a king is to make that our one & only request? Or do you think I could get away with requesting a particular building as well?

I have heard each one takes a credit. Only recently have I heard a few people get both for 1 credit. Maybe it has changed, but in the past it was 1 credit each.

There are no preferred rooms facing the lake. If you want to be closer to the food court and bus stops and not want poolside, you could ask for 70's.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for the info! I was just getting ready to fax them and I was leaning towards the 70's since I don't see a pool.

Just got back from our stay at POP!! It was great. Taking a fan for noise was wonderful! It really helped all sleep better. We were in room 7450...phew, that was a walk to the buses and to Classic Hall. It was a quiet location. Bus service was great.

We had free dinning.....quick service really doesn't offer a lot of variety. I am glad that I did a lot of research ahead of time to try and find different food. Starring Rolls Cafe was WONDERFUL!

I love the renovated rooms. The privacy curtain is great! The carpet is really nice.

One funny thing I did notice is.....my dd's and I wanted to go to MK for EMH one night. We were at DTD and caught the Contemporary Bus so we could hop on the monorail to get to MK. Well, we went into CR and used the bathroom in the lobby....their toliet paper is nicer than POP!!! How come they don't have the same TP at all the resorts??? We thought it was an interesting observation

Also, are all rooms refurbished now? Will be faxing in room request and not sure if I even need to specify refurbished now.

I'm wondering if all the rooms are refurbished now as well. I requested top floor, facing the lake but I'm wondering if there is a building not done yet that I need to avoid?

The only building that may still remain to be completely done is building 2 in the 50's section. If you fax in a room request and/or call to add the request to your room ressie, specifying others area than the 50's or specific building number in the 50's (for example, building 1 or 3) should equate to a refurbed room.

5 more sleeps for us  Can't believe it's here already!

Just a few last minute questions:

Taking food to go from food court - are there trays, etc. to carry stuff to room or pool side? Or should I bring something to carry stuff in. Do they pack stuff in "to go" trays? Just wondering of one of us will be able to manage it ourselves, while the other is getting kids ready in room.

Also, are all rooms refurbished now? Will be faxing in room request and not sure if I even need to specify refurbished now.

Thanks. I'm sure I'll be back quite a few more times ironing out last minute details.

Yes, they have trays and you can take them to your room or the pool area. I'm not sure if they have 'to go' trays - I've never seen them.

All of the rooms should be refurbed by now. The only building in question is building #2 in the 50's section.

Have a great trip! I'll soon be counting down the days too - and I can't wait!

Can anyone tell me about the air conditioning units in the new rooms? From what I understand from the first post, most rooms do not have the motion sensor units? Does this mean it will stay at the temperature I put it? I like it really cold at night.
Thanks!

We just got back. We had two rooms connecting (door in between) We kept the doors open between the rooms all the time.

One room was set on 70 and it was cold and stayed that temp all day. The other room was set on 68 and it was warmer than the other. I think they are all different but they do stay the same all day!

Happy thanksgiving to all in the Pop Century thread. I hope everyone has a wonderful day with family and friends.

I'm curious about this as well, but for the opposite reason! I prefer the room slightly warmer. If it's too cold for me, I'll get sick!

I have a question about internet service at Pop I hope someone can answer. Our adult sons (two of them) will be bringing their laptops with them to Disney next week. What do they need to have with them so they both can use theirs at the same time or is it even possible???? I'm not the most computer savy person in the world. :rotfl2: Hope someone can help me!!!!!!!! THANK YOU for any help you can give me.

I am assuming they are in the same room, hence the question. I asked my DH who is a computer programmer, he said you would need a "switch" it is a little box like thing, you could get at walmart or a computer store (staples, best buy). You would plug the ethernet cable, disney provides, into the SWITCH, then they would need to bring their own two additional ethernet cables with them to plug into the SWITCH and into their computers. (I hope that makes sense!)

Now all this is assuming Disney will not have this action blocked, I doubt they would. But remember Disney charges for internet use the details on cost are on the first page first post of this thread! I hope this helps!

I'm not sure how Disney's networks are set up, but this may not work. It isn't that Disney would intentionally block it, but it is very possible that their network is set up to only allocate a single IP address to each room. In that case, a switch (which is a "dumb" node, basically just a pass-through) wouldn't help. You'd need a router to get around that.

But the bigger issue I see with sharing a connection simultaneously is that Disney's so-called high speed is actually barely a step above dial-up and is pretty slow with only one user. With two, it would be really tedious.

Thanks everyone for all the info provided, questions answered, etc. We're off in a couple of hours and the help I received from the DISboards will make it a truly magical vacation, I am sure. :wizard:

Without the DIS, I wouldn't be staying onsite, wouldn't have all the fantastic dining reservations booked, wouldn't have our GAD vouchers to use for fast passes, wouldn't know the best ways to use up my snack credits. :rotfl:

Can't wait - Just crossing my fingers they don't switch us from the POP to another value when we get there.:scared1:

Hey everyone! I requested building 1, should I do online check-in and hope I get my request or just check-in when I get there and ask if there is anything in buiding one if I didn't get it?

This is a good plan! Good luck and have a magical visit with Mickey!:goodvibes

I'm told by a Disney CM that Pop will be used as overflow for the cheerleaders in February since they will most likely fill up the All Stars. So, for those of you who've stayed at Pop in past Februarys, did you notice cheerleader groups? Did you hear them practicing at night?

And do you know what time they eat dinner? We have a 4 year old so we usually leave the parks around 4 or 5 and head back to our room and have dinner at the resort food court. But I'm thinking....if the girls are kept busy all day at WWofS, then they might get released around the same time and go back to their resort and have dinner.

Thanks,
Stephanie

I'm a little nervous about this as well. How packed is it going to be? Are they going to be running around wild? I don't mind teenagers that's not it, heck I have one of my own. lol

I just wonder what it will be like at Pop, I assume from previous post they will be mostly stay at the all stars. Any info on this would be appreciated.

I visited Pop in February 2009 - not sure if it was the EXACT time as the Cheerleading competitions - may have been because I remember seeing girls in the parks and at MCO waiting for ME, but never saw any at Pop.

Perhaps someone else who visited in 2010 can say whether or not they saw any cheerleaders then?

We're here at Pop now. We checked in on 11/27 and got a room in the 50's - lakeside. It's nice and quiet and we have a view of the construction across the lake, which is pretty neat. We were a little worried about going to a value for the first time, but we LOVE Pop!!! :dance3:

Our only complaint is the buses - they are AWFUL this week, and we're not the only ones who seem to think so - we've heard tons of complaints. We've waited upwards of 30 minutes for every bus we've gotten this week so far and they're packing them WAY too full. It's awful. We're lucky that we have a car, so we'll be just driving to the parks from here on out. I feel really sorry for those who don't have a choice. :sad2:
