The Good, The Bad, & the Nuts! ...ANYONE GOING MAY 8-15?

I know what you mean about Soarin'. It is a fun ride and has neat effects but I don't really get why it is SO loved. Everybody is different though, for instance, my mom LOVES Soarin'.

I keep thinking the crazy lines will die down eventually - but they sure don't seem to.

thanks for the info, i really hope they do something again, maybe another brick thing by animal kingdom or something.
:confused3

Yeah, it would be nice if they had something at each of the parks eventually. Veering slightly off topic, my brother bought my youngest son a brick at Wrigley Field a few years ago...he loves it!

I'm sorry for all of the difficulty you have in getting around the parks. Too often those of us who don't have those difficulties only see it from our point of view, which is "those durn scooters are making it longer for my bus to pull out". So, thanks for reminding me. I sincerely hope you get a kidney someday and become mobile again.

Sorry about the car. Sounds like it will work out okay though since the driver stopped and provided insurance info.

ohhh....so that's what a ninja poster is!! :lmao:

I know exactly how you feel about "those durn scooters" :confused3 I feel the same way.....thats why I prefer the Epcot resorts - so I can avoid the buses as much as possible.

I hope receiving a kidney allows me good moblity again. A contributing factor is that I also have congenital hip displasia - I don't have a complete hip socket on the left side, so I have always walked with a noticeable limp. I think the added weight and location of the dialysis solution has thrown me off balance and just makes an uncomfortable walking situation even worse. Someday - after the new kidney - I will work on replacing other parts - like a new hip. :thumbsup2 Maybe eventually I will be completely rebuilt.....like the Bionic Woman!:rotfl:

The car seems to be falling in place. I heard from their insurance agent today and forwarded him the pictures, then I called the autobody we deal with. As soon as the roads are cleared off again I will take it up there for an estimate. It doesn't look like it should he a lengthy "fix".

cant did look into that in the past, but im not sure why she did not do it for me?

might have been to pricey for her at the time.

Could be - I don't remember how much it was, but that Christmas Bret bought all the boys "big" gifts. He got Sean a life size, "working" light saber, Ryne a personalized WWE championship belt, and Mark the brick. The cool thing about the brick, is along with the one that goes into the sidewalk, they send you a duplicate that you can put on display. Mark has that one in his room. :thumbsup2

My husband and his buddy are on their annual "Vegas" trip. It started out as a trip out to the CES show, and evolved into something else. This year they flew out for the show and then are going to spend about a week roadtripping through Arizona. The last two nights they have been staying in Tucson. Their plan was to visit "Old Tucson" where they have Old West shows and stuff. But apparently that is only open Thurs - Mon, so their plans changed a little. The visited an Air and Space museum out there yesterday and then wandered around town. During their wanders they came across this....

the site of the tragic shooting at the Safeway. They said there was quite a large area still taped off, and even on Tuesday night there were FBI and police still working the area. He said they must work through the night because there were big heaters and lights on poles warming and lighting up the area. They went in to a Walgreens that is next door and spoke the cashier. She said "Thank God" she wasn't working that day, and that most of the "regulars" haven't been in since then. While they were there (not in the Walgreens, but outside taking pictures) a young guy came in and asked DH and his friend if they knew any good restaurants around there. They told them that they weren't from around there, but that the police (some were just "guarding the perimeter" and not actually investigating) could probably help him. He looked around saw all the commotion and asked what had happened. They guys told him that this was where the congresswoman had been shot and the others killed. This guy must not own a radio :confused3 because he hadn't heard a thing about it. But he decided maybe he would go somewhere else to find something to eat.

These pictures were just sent from his phone. They took more on their cameras, he said the Fox news lady was doing a report while they were there and when he called me later that night he saw the same reporter on TV - only by then she had put a coat on, so she must have been there for awhile longer after they had left.

I'd appreciate everyones thoughts and prayers for my daughter-in-law. Her and my stepson live in Virginia beach, va. She is originally from the Waukegan (great lakes) area. She got a call today that her mother had passed away. She has been Sick with one thing and another for years, shelly had come back a couple years ago to be with her when she wasn't doing well. So, while she has been in bad shape for quite awhile, the call was still unexpected. Her mother had just had her 72d birthday a couple weeks ago and would have celebrated her 53d anniversary on new years day. Shelly is flying home tomorrow, she's got 3 brothers and 3 sisters....some still live in the area, the others are scattered around the country.Right now she's having a hard time because she is so far away. Hopefully once she's home with her family she will do better. Your thoughts and prayers are welcomed.
Tanya, sorry I missed this while I was gone! Thoughts and prayers sent for your DIL and the rest of the family!

So very far behind on all the updates. Finally all caught up on yours! Loved all the pictures of AK. We got a new zoom lens for Christmas, so I saw quite a few pictures in your update that looked very much like ones I downloaded from my camera. And I thought I took a lot of pictures on the trip!

Great set of mugs you have there! Saw a lot of the vinylmation characters on our trip, but haven't gotten into that!

No problem promoting your latest updates on my TR! I think everyone is behind, but they are missing a whole lot of great pics and updates when they don't make it over here, for sure! Glad you reminded us all and I made it back over to check things out. :thumbsup2

Hoping you will get that new kidney soon and be back on your feet Ms. Bionic Woman!!! :rotfl:

Hi Tanya! Just found you and will have to catch up. I'm sorry for the struggles with your kidney and hip...that must be a struggle, and I hope that you will be able to overcome them soon! :goodvibes

Thank you. She is back home now, still missing her mom, of course, but seemed somewhat cheered the other day when she looked out the window and saw a cardinal in her tree. Her mother loved/collected cardinals and Shelly said she felt that it was a sign.

He does get a little carried away...:rolleyes1 When I get to the Magic Kingdom pics I have some good ones that show how good of a zoom he has. He took some of the Castle show that was going on with the zoom, and then at the normal range so you can see how far away he was. It made me appreciate the zoom.

Thanks....the Vinylmations will figure even more prominently later in the trip....

ooh - can I take your quote around to other TR's....kinda like authors who are asked for quotes on novels to give it some buzz??

Hoping you will get that new kidney soon and be back on your feet Ms. Bionic Woman!!! :rotfl:

Thanks!

I hope so too... Although, really I am used to things the way they are. While I go on about it on the TR, it's not intended to be "poor me"....it's more to let ya' all know where I am coming from. I know when I read others reports I "see" it as if "I" am the one experiencing the trip - when somebody reports going jogging, running a marathon, or some other things I can't put myself "in" that sitution easily. So when I tell my stories I guess I throw that in there to let people know that I am not moving along at an able-bodied 44 year-old clip, but that I am rolling along trying to keep from "clipping" the people around me. ;) And seriously, I am very thankful that I am able to go and enjoy the parks as much as we do - I know after my last "walking" trip I really was in no hurry to come back again - with the scooter - even with the hassles that come with it - just having it allows me to do soooo much more and enjoy so much more!

Oh and :welcome: pull up a chair and stay awhile!

I thought you wanted to BOOST your readership??? :confused3 You sure using ME to try and do that is a wise decision???? :rolleyes1 ;)

Hmmmmm....let me think about that one again....;) What is that they say - no publicity is bad publicity????

Initial sketchy plans.

Tues - Right now it's penciled in as another Epcot day. We have reservations for Biergarten that evening, so we will be there in the evening for sure.

The Eat to the Beat performers at Epcot are Jon Secada (Sun), Hanson (Mon-Tues), Rick Springfield (Wed Thurs) and Big Bad VooDoo Daddy (Fri - we'll be gone already). The only one I have a half an interest in is Rick Springfield, but I don't know if we will be over there either of those nights. It's not a priority.

After getting a glimpse of our future in the “big ball” we headed back towards World Showcase. But we didn’t go straight back we cut through the middle and went over towards the living Seas, Land & Imagination side. Stopping to do a little paparazzi pic of these cute fellows

DSC_0055.jpg

I don’t think we took in any of the attractions on that side, so I’m not totally sure why we went that way and didn’t just go straight out the middle, but this route allowed some stops for camera-time.

About this time Danny decided he was hungry for a piece of fudge. The only time we ever have fudge is at Christmas time – I have never known him to be hungry for fudge before. :confused3 I told him I was unaware of anyplace in Epcot that had any – unless the new place in Germany did – but it was a carmel shop, so I wasn’t sure if it would or not. So on our journey around the World, we were on the look-out for some fudge.

Very nice – but if you read the sign – they are promoting the release of Beauty and the Beast on a Diamond edition Blu Ray combo pack. I would have enjoyed the topiaries much more of they weren’t trying to hawk DVDs. :sad2:

While touring Japan the drummers came out

DSC_0130.jpg

This guy had funny expressions on his face throughout the performance :rotfl:

DSC_0131.jpg

It was funny because he was the only man, and the two women just drummed away like robots, very little expression, and he was over there looking like it was all he could do to keep going. At one point he lost one of his drum sticks, but he kept the rhythm going with the one he still had, reached around behind him and pulled another one out of the back of his waistband and kept on going.

DSC_0132.jpg

DSC_0133.jpg

We stayed for their whole performance before continuing our tour....

DSC_0135.jpg

As we got to America, the drum and Fifers came out

DSC_0139.jpg

We did not stay for their whole performance. I usually stop and watch them whenever I happen across them. But he was still on a search for fudge, and these were not the “regular” guys that I am used to seeing. I just love the main guy that I usually see – would love to know his story. He’s an older guy and is the only one that does any talking – I would bet that he is retired military of some sort….but he wasn’t in this group and we headed on.

and the funniest hat I’ve seen. :rotfl2: I had to go in search of this after seeing it on KatMark’s TR

And they have fudge! Over at the Carmel shop they had some fudge that had a layer of carmel in the middle.

We took a break over along the water front and shared a piece of super rich, carmel and chocolatey yumminess!

DSC_0147.jpg

No picture of the fudge…but I give it two thumbs up :thumbsup2:thumbsup2– would give it more if I had more thumbs. But it was very rich, so I am glad we shared one piece instead of each of us getting one. It was about 3:00 at this point. On our way around the world we stopped at the African outpost and got a diet coke.

While he was in line I noticed a little hidden gem. Of course I have no pictures of it…:rolleyes1. But at the outpost in the “waiting” area – it’s not really a seating area because there are no seats, but there are old coke machines and coolers and stuff lying around. I never paid any attention to them before – I figured they were just there as atmosphere to fill in the empty spaces. But at Disney nothing is “just there”. If you try to open them they make sounds, some of them spray a mist of water. They are a cute little diversion.

In Norway, while he was taking photos, I was in the courtyard near the shop and noticed the CMs across the way having some fun

DSC_0186.jpg

They were playing a London Bridge type of game at first, then they were doing some tug of war – I don’t see the rope in the last picture so maybe they had already lost. Danny may have taken some video in between and that could be why there is no picture of that. As much video as he takes – we never actually watch any of it. Maybe someday…..:confused3

We completed our World Tour

DSC_0188.jpg

Throughout our tour we had been talking about supper. We had reservations at 6:40 at Biergarten. Neither of us was really hungry. We reversed our tour and went back through the countries – camera free. We stopped at Germany again and looked the menu over. We decided that for the price, we weren’t really sure that is what we wanted. I am not a big meat eater so would have veered more to the salads and desserts, he wasn’t really in the mood for that type of food – so we cancelled our ADRs and headed back towards our resort.

On our way back through the International Gateway we ran in to the funniest girl

DSC_0189.jpg

She had just finished meeting with her fans and was being led backstage. Danny was ahead of her, and didn’t see her at first, so I said something to him and he stopped and took that picture. I wound up ahead of them, but turned to look over my shoulder and noticed them, and some other guests coming up behind us, so I veered off to the left (remember – I'm on my scooter) to leave them a bigger space in the middle of the walkway. Well, apparently when I looked over my shoulder I turned the wheel to the right, and then I turned back to the left to get out of the way...

Alice noticed and started chattering about going in a “serpentine” manner, and that she likes to walk serpentine too, but that sometimes she starts going serpentine and winds up twirling…. She chattered, and twirled the whole way – and once she was behind the “secret gate” you could still hear her chattering away! :lmao: Her handler was laughing, and there was an older gentleman CM standing outside the door of the shop that’s right by “secret gate” and he was laughing and told us that that Alice is sure a silly girl, isn’t she. It was a fun little walk – and you could tell that she really enjoyed her role. Either that – or that was the real Alice! :thumbsup2

After leaving Epcot, we decided to just hang around our little area. We had a light supper at Beaches and Cream. Danny had, what he says, is the best burgers at Disney. I wasn’t in a “burger mood”. There was an older lady and her son sitting at the table closest to the door when we came in. What she was eating looked yummy. So when our waitress came I asked her what the woman by the door was having. She peeked over there and said it was the chicken noodle soup. So that is what I ordered

soup.jpg

This isn’t my picture – put look how thick and yummy that looks – nothing like Campbells!

Supper was at 6 PM

By 6:30 we were back at the Boardwalk gift shop where we picked up a couple more Vinylmations :rolleyes1:, some more diet cokes, and chocolate milk for the room, and a package of microwave popcorn. After we took that up to the room we went over to the Community Hall.

This is where our room location turned out to be a good thing. I was able to leave the scooter in the room, we were just a few doors from the end of the hall where we could take the stairs down and go outside and right across to the pool and community room. We went and looked through the DVDs and got Finding Neverland. We looked around the Hall and noticed the video games and such and debated whether to tell Mark about them for fear that he might never leave if he knew they were there next time we’re here. Then we went back to the room for the evening.

I threw some more clothes in the laundry, straightened up the kitchen, getting the coffee pot ready for the next morning. He popped the popcorn, loaded the pictures off the cameras onto the computer and we sat there and watched Johnny Depp :lovestruc. After our movie he went down to the hot tub, and I got hooked up and went to bed and read for awhile. I have to be hooked up for at least 8 hours and we had breakfast reservations the next morning.

Pretty quiet, simple day – didn’t go on a lot of the attractions, but it was still enjoyable in it’s way. On our “parent only” trips we don’t worry too much about running and doing – it is planned to be a slower pace. We still consider these “bonus” trips since we used to only do a once a year family trip – so anything we do is just a bonus and we don’t feel bad about skipping anything.

Oh something I forgot to mention on our trip around the world. Tonight (and the night before) Hanson was playing at the Eat to the Beat Concerts. I think their first set was at 5:30. When we were on our way through (before 3:00) there were already girls lined up. They were mostly wearing Hanson t shirts, and it was all younger girls. At the time, I thought it was kinda cute – kinda silly – I didn’t realize Hanson still had a following. But it was nothing like what I saw a couple days later…..:rolleyes1

my favorite pics of all the artsy ones has to be the shouting water fountain picture, i like how the water at the top looks, way to capture it.

:thumbsup2

well of course that was the real alice, all of the characters are real.
:goodvibes
