Culinary Tour part one- Boma
After having Tea at the Grand Floridian I hopped a taxi over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. How friggin gorgeous is this place btw?
Every time I see it I want to stay here more and more. I've heard bad to middling things about the bus service, but this is the kind of place where I could really hang out at the bar/lobby/resort and enjoy myself. I really didn't spend a lot of time at my "resort" this time (POP) because the social spaces didn't really speak to me. But I guess that's just the nice thing about staying at Disney, you can bar/lounge/resort hop all you want and at the end of the day go back to your value resort room and just sleep.
Am I the only one who wants to reenact the "Song Long, Farewell"! song every time they see an impressive staircase?
Thanks to the Dis
I learned that at 4PM (or 4:30PM) every day they do a culinary tour of the Boma and Jiko restaurants. At the same time of day they also do one at Sanaa, so I'll have to get to that at some point as well. I checked in around 3:30 at the Boma booth and said I was interested in the Boma/Jiko tour. They told me to just hang out/come back at 4 when the tour would start. I had heard that usually there were about 4-6 people on these tours forebode and since the lobby was full of nary a soul I scampered off to take some photos of the lovely resort.

When it was time for the tour I returned and there were, I did you not, 24 of us waiting for the tour.
It probably had something to do with it being free-dining and the looks on the CM's faces when they greeted us showed that this was not the usual experiance. I tried to get as many pics as possible with out the crowd. It was a little hard to hear the explanation of everything any ways so I sort of gave myself a self guided tour at Boma. It was easier to hear our guide in Jiko, due to the layout, but it was hard to tell what was going on during the Boma tour. Not that our CM's weren't giving it their all. Tauno and Janeke were awesome and really tried to take care of us all.
On with the pictures!
Boma Open Kitchen

Watermelon Rind salad and some type of curried pasta salad.
Slaw
Veggie Fruit Fruit! Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit!
Flat Bread and dip (hummus?)
Zebra Domes! Sweet slimy tastiness!
C is for Cookie, that's good enough for me!
The CM's told us a little bit about Boma and the food while they guided us along. I missed some of it, because it was hard to hear it all, but they pointed out that the restaurant is divided by African countries, the pillars are clay pots (go check my pics above, it's true!) and they took everyone down the food line to explain the buffet "pods".
We were able to try the mushroom soup on this tour. I have heard that normally you can try which ever one you want, but since there were so many of us we all got the mushroom. It was super tasty, but I would have totally prefered the mulligatawny if I was choosing. And we all got a zebra dome. Honestly handing out the spoons/bowls, soup, and zebra domes took up most of the time of the tour.
As we were getting ready to leave the drummers (bongo trio?) were setting up. They play as people are seated in the restaurant, and it's pretty cool. We then all headed over to Jiko for the second part of our tour, which I will continue in the next post...
