Sorry - still on the connecting rooms issue - just got an email from my TA who said that room requests cannot be guaranteed by Disney, which I understand.

BUT I will now be travelling with self and 4 kids - we need connecting rooms. The TA said Disney can't guarantee this but surely they wouldn't expect children to occupy a room unsupervised? I would have thought there would NEED to be an adult in each room.

Has anyone travelling with kids ever request connecting rooms and NOT got what they asked for, and had to split the family up? Or put kids in a nearby room on their own? I'm a bit worried about this now. I hope we don't have to swap to an All Star - we love the Pop.

Thanks. Am trying to get hold of a map of some sort so I can be as specific as possible with my room request - I know they can't guarantee anything but last time I was really specific and got EXACTLY what I wanted.

By the way, it can actually be a bad idea to request specific room numbers. If those rooms aren't available, they won't know what to substitute. It's best to just list the (no more than 3) attributes you want, in order of importance.

Just back from a weekend trip to Pop Century. We went for MVMCP, which was great. We haven't stayed in a value for quite a while, so I was a bit concerned, but it was really quite nice. Below is a quick rundown.

The GOOD: very clean resort, our room was ready upon arrival, nice staff at check-in and the buses were insanely efficient. I don't think we waited longer than 7 minutes at any time. It was quieter than I expected based on my memories of other values. Maybe it was just not that busy right now. The food court was nice, as was the gift shop.

The (sort of) BAD: We did hear the toilets flush and could hear people in the room next door. I will say that this was at times when we were up and about anyway, so it wasn't a huge problem. If you're looking for a quiet resort, the values probably aren't the ones for you after all, right? We wanted cheap this weekend, since it was a spur of the moment extra trip.

The UGLY: This was the only thing that really bothered me. There was no bounceback in our room when we arrived. I called housekeeping and asked for one to be left on the next cleaning. It wasn't. The next night, after returning from the park, I went to the front desk to ask about it. The very nice girl from China tried to help, but didn't really know what I was talking about. She did go and ask her supervisor though and really tried to help me. The supervisor, however, also didn't know what I was talking about and gave me an expired flier for a free dining plan and said that was it. Giving up with them, I went back to the room and called housekeeping again. It was a little after 10pm at that point. Housekeeping flatly refused to bring a flier that night and said I could call back at 7 in the morning. I explained that I'd asked for one previously and it hadn't been delivered and we were leaving early in the morning for a character breakfast and asked that they have someone just slip it under the door at any time between then and when they could in the morning. She said they couldn't do that and told me to call in the morning. Ok, so the next morning, promptly at 7, I called housekeeping again and explained again. They said they would bring one, but couldn't promise when. By 7:30, we had to go for our breakfast and since it was our check-out day, we weren't coming back. So, no bounceback for me. Now, this isn't a huge deal for us, since we are FL residents, AP holders and coming back next month to the Grand Floridian for Christmas anyway, but I couldn't help but think that it was sad that someone wanted to return to Disney and was having such a hard time of it. Lets me know that I should find the BB code and number here before I go down!

None of that is to say anything bad about Pop Century, really. It was a nice resort and value for the money can't be beat. We would definitely return and had a wonderful trip.

If you would have just called the number on the expired bounceback flyer they tried to give you they would have told you what the bouceback was and you could have booked. I have found you do not need the actual flyer to book it.

I actually did try that, figuring it couldn't hurt, but the flier did not have the current BB code, so I wasn't able to book the current offer. I realize you don't need the actual flier, just the code and phone number, but without the current code, they wouldn't let me book (though the CM was really nice about it and told me to check at the front desk for a current flier...heh). *shrug* Like I said, it wasn't a huge deal for me, but I felt it was a shame that something that should be fun and easy for guests to do was made difficult. I was trying to give Disney more money, darn it! They just wouldn't take it!

The flier they gave me was not the usual BB offer; it was a free dining plan offer from the summer for stays through mid-October or something. The supervisor said there was no current BB offer, which I knew wasn't true but I wasn't going to argue about it.

I have been able in the past to just call the number and ask what the bb offer currently is. I did not need a code. Hope that hasn't changed for future trips

We leave in 12 days and I am so hoping for a bounceback somewhere between the end of Sept through October of next year, with free dinning! Oh I so hope there is one!!:cool1:

I should have clarified that I was calling the toll free number on the expired flier from my cell phone while waiting in line at Peter Pan. I think you can still call the extension from your room and book without a code. Don't want to panic anyone! It was just too late for me to do that at that point and I didn't have the extension to call anyway. I'll have it with me next time though!

I'm not sure about that. When I was there Sept 26th-Oct 4th I called the extension from my room. The CM did verify that I was actually staying at the resort, then asked for the code at the bottom of the flyer. It was KIL, by the way. This was for free dining for next fall. She may not have needed the code and may have booked it anyway, since she had already verified that I was staying at CSR, but she did ask for it and on my email confirmation it says 'Carribean Beach-KIL Magic Your Way Pkg + Free Dine'.

I'm so bummed I didn't know anything about this bounceback business while I was there last month.

During the vacation I decided we were definitely coming back same time in 2010, and immediately upon return I booked again. If I had known about these offers I would have booked while we were still there!

Hi guys!

Question about space in the room at POP.

We have a toddler who's a monster to sleep with, lol.

She has one of these foam pull out couches, like this:

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3125412

that we are considering taking with us for her to sleep on. Is there adequate room in a standard at the POP to lie it out on?

Thanks!

yeah, those fold out "couches" aren't that big so I think there would be enough room between the beds or along the wall next to the tv cabinet.

Hoping to get as lucky this time.

What rooms/section did you stay in? Floor? Were you facing "in" or "out"?

PS: Saw the map but couldn't really tell from it whether the rooms had doubles or kings unless it was a disability access room - if the room doesn't specify should I just assume it's a double/double?

I've stayed in room 2446-2447. That is located in the Jukebox, 50s building, 4th floor, lakeview.

Have also stayed in the Big Wheel, 70s building, 3rd floor, lakeview but I don't remember the exact room numbers. From looking at the "Room Layout Map" that is listed in the first post of this thread it was probably rooms 6354-6355 but that is just a guess.

We liked both spots pretty equally. The 50s room was a little further away then the 70s room but we didn't mind too much.

Can anyone tell me if POP allows a late checkout? We're checking out of POP and into the Contemporary and 1 of our group is not going to the park and I don't want her to sit on an endless monorail loop till the CR room is ready :lmao: TIA!

Yes they do. We just called early that morning and asked for a late check-out. I think they gave us until 1:00 or 2:00.

For anyone who is planning their first stay at the Pop, I just wanted to let you know...RELAX! We were (very slightly) nervous that we would be disappointed by our first value stay (usually POFQ). I have to say we LOVED POP. The kids liked it even more than than FQ (though they missed the boat to DD). And despite missing my coffee maker, I loved it too. It's FUN FUN FUN. And it's really not that much smaller...really. I bought along a tension rod and cheap shower curtain for privacy (I have an adolescent boy) and our vacation was every bit as enjoyable as previous vacays at FQ. If you're worrying, save your energy for all the fun you're going to have!

What size was the tension rod, I want to do the same thing? It just makes it easier to have a little privacy.

That is a great idea! I would like to know the size of the tension rod too.

I will be sharing the room with my two DSs - 21 and 16. I wanted to stay at POFQ partly because of the privacy curtain. But your idea would solve the problem.

Found this information in the second post

If you need additional privacy from the vanity area or if you're looking to darken the sleeping area while you’re getting ready in the morning, pack a tension rod and shower curtain w/rings or a regular curtain. Place this between the vanity area and the bed area. The width of this "doorway" is 38", so plan accordingly. An alternative is to use two Command Adhesive (removable) Hooks and hang shower curtain on the hooks.

Only 7 more days until I am at Disney!:woohoo:
