We found out today that my Daddy probably has kidney cancer. He only has one kidney due to complications from kidney stones about 40 years ago. They are running more tests Friday, and he goes back to the doctor 2 weeks from today. THe doctor is suggesting removing his kidney, and he would be on dialysis 3 times a week. He's also diabetic, has a rare blood antibody, and a hemphilian, so any surgery is scary. I am so worried.

I have a non-POP question .. we will be staying at POP 6/28-7/05/09 and I purchased the QS meal plan which fits DH and DS's personalities best; but, if we wanted to do a sit down meal somewhere like at Epcot at one of the countries, what are our chances of walking in without a prior reservation? I know this is a busy time of year, but do those restaurants still take walk-ins and is it a huge wait?:)

You just never know. I was there last year at this time and had all my ADR's done. Well, things can change while you are there.. we cancelled a few and did a few walk ins. I even was able to get California Grill on a Saturday night!
Best thing to do is to check in at the restaurant and don't be picky with times.. Try to eat dinner at 4:30-5pm and you have a much better chance. Same thing with Breakfasts.. a later breakfast time will have a much better chance of yielding a result. Good Luck and have fun! :goodvibes

I would NOT do the over the door she hangers. They block the mirror and like you said it's hard to get a fit. We do the ones that have a hanger on them and fit in the closet. You can get them for a buck at the dollar stores. These worked perfectly.

I actually like having it hang off the bathroom door as I bring hangers with me and hang all my stuff up in the closet. I also store my luggage in the closet so there is no room for me to hang the shoe holder. I don't care about the shoe holder blocking the mirror either as I just use the mirror over the sink.

So, I'm still looking for how thick the bathroom door is at Pop.

My thoughts and prayers are with you! My FIL has been in dialysis for 2 years now. You do get used to it but it's not easy. I have a long history in our family with kidney disease and diabetes so I understand what you are dealing with. I'll be keeping you in my prayers!

Thanks everybody. I just talked to Mom again, and Daddy's planting stuff in the garden as we speak. He told her he would probably not do anything, he'd rather be able to do what he wanted while he could. With all his problems, I don't really know that I blame him. The dr. said he would probably have 2 years if he did nothing.......... We'll know more after the 15th!

Sorry I didn't say this earlier.

There were 2 or 3 days on our recent trip that we decided in the afternoon that we would like to do a TS meal for dinner that evening. We just went to the concierge at PoP and asked him to see if any of the restaurants anywhere had any tables that we could book... It worked each time we did it... you just have to be flexable. If fact, it worked out really well because one night we ended up with an ADR at Saana (akL) and it was wonderful!...one of my favourite meals of the trip!

Hey, whats the deal with the AC? I heard someone say guests could not control it, like in other Disney hotels. Personally, I like to have a cold room. So whats going on with that? Did I hear correctly?

We have stayed in the 50s, 60s, and 70s sections of Pop and have never had a problem with any of the thermostats. We have always been able to set the temperature to whatever we want and it is the same temp when we return to the room in the afternoon or evening. Maybe we've just been lucky as it sounds like others have had different experiences.

For those that have shipped a box down to POP, how long in advance did you ship it? And where do I go to retrieve it and the fridge from the fridge swap? I am correct that there are no bell services, so I need to be prepared to take it up myself?

I'll be interested to see if they need the note. I will still be breastfeeding DS when we go on our next trip. It would be nice to have some pumped milk so I could have a drink or two at dinner. Please let me know when you return.

I know what you really meant, but I laughed out loud  when I read this!!!

Hi all- I am just back from 6 days at Pop. .

The down side is my little one got croup and cried and coughed the whole time. Sorry to the neighbors that heard us all night long! Also sorry I ran the tub for steam at 3 AM!! I had read on here about the urgent care so we made a trip. Very handy if you need it. They come pick you up in a van and they have car seats. Took my insurance and drove us back to the resort.

All in all, a good trip and a good resort to stay in. Hopefully next time I will get to leave the room. :)

Oh, the poor dear! It's like colic cry, it is what it is, it's not a child misbehaving or people being a nuisance. I bring earplugs when I travel just in case (not in case of babies crying, just loud noise in general)-- and if I were next to you, and had put them in, I would not have been aware of a child crying at all!

So, no worries if it were me! I only wish it was! I am so ready for Florida now...as I type it, it's 9 degrees C... thats 48F! It will get warmer, but not until I'm at work for the day, and by the time I'm off it will be cooler again...

Glad it was a good trip apart from that tho'! And I hope baby is well!

Hi Fellow Dis Members,

I just wanted to give you a heads up on the missing Coke Slushies. I wrote a letter to DW asking the question & got a very classy response. It does indeed look like our beloved Slushies are no more. Kuddos to DW though for their continued grace in dealing with customers inquiries. Here's my original email (names removed of course) & their response two weeks (ish) later.

Dear Disney,

My family & I are soooooo excited to stay at POP in September (we booked
bounce back!!) & though we've stayed at Coronado, Port Orleans & ASMusic
in the past, this will be our first time at this particular hotel. Part
of the reason we choose this hotel was because my pre-teen boys had
heard that the food court had frozen coke slushies, their favorite
drinks at Disney!! So, imagine their disappointment when they have
recently learned that the machines has been removed....AAAAggggghhhhh!!!
Please, please Dear Disney, tell us please that they are ONLY out to be
repaired & will be returned by September 10...the first day we land in
sunny Florida from cold, cold Canada, dying for a refreshing Coke
Slushie....please!! Please sprinkle some Disney magic!!

Sincerely,

Erin ****** (mother to very sad boys, **** & ******...boo-hoo)

Dear Ms. ******,

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World® Resort.

From time to time, we make adjustments to our food and beverage
offerings based on operational considerations including consistency with
similar locations across our property. As a result, the Frozen Coke
beverage at Disney's Pop Century Resort was discontinued. Everything
Pop Shopping & Dining continues to offer a variety of Coca-Cola products
for your enjoyment. Frozen Cokes are available at a several locations
in the theme parks and at Goofy's Candy Co. at Downtown Disney
Marketplace. When we receive comments from Guests, such as yours, they
are shared with various areas of our organization. You may be assured
that your observations have been shared and taken seriously.

Ms. ******, thank you again for taking the time to share your honest
and constructive feedback. We hope to have future opportunities to
entertain you at our Resort.

Sincerely,

I would love an answer to this question too, thanks!
