The Good, The Bad, & the Nuts! ...ANYONE GOING MAY 8-15?

Hey Tanya~~~

I was wondering where you had gone... lo and behold, you had a bit of a setback. I am so glad they found out where all the fluid was coming from and what was going on! YOWZA! Sounds like the docs are doing on top of it, and you are well at recovering.

Came home again on Sunday. They sent me home with the bladder catheter still in:headache:. I'm not thrilled with it, but I understand the reasoning. They explained that the bladder is stretchy, but that the tubes that they had to repair and connect to the bladder do not stretch and expand. So they want to let the bladder remain virtually empty while that repair heals.

Today I had follow up labs and an appt with the dr. All of my labs are better. My creatinine is 1.9 which is practically normal for a normal person. She has taken me off the phosphorus restriction and fluid intake restrictions. She says low sodium is still a good idea for everybody, but that I basically have no more restrictions other than good sense.

I don't have to take phoslo anymore, which I had to take before eating to help block any phosphorus in the foods. She is also taking me off lasix. She says the kidney is doing it's job :thumbsup2 and will remove excess fluids on it's own without the lasix.

I also don't have to track how much I drink or how much I output ;) I just need to track my weight. I have lost about 2 lbs a day the last few days. I'm still aboutb10-15 lbs more than before the surgeries. They pump you full of so many iv fluids. I am also on prednisone which she says holds on the fluid. That is slowly being weened down, so as that decreases I should lose more too.

I still have the catheter:guilty: but after labs on Friday I go over to their office and get it removed. :woohoo: I don't need an appt for that, they will just give me a nurse when I get there. Then they just want me to hang around town to make sure I get "going" again ok before I get all the way back home.

The even better news that she normally doesn't get to share is that since she had to open me back up again she got another peek at my new kidney and she uses many positive adjectives describing how healthy it looks. Very enthusiastic....not guarded optimism. So I've got that going for me! :)

So I am very thrilled today! It has been such a roller coaster couple of weeks I am beyond tickled that I am finally rolling onto some smooth tracks.

Now I am going to try to read some of you alls threads. I see from my subscribed threads that it looks like jordans thread may have been re-activated so I'm looking forward to seeing his progress as well as getting caught up on everything else that I've been missing. I am sure I would have had perfect scores on marvs trip report, and of course I wouldn't miss a Judy spotting...

Looking forward to getting back in the loop!

Tanya, this is ALL SUPER NEWS!!!! It sounds like things are progressing really well now and I am very happy for you.

Congrats on steady improvement, my little race horse friend!! At least it sounds like we can still put your new kidney into that category. ;) That's great the doctor is using such positive adjectives to descibe where things are headed, and I can't wait until that nasty cath can come out, and things are truly back to normal!:banana::banana:

sounds like you are on the right path, and we all know that you will continue to go down the right path to health.
:thumbsup2

Today was a wonderful day. Nurse Brenda is my favorite person in the world ....she removed that horrible catheter :cool1::cool1::cool1: that made all the difference in the world. It was so uncomfortable and awkward trying to do anything while lugging that around.

Labs still improving....and would you believe that now they want me to eat high phosphorous foods :lmao:

The bad news is that my husband has a bladder the size of a pea so we are both fighting for the bathroom all the time. He was pretty used to me not competing for it and now he has to share again. :rotfl:

I'm slowly getting caught up on my other threads.....it looks like the pixie dust has been flying all over the dis! Hopefully soon I will be able to get back on track with the tr. Right now I'm not using the laptop but am trying to keep up on the iPad. When I get back to the computer maybe I can do some more trip stuff.

And yet again I thank you all for the well wishes, prayers, pixie dust, encouragement, and friendship.:lovestruc:lovestruc:love::hug::hug:

I'm glad you were able to get the catheter removed. I know they can be uncomfortable.

Still praying for your full recovery!

Got my staples removed Monday. For the most part that was fairly painless. There were 17 of them, a couple pinched when he took them out, and then there was that one.....oh man! He said it was crooked, he tried and tried, then he got a different tool and tried again, then he said he would come back to that one. When he got all the others out he pinched, and dug and finally got it....but boy oh boy I wanted to kick him. As it was I was holding my breath, making funny faces, making a fist with one hand that was digging my fingernails into my palms....anything to get my mind off that. Turns out it was not only crooked but bent and he finally got it.

Labs are still good. AFter being on a phosphorus free diet for years, even taking phosphorus binders, I am now encouraged to eat foods high in phosphorus and have even been given a phosphorus supplement.

I still had a lot of fluid that I wasn't losing so they put me back on a low dose of lasix for awhile. It seems to be working - my hands feel less puffy. I also notice that I am not as short of breath the last couple days. I think between getting the staples out (which didn't really hurt when they were in - but they would sometimes get caught on my clothes and kinda pull), and getting a little more fluid off, it has helped.

They okayed me to drive last week, but I still haven't okayed myself to do it. I remember when I had the babies they said 6 weeks and its only been a month since the first surgery and not quite 3 weeks since the second one.

Right now for medication I am taking 16 pills in the morning, and 7 or 8 at night. Some of those are mulitples - I take 3 Prograf in the morning and 2 at night (antirejection) and 3 am and 3 pm of Myfortic (another antirejection) 2 1/2 prednisone (yes I am on steroids and have that bloated look!).....so I'm on like about 8 or 9 different pills, but I have to take several of some of them. By the time I get them and all the water it takes to get them down, I almost don't feel hungry anymore!

After a significant absence in which many “real life” events have occurred I am back at WDW (well, in virtual WDW circa Nov 2010)!

When I last was with you, we had just enjoyed a relaxing breakfast at Kona café. Although, looking at our receipts, it appears we checked in around 9:50 and paid around 10:15, so less than half an hour doesn’t sound leisurely and relaxing. At the time it felt like it, so I will go with that! Then we took a crowded monorail to the Magic Kingdom and I followed a very slow, very large woman down the ramp and finally got to the gates of the park.

Once through the turnstiles and into the park we saw that everything was all decorated for the holidays.

We could also see that the stage show was taking place in front of the castle. The next 4 pictures are taken from the same location – but Danny is playing with his lens

I took no notes, and we didn’t take many pictures. So what few pictures and receipts I have will have to be enough to tell the story.

After the castle show ended it appears as though we headed to Adventureland. Where dastardly pirates were recruiting innocent young children to join their crew.

I’ve seen this Pirate a couple times and he’s one of my favorite “sidekicks”

IMG_1187.jpg

Not my favorite “Jack” - he looked good, but sounded like he was just “phoning it in” . The very first one I saw we swore could have been Johnny Depp – haven’t seen him since.

From there we went to see the Pirates in action

DSC_0048.jpg

We didn’t see any of the new recruits on the ride so we moved on to a ride that my husband would just as soon skip. We hadn’t been on it for a few trips and I pulled rank and decided we shouldn’t skip it all the time. So it was time for a cruise…..

Our boat driver wasn’t the most original or convincing. But it’s nice to enjoy an old classic every once in awhile.

And speaking of old classics, it appears out next stop is Danny’s favorite

DSC_0095.jpg

DSC_0093.jpg

And as for other old classics – here is Mr. Toad in the Pet Cemetary outside of the Mansion.

Since I use the scooter we go through the line so far then get siphoned off and go in the exit. They have done it a few different ways. Sometimes they ask if I can walk short distances and they will go ahead and send us in the stretching room. This time there were several other scooters and wheelchairs so they took us all through the back way and loaded us away from the crowds.

According to the photo info, Haunted Mansion was at 12:30.

We left Haunted Mansion and cut through Fantasyland. The lines were all too long to wait in. But Mickey’s Philharmagic was just about to start so we hurried up in there. This is where a scooter can be a pain in the behind! One CM sent us down the back row, but once we got so far another CM said there were no more spots down there. I couldn’t turn around so I was trying to back up. By that time the lights were out. Well, the back wall isn’t flat. I was doing real well (for me) backing up in a straight line, but neither of the CMs or my husband bothered to tell me that there was a pole or something sticking out of the wall and BAM I backed right into it. :headache: I was fairly close to the entrance of the row and one of the CMs asked if I could walk and they took their tiny little flashlight and found us a couple seats in the theater. Of course Danny had to pout through the whole show because when things don’t go his way he turns into a 3 year old. :sad2: So what is typically a nice enjoyable show was not so much this time. Then when it was over we had to go back to the back row and rescue my scooter.

Then it was off to to Tomorrowland and yet another classic favorite

DSC_0097.jpg

We love this show. When Ryne was little and was absolutely terrified of everything (Captain – I believe you can relate to a child like this!) “The Man and the Dog” was about the only thing he would happily sit through. We have to see this every trip, sometimes we even have to sing along!

I wasn’t feeling 100% and hadn’t been most of the day. I think that Tonga Toast was just way too sweet to eat on an empty stomach. And frankly, we just weren’t feeling the Magic. Initially I had wanted to stay and watch the Main Street Electrical Parade because we hadn’t seen it in years, but we just weren’t feeling the Magic Kingdom love. Danny was feeling the Vinylmation love however, and we spent a lot of time in shops that sell the cute little hunks of plastic.

I think we rode Space Mountain, which I think the way my stomach was feeling was probably not the smartest idea. I know we spent considerable time in the Space Mountain gift shop looking at the Vinylmations. Danny was still on a quest for the 2nd DVC exclusive Vinylmation. On our first night we had stopped at the gift shop/grocery store at the Boardwalk and asked about the DVC exclusive. The CM said she had one of them, but not the other. From that statement we assumed there were two different designs. Plus I had seen artwork online for 3 different ones, so we thought it was safe to assume there was another one out there. The gal at Space Mountain was unaware of any, but they don’t usually sell the exclusive ones.

From there we went to the gift shop that Stitch dumps into and tried again. This CM was beyond helpful. She made phone calls, and when that didn’t work, she ran over to the DVC tour person and asked them. I sat around in there forever waiting on her. When she came back she said they are only available at the DVC resorts or at D-Street on the West Side.

Thwarted in our Vinylmation search we went to Cosmic Rays for a late lunch. I was thrilled to see the Cheesesteak was back on the menu….until I got it. The one I used to know and love was yummy. It had melted cheese and green peppers. This was a pile of meat with a ladle of cheese sauce poured over it. It was ok, but not what I had been looking forward to. I also got a chocolate milk which I gulped down first thinking it might help settle my stomach. Then a diet coke to go with the meal and “to go”.

While we were eating we discussed our options. Do we want to hang out here and wander aimlessly around or do we want to go Downtown. We hadn’t been yet this trip.

Downtown won…..but it won by way of Old Key West. Danny wanted to go there first and check out their gift shop. :rolleyes1

So after just a few hours of MK we headed out to the bus stop. The one place I was avoiding this trip. But it was the middle of the afternoon so we figured it wouldn’t be too bad. I hate loading the scoter on the buses. It’s the worst part of any trip. We get to the bus stop and an OKW bus is sitting there. We hustle up to it, and its an old bus with a lift. And she is parked so the back door is too close to the fences and stuff for me to get turned around and back into it. For once Danny takes pity on me and lets me get off, he puts it in freewheel and gets it turned around and loaded and rides up with it and gets it parked. I try to tell the driver that I can take the steps but she insists that I ride the lift up.

Once the scooter is tied down she tries to put the lift back into steps and it won’t work. My nightmare come true! She runs it up and down and tries all sorts of things and it just wont work. Some guy in the back asks if there is anything he can do – the driver was a short little gal and she was trying to kick at the bottom flap that wasn’t laying flat. He finally was able to help her get it and we were off.

At OKW we go in their gift shop. This is our original home resort, and until just a few years ago, the only resort we ever stayed at. We saw lots of nice shirts and things that we liked, but restrained ourselves. Then he moved in for the kill…..or rather he sent me over. I went to the counter closest to the exit and asked about the DVC exclusive Vinylmations. They had the same one we had. We told them we already had that one, but had heard there was a second one that we were looking for. Well, other than the OKW-themed CM there were some “suits” there too. They said there had only been one DVC themed one issued so far. That it was numbered “1” so that led to some confusion, but that was in case they released more in the future.

I hate to think how much time we wasted looking for that goofy little thing that doesn’t even exist.

Since boats are easier than buses we took the boat to Downtown Disney. And floated by the inspiration for the decorating in my bathroom

DSC_0099.jpg

We were still going to check out the mother lode of Vinylmations at this D-Street store! And holy cow! That place was full of them…..not only the ones the had for sale, but all the displays they had of them and the artwork they had made out of them. Danny was in Vinylmation heaven!:cloud9:

We left with 3 of them – well 4. Normally they are about 10 or so apiece. But when you buy exclusive ones they are higher. We got the two Annual Passholder exclusinves – one was Mr Toad, and the other was Orange Bird. Danny did not remember orange bird. When I was little Grandma had gone to Florida and brought me back a necklace of Orange Bird. And I remember commercials for orange juice that had Orange Bird in them. I didn’t realize until now that it was a Disney creation, and that there even used to be an Orange Bird character that would meet and greet in Adventureland over by the Citurs place. We also got some Combo pack according to the receipt. I don’t remember now what it was – I am thinking one of them was Fantasia Mickey, but I don’t know what came with it.

From there we went over to the World of Disney where we got some more decals and antenna toppers for the vehicles, looks like Danny got a Xmas Cd and I got the book about the windows on Main Street, and we got the new afghan throw. Now we have Mickey and Minnie by the fireplace (from 2009) on the couch and Mickey and Minnie out ice skating on the love seat.

We checked out of there at 6:38. We debated going back to Pleasure Island/West Side to catch the bus since we figured there would be fewer people there that early, or go on to the Marketplace stop so we could have a better chance at getting the “scooter seat”. Marketplace side won.

I think this was fairly uneventful. We had one trip where we sat at the bus stop forever and they finally called in a 100 year old man to drive us from the Marketplace to the other side only to get off and turn the bus over to someone else. But I don’t think that was on this trip.

I do know since we are the “Epcot area resorts” we were making multiple stops. We deicded to bail at the Swan and walk back to Boardwalk from there. We told the driver and while she was unhooking us another family asked us if you could walk to Boardwalk from Swan – we told them that yes you could and that was what we were going to do. They decided to get off also.

The path that we took, took us right through some private party that was set up on the sidewalk. There was no way to avoid it, so I’m sure whoever they were and whatever they were doing they were interrupted. I think it was some Insurance thing, and they weren’t having a program, it looked like a cocktail party. I still felt bad rolling through their festivities, but I didn’t set up the sidewalks.

The other family followed us back to the Boardwalk and thanked us. Danny ran in to the shop and got a couple more bottles of soda (at 7:42) and we called it a night.

Not a terribly exciting day.

The next day was his Golf Tournament and I was planning to do more Food & wine Festival, so an early night wasn’t so bad. I’m sure once we were in the room more laundry was done, and the dishwasher was probably either loaded or unloaded. Danny would have downloaded all the pictures – not htat there were very many this day and off to bed.

Ooo, Magic Kingdom Christmas pictures! Looks great! And that's quite the zoom on Danny's camera.

There's something comforting about seeing the back side of water, isn't there?

Thanks for the pictures! I hope you're doing well...

So we have less fluid, staples are gone, cleared to drive...sounds like progress to me! And my goodness, that's a lot of pills. I hope they work for you and not against each other!

Fortunately some of the pills are only temporary, but right now it is an intimidating pile.:scared1:

Old key west doesn't have a lot to do as an exploration resort. But as a place to stay it's great. It's quiet, but there are 3 pools, tennis, bikes, the community hall. When the kids were little we loved it. We mostly switched because with the scooter I prefer the epcot area resorts so I can skip the buses.

It's so great to have you posting agian, Tanya!! Sounds like things are improving. The hardest thing for me would have been not driving!

Lovely morning at MK! The decorations are lovely! The ride over to OKW, not so much. As was the Philharmagic time- not so much.

The not driving doesn't bother me as much as it would have a few years ago. The last year or two, it was like pulling teeth to get me to go anywhere on my own. Not because I didn't like to drive, but because I didn't like having to park and walk in....Danny has been dropping me off at the door lately. I do feel bad that every time I have labs or dr appts Danny has to take off work to drive me. Fortunately, he is technically retired, the job he has now he is listed as part time. He tries to work full time hours, but the whole point of this job was the flexibility. He didn't want to be committed to a 40 hour week and they are ok with it. He's also able to work from home so he gets a few more hours that way.

Yeah we weren't having good park mojo that day. We did enjoy a few things. But we also have the attitude on these "parent only" trips, that whatever rides and shows we do are bonuses since we have already had our family trip. So cutting out early wasn't too big of a deal.

Nice pictures Tanya! I like that Mickey that can close his eyes.

The Jack Sparrow guy looked pretty good, but it's too bad he didn't sound enough like the real deal.

I still need to visit OKW someday.

Great Update Tanya !!I loved your pix of the Castle !!! Most of all I liked your news about your recovery:hug:
