The GROOVIER New Pop Century FAQ Thread Chapter 2! ~ Post #1 is a must see!

These suggestions may sound odd, but one perspective is to get down low and look up at the icons. Those pictures can be very cool. Also, go up in the buildings to the 3rd or 4th floor to get a really good view of whatever it is you want to photograph. I also enjoyed some of my pics that I took while on Generation Gap Bridge at night. Then needless to say, make sure you walk around the grounds to capture icons like Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head.

Have a groovy time!! :hippie:

Try playing with your perspective. If you have your subject stand closer to you with an icon in the background, you can make it seem like the subject is larger.

I read the FAQ I didn't see a mention on which is the best exit off 582 or whatever the tollway is to get to Pop. I know you can take more than one exit to get on property and then find your way to your resort. But it seems like I remember certain exits being better for different resorts.

Thanks

we took ME last year, so I don't even know the roads names anymore.
The year before we came from Sanford and I jsut mapquested it, but then there was construction and we got detoured in some not so nice areas. LOL! If you see signs for DTD. then you are close. Thats where we ended up going in by when we kind of got lost with our Detour and then we were really close.

I heard Pop was filling up very quickly for January. My travel agent said there was no rooms left almost the week we are there Jan 18-25. Should be busy!

Thanks for the suggestions. I can't wait to get there and walk around the resort. Lady and Tramp and Jungle Book are my 2 favorite Disney movies so they're gonna be first on the picture taking list.

so excited, just booked POP again for Spring Break March 14-21!

After reading this thread (haven't been on since before our June Disneymoon) again I feel bad for not walking around the resort. We were in the 60s, I think our building was the Tramp building.... and when we got back to the hotel at night we were SOOOOOOO tired we didn't see the bridge or walk to the 80s/90s sections :(

This trip I got 8 day tickets instead of 7. I'm hoping on our last day to get a late flight. In June our last day we had to get up around 7 am to leave and go home. It was SO depressing! Did anyone else do this? Will POP hold our carryons while we go to the parks during our last day after check out?

Yep they will hold onto any luggage you bring, have a great time we will be there the 24th of march trough the 4th of april.:goodvibes

That's a great idea. I'm going to remember that for next year. :thumbsup2

Kudos to Buckeye Gal for a job well done. Our family will be at the POP in January and have found all your info very helpful! Thank you!

You are welcome! I assure you most everyone on this board has contributed to the content one way or another!

Thanks to the $500 gift card pin code, will be at POP for Flower & Garden!

My best friend received the pin code, so we decided to do a girls only trip. :)

Good code for us, since neither of us could get away longer. POP makes it an affordable getaway even during this terrible economy. ::yes::

Now must find an affordable airfare!

Follow the signs to Caribbean Beach, as the signs for Pop don't happen until you are almost there. When you see the turn for Caribbean Beach, go past it and turn left onto Victory Way, then left onto Pop Century Drive. We paid two 75 cent tolls.

Returned from our 9 night trip to Pop last Sunday. We had two rooms, requested and got connecting. Asked for 50's, got 60's lake view. Asked for 1st floor, got 4th floor. Asked for king room/doubles, got 2 doubles. The connecting request was the most important part, and all the rest worked out fine, except maybe DH with the full size bed. We were in room 4444, and 4445. If you went to the end of the outside hall to the right of the rooms you had a very good view of Illuminations fireworks. I watched the beginning of it one night, and you could see more then I expected to.
We parked in the front of the resort (check-in parking) as the check-in castmember advised us, and that worked out really well. We got refillable mugs, and we could go fill them on the way to the van, then when we came back we would wash them in the food court, and refill them before we went to the rooms(kids and I usually got blue Icee, unless the machines were down). We used our 20% off with DDE/Wonderland card and got the mugs and all our food court food with the discount. (It more then paid for itself this trip, between Pop's food court and the table service meals we had.) Never really found real food that I liked enough to order twice at the food court, but we didn't eat much there. I tried the Shrimp-lo-mein, and thought it was a little spicy for my tastes, liked it much better at Yak and Yeti's counterservice. (although I really didn't like Y&Y's chicken fried rice) Pop also didn't have any duck sauce for it, which may have took away some heat. I tried the greek flatbread, which was ok, and had the special shrimp flatbread (again a little spicy, almost like they were trying to cover for lower quality ingredients), and had the Cuban special flatbread which was pretty good. My oldest and I shared a kids chicken nuggets as a snack one day/ was not great, but kids would be ok with it. Different chicken then the regular strip like nuggets they have for normal adult meals now. For breakfast the kids had french toast they liked, and I had choc chip pancakes/kids, mine seemed like it had sat there for a while, but I'm not a big breakfast eater. Most days I had cereal in the room or had a Choc chip Crescent. (See a chocolate theme here?)
The rooms were a little small with the crib in it, but we don't spend much time in there anyway. The biggest problem we had with Pop was the beds. They did have the new matresses, but the one near the door in our room already seemed to have seen better days, almost seemed like a refurb mattress or something. It pulled you to the center like when I used to visit my grandma's as a kid, and she kept her matress for 20+ years and then passed them down through the guest bedrooms after that. Anyway, we went to the other one, and it was better, but DH had a real problem with it being a full. That was the first time it bothered him. We haven't stayed where they have full size beds for about 4 years, and since then I probably put on about 25-30 pounds. Don't know if that was the difference or not.

Pros - I really liked how quickly you could get to the food court, and the pools. The price was great/got the fall deal. Housekeeping was pretty good, and we had a small towel animal in each room the first night and got one more in one room during our stay and three more in the other. Dad came early, and wasn't on the package, we had no problems with that. (funny story, I called him from NJ while driving to the airport. He was sleeping to rest up for a very early departure from the Columbia, SC area, well about 30 minutes later he calls me back and says he left early, and should be there about an hour after we are. With a flight delay we got in almost an hour after him.) They let him in, after he gave our name, this was around midnight, and he waited in the lobby for us. I enjoyed the landscaping, and liked the architecture more then I expected. Enjoyed the icees. Liked that they take the Wonerland/DDE discount in the food court (all the values do, and FQ I believe) No Bedbugs I could find. All the cast members we met were fine. We were able to take our 1 day 1 park tickets off our room keys so that we didn't have any problems identifying them later.(we have AP's)

Cons-The fact that it is not far to anything also made it seem more crowded. Dad had a ECV and that didn't fit well in the room. Made it a real tight fit to get to the door. (We did not request HC because he was in the room with the kids and there aren't to many Doubles that are HC, and then needing Connecting, plus he wasn't even on the original package.) Also didn't like going through the store or tables to get the the food court area. Could get very crowded at times, esp. with the stroller and or dad's ECV. Full size beds, and weren't crazy about the mattresses even though new. Don't remember any problems with this in the past, but that could also have to do with age and size. Just remembered another one and figured I would add it on. Hated the smoking section just as you left the back of the main building. It was very hard to avoid, and they seemed to spread out quite a bit.

I think we would go back, depends on how important bigger beds are to DH. With two rooms we could sleep in seperate beds, but that just doesn't seem right to me. With the discounts lately it seems the moderates are twice the price of the values, and I have a hard time justifying the difference, when I would prefer 2 rooms. Thinking of going back the week before Easter, and having a hard time deciding what to do room wise. This is an extra trip, as we are going with a group next August, and would not want to spend to much, If we do Pop I think we would do two rooms again, in a moderate or deluxe we would do one. CSR is the only Mod with Queens, but it only has one sink, which would be very hard with my 15 year old. If I could get a guar of Connecting King/Doubles I would probably go with pop again, but since I can't I have to put my thinking cap on.

You lucky dog you. I know someone else who got a free dining code for the beginning of next year too. Sadly, I never get codes so I'm stuck with the GP offers. I guess I am just happy to get an offer for less than rack rate. ;)

So when are you going? Flower and Garden show is so pretty.

In 28 HOURS I'll be boarding a plane for my 2 1/2 hour flight with my newbie princess  . I should be asleep right now, but the aticipation is keeping me awake. It's like being a kid on Xmas eve and not being able to fall asleep:rotfl: .I'm a little bit of a Polynesian snob.:cool2: But, it's been so long since I've last seen The World, that I was willing to rest my head at any resort that could book me on such short notice. I, admittedly, knew nothing about Pop and was a little apprehensive. BUT, you kind disers have shown me that I have so much to look forward to at Pop and I know that I'm gonna feel at home there. Thanks everyone! :goodvibes . I'll try to have a LGMH visible on me and hope that you'll say hello should you see me.

Oh have a fabulous time!!!!

When I stayed at Pop in September, made a point to go over to the the Poly twice. One was a night when I had been at MK that closed early that day. I went over there to Tambu Lounge as I was craving their sticky honey-ginger chicken wings with the tangy mustard drizzle (mouth is watering now!). The second time I went was on my last day. I HAD to try the Tonga Toast for breakfast at Kona Cafe for which I had heard so many rave reviews. That was also a chance to walk around the grounds and take gorgeous pictures, too. So if you're going to miss staying there, maybe a short trip or two will make you less "homesick".

Regardless, I found Pop really is a fun place. Moreover, you'll be experiencing the week through the eyes of your newbie princess. That is priceless!

Just got back from Pop last night and wanted to pass this info on to anyone who is going there this week.

I've got a flyer that says Guest Update. It says there will be resurfacing of the Guest Check-in Parking Lot and the 90's Parking lot will be taking place from Wed, Nov. 19 to Friday Nov. 21.

They will be cordoning off certain portions of the parking lots beginning Sunday, Nov. 16th.

I just got back last night from our Mother/Daughter MVMCP trip. We stayed Nov. 13 till Nov. 16th and it was just the 2 of us. We stayed using the AL/GA discount code. We have never stayed at Pop before.

I loved Magical Express. We got checked in ME and were on the bus within 30 minutes of getting off the plane. Using ME was a first for me too.

I loved the theming of Pop. The lobby was fun to see. We had a preferred room and I requested building 3 in the 50's section. We got it and had a corner room near the lake. I'd step outside in the morning and you could see the classical section building. We were on the first floor. It was a great location for us once we figured out how to get there. :rotfl: That first night, we had a devil of a time finding the room. I knew Pop was big but Wow.

The beds in the room were new and fairly hard. Because they were hard I did have trouble sleeping and woke up every morning with a backache. That wasn't very pleasant. It was nice to have my own bed though. Usually DD and I share a bed with DS and DH sharing the other.

You could hear everything through the walls - people talking, their TV's going, them going to the bathroom - I hated that part - then the normal turbo toilets and showers going. I did close the bathroom door at night but there was the full length mirror on the back that ended up being an issue for DD at night. The first night she got up in the middle of the night, saw her reflection when she went to open the door and freaked out because she didn't realize the mirror was there.

I loved the store - Everything Pop. The night we flew in, we explored the resort a bit before going to bed and checked out the store. It was bright and colorful which I adored and had a great selection of merchandise. The CM's working there were fast when checking out - no long lines at this store.

The food court - I didn't like having to either weave through the store or tables in the court to get to it. It was also always crowded when we went in for breakfast although I know that was partly our fault since DD9 wouldn't get out of bed early. The food was so-so. And could the folks who made the food go any slower? My gosh, I could cook it myself faster.

We stuck with getting the Adult Breakfast platter and an extra order of bacon with fruit. DD9 would eat my sausage and biscuit and the extra bacon and we'd split the fruit, I'd eat the eggs, potatoes and the bacon on my platter. It worked well. DD9 doesn't like waffles and refused to try the pancakes.

I liked getting the discount with my TIW card. At least we got a discount on the so-so food.

The one time we had lunch there was horrible - there was no one in the place and they kept messing up our order. After 20 minutes of that, I was really steamed and let them know it. Grrrrr. They finally got the order right (just 2 hamburgers - no cheese-no bacon - just 2 stinking hamburgers - the guy kept putting stuff on top of them) We didn't eat there for any other meal other than breakfast after that. And if I wasn't so hungry first thing in the morning, I'd have gone somewhere else for breakfast too.

After getting our food, it was awful to get through the running kids, folks clogging the drink stations and using the microwaves to stand around until someone would finally take pity on us and let us have their table when they left. While waiting, I'd usually have a near miss or two of having the tray dumped out of my hands onto the floor.

The pools were great. DD9 loved playing in the main pool and we squeezed pool time in twice.

The bus service was fine. I did like the fact that at night near closing for the Magic Kingdom there were 2 bus stops for Pop. But they sure needed them, there were so many people who stayed there. We only went to DHS and MK since the trip was so short. We were going to go to Epcot on Sunday since we had 5 hours once we got up and did RAC before we had to be on ME but DD changed her mind and didn't want to go.

DD loved the arcade. There were plenty of games to keep her going through money for an hour and a half. :rotfl:

So overall, the resort was fine but the food service area not so much. I don't think DH would like the resort and we'd all be squished in the room so I doubt this would be a resort we'd stay at as a family. Since the beds were a problem for me I don't think I'll stay there again on a solo trip. But it was fun to try out.

We have finally decided we are going back to Disney next April and staying at POP. :dance3: My sister is getting married in St Augustine Fl and we are going to be there for 5 days and then we will drive down to Disney for 4 days. We wouldlove to go longer, but Dh cannot take any more time off work. So a 9 day vacation is what it is....wooohoo
I am so exictied reading through all the info on this threaad. Thanks so much for putting all this great information together!!! :worship:
