Thanks everyone for the warm fuzzies. I'm fever free, but at least I've managed to hold onto my hacking cough.

In the next post (up as soon as I type it!) we will return to our normally scheduled shenanigans.:goodvibes

I hope you get well soon - not for the updates, but because feeling lousy is always horrible!!

Get well soon! (The delay is nice for me...less I have to catch up on...stinks for you, that you're sick and all though!)

Oh no! Feel better soon!! :grouphug: I just got over a 10 day bought of something not quite the flu either but totally zapped me. I will be here waiting for your great reviews when you come back!! :flower3:

Hope you feel better soon!

Coming out of lurkdom to subscribe.

Does pap taste like grits? I love grits, but I'm not sure I could eat something called "pap." It sounds like what Oliver Twist wasn't allowed to have any more of. (Yes, that ends in a preposition but I am too lazy to rewrite the sentence.)

:thumbsup2

Great start!! Sign me up and keep the lovely pictures coming!!

I  Wall-E!!

Yep. Pap is pretty much grits. Grits in any language. You can also get them at Boma (hooray?).

I can't believe I missed the start of the review! :scared1:

I feel so ashamed. :sad1:

Hope you feel better soon!

Denise

Sorry for the delay in postings. I blame the cruise I went on, and the flu that I caught on the cruise. My battery's at around 80% now, so on with the posting!

After Wall*E and I had breakfast at the Crystal Palace, we spent the rest of the morning wandering around the Magic Kingdom. It was then that I made the single most adorable purchase ever:

M-I-C-K-E-Y W-A-L-L-E!
DSCN1392.jpg

Getting the ears to stay on was quite the project, and wasn't perfected for two days. Later in the week there was even some ear-tear-age and he had to go without it till superglue could be procured. But seriously, who knew they had hats in size 5/8?:confused3

King of the world!
DSCN1394.jpg

Into the early afternoon I was starting to feel peckish, and tired (red-eye and all that). We took a quick boat ride to the Grand Floridian for some relaxing tea. Our boat captain was Bruce and he informed us to keep all heads, arms, and Wall*E's in the boat.:rotfl2:

No, not yet Wall*E. That's later this week!
DSCN1401.jpg

So what is supposed to come to mind when you think of the Grand Floridian? Beauty, elegance, peace and quiet? How about massive re-flooring and construction noise? Truely the perfect accompaniment to a relaxing tea-time is the sound of powerdrills and mallets. During my whole stay (and I was at the GF more than a few times this trip) they were adding marble to the floor in the big lobby room. I felt bad for the couples trying to get wedding photos and crop out the construction mess.

I don't have a really nice photo of the Gardenview Tea Room from the outside due to the construction mess. I was able to get one later in the week, but I forget what day it was on so you'll just have to stay tuned to this report if you want to see it later.;)

Do you have a reservation?
DSCN1406.jpg

Our reservation was @ 2:10PM, but at 2PM when they opened up we were able to be seated. They had no window seats for us! They said they all had been reserved. All of them. At 2PM, when the place wasn't even full up.:sad2: And so began my week long experiance of being seated at the most terrible tables ever. I have seriously never had such bad table luck as I did on this trip. I can't imagine them shoving a couple at these two-tops, let alone leave a solo person at some crappy table with no view and bad lighting. My table here was right next to the swinging doorway to the "backstage" area.

If I looked straight out the view was nice and pleasant, I could see the whole restaurant. I just had to ignore all the servers rushing past me.
DSCN1423.jpg

and the the right all the serving trays:
DSCN1430.jpg

Somehow, despite being in the easily most un-ignorable seat in the whole place, nary a server glanced my way for 8 minutes. And then I was only aknowledged by my server name withheld so she could tell me she would be with me in a few minutes. I was the third person seated! I dunno, seemed kinda crazy to me. I understand that it's free-dining and what not, but the restaurant had only opened 10 minutes ago! And this is a non-dining plan place! I'm not a nit-picker, but in some ways this trip tried my patience.

Looking in these eyes, how can I stay angry?
DSCN1422.jpg

My server finally came over and asked if I was ready to order. No menu explanation, no "so sorry", no recommendations. I inquired if the Mad Hatter came in a teapot, because I want nothing to do with that press-pot business. She said it did, so I ordered the Mad Hatter, Tea Sandwiches, and the Scones. I did it all ala carte. If I had been hungrier (and less annoyed) I might have sprung for something bigger like the Grand Tea. I did have Jiko planned for the evening, along with the Boma/Jiko culinary tour (which I will be reviewing!) so I just got some little bites to tide me over.

Let there be tea!
DSCN1426.jpg

Everything is right with the world now.
DSCN1427.jpg

The Mad Hatter is described as; A blend of passion fruit, pomegranate, and vanilla for a clean and sweet finish. Perfect with decadent desserts and companions.

It was indeed very nice. I've always been a tea lover, but have in the past year given up on coffee, due to it's kidney-stone inducing tendencies, and have been 100% drinking tea. I usually brew iced tea at home from Teavana as well and I can't think of any beverage I drink more than tea, except for water. The Mad Hatter was pretty mild, and I don't add sweetner to my tea and found it to be plenty sweet. It went well with both the sandwiches and the scones.

Also, the cozy was adorable:

You don't get this with a press-pot.
DSCN1425.jpg

At this point my server started feeling bad about the crappy service I had already recieved. Either that or she was confused about my note and picture taking. She really started to step up the friendliness and I must say that the last part of my meal was great. She even described all of my sandwiches and kept asking me how I was doing. Perhaps she was just a bit off at the beginning of her shift? I dunno but I'm glad she got with the happy.

Sandwiches- my favorite food.
DSCN1424.jpg

left to right (then bottom):
Apple gorgonzola- alright. little sweet, it was a nice size. I wouldn't eat a full sandwich of it
Chicken salad- pretty good chicken salad. I've had better, but this was tasty
Shrimp salad- feh, not really "shrimpy" at all. very mayonnaise-y
Egg salad- passable
Watercress- refreshing! the way lawn should taste
Onion tart- the best thing on the plate to me. sweet num-num! I could have eaten half a dozen of these slimy things.:lovestruc

I know what you're thinking Sandwiches? Tea and Sandwiches? Where's the strawberries? Cakes? Swan shaped pastries? And for those of you new to these things I will let you know that I will always choose savory over sweet. But I will always choose dairy over savory. And always anything over melons, blech...

Here's your sweet side:
DSCN1428.jpg

Homemade raisin scone- very warm, soft and tasty, but very tiny
Jam Tart- alright, kinda store-bought
Devonshire cream- Oh, please sir, can I have some more? That serving size isn't even big enough for a smurf, let alone a 27 year old woman. Luckily I was able to ask for more.

We wants it!
DSCN1429.jpg

And that is what takes the scone from yum to YOWZA. And the tart from ho-hum to HUMINA-HUMINA. I didn't take a picture of my jam/cream slathered scone but for those of you who are curious I do jam first cream on top. I know some people take that kind of thing very seriously and I'd hate to leave you out of the loop.

And that was my meal. I didn't rush it at all and I had a good time, once I got served and all that. My server was quick with my check, and as I said she kinda woke up partway into my meal and turned very friendly and attentive. Better to improve than decline in service in my opinion.

I will go back to tea again, it was just so much fun. I'd like to do it on a day when I don't have two other full meals planned so that I could get the Grand Tea.

So we can mark this up in the redo column. It wasn't fabulous, but I know that it has the potential to be so.

Next up: Boma-Jiko culinary tour. Just me and about 25 of my closest strangers.

Laura, I'm glad you're feeling better! I really enjoyed this review. I took my daughter to the Perfectly Princess Tea at the Tearoom last year, and we had a great time, but I agree about the service.....it was less than stellar.

Oh-my-gawwwsh! Yay! Another Shenanigoat review!!!! :goodvibes

I thought I had read you were going to WDW again, couldn't remember when though, turns out we were there at the same time! Don't think I saw you, well, I didn't see anybody posing a Wall-E! He's sooooooo cute, and so photogenic in his little hat!

Thanks for all the great Crystal Palace photos, I don't think I've ever seen so many good inside photos of things other than the topiaries. Don't think we'll ever get to eat there, my group could not take the noise. I always wanted to try it long ago before it became a character meal, and we always said "next year"... but thanks to your photos I at least know what it looks like inside. Since you were there so early you got it its more pristine and unpopulated (except for Omelet Guy) state. :goodvibes

Hope you get to feeling better! Looking forward to more of your reviews! :cool1:

Loving your reviews!! This will keep me entertained until our trip coming up!!

I bet it was the note and picture taking that woke up your server! :rotfl2:

So glad you were able to enjoy your tea; it looked yummy! And I do cream then jam...:rolleyes1

Denise

I'm glad you're feeling better! The tea looks fantastic. I'm a tea person, too, but I think I would have a really hard time persuading my DH and 2 little boys to go to the GF for tea! :rotfl2:

I love the GF tea too and also ordered the Mad Hatter, it was wonderful...and I am also a Teavana freak and like to blend my own creations..I have so many of the tea canisters in my kitchen DH says he has to cut me off!

Hey! Syrup-loving Whomom here! Love the reviews, especially the one of the GV Tea; I just booked it for the last day of our trip! Do they now not open till 2:00? The CM tried to book me earlier and didn't show anything, then the rest of the afternoon was totally booked except for 3:40 p.m., which she thought was very odd.

Wall-e's ears are toooooo cute! :lovestruc

Thanks for the tea review!! :goodvibes We will be celebrating my DS's 35th birthday there in February! I absolutely agree that this portion of cream is rather ridiculous, I always wondered why they serve so little of it. It is good to know that they give you more if you ask for it. :thumbsup2

I love Wall-E's ears, he really works well with them. I guess this showes that you were right in your decision to make him your mascot, he is just so professional! :rotfl:

Looking forward to the Jiko/Boma tour - if we had time for it in September we would have done that ourselves. We'll just have to experience it vicariously through you. :)

Enjoying your reviews! I have not been to CP since the 80's also, because I'm not a huge buffet fan, and I don't really like the Pooh characters. The offerings look similar to Chef Mickeys, so I think we'll take our rug-rat there for his indoctrination into character dining.

I haven't been to the GF tea, and from the looks of your photos its been a terrible oversight. I'll have to put it on my "ADR Wishlist".

We have been experiancing technical difficulties.

DSCN1380.jpg

So I got really sick on my cruise and it kind of stayed with me and then I caught the hogflu. I actually started working on my Boma/Jiko culinary tour review but it was really hard to focus on what with the fever. I will start over and have it posted either this evening or tomorrow- PST time, so it might be late for some of you. Not that I assume anyone is waiting on the edge of the computer seat for me to keep going.

Laura, I'm glad you're feeling better! I really enjoyed this review. I took my daughter to the Perfectly Princess Tea at the Tearoom last year, and we had a great time, but I agree about the service.....it was less than stellar.

All they have to do is pour tea and plate sandwiches, I wonder what the deal is there? It was still nice though and I hope you and your Princess had a wonderful time.

Oh-my-gawwwsh! Yay! Another Shenanigoat review!!!! :goodvibes

Sorry that we missed bumping into each other. I was mostly in EPCOT, as you will see from later reviews. I may have to sneak into the CP next trip and get a nice pristine shot of the Omelet station. That picture does kind of crack me up though.:rotfl:

Loving your reviews!! This will keep me entertained until our trip coming up!!

I hope you have a great trip and eat well!

I bet it was the note and picture taking that woke up your server! :rotfl2:

Denise

Cream then Jam? Oh my this could be like the Butter Battle Book:laughing:

I'm glad you're feeling better! The tea looks fantastic. I'm a tea person, too, but I think I would have a really hard time persuading my DH and 2 little boys to go to the GF for tea! :rotfl2:

Maybe you could go alone for an hour or so and let the boys muck it up elsewhere? The GF is just a boat ride from the MK so you could wander off alone.

I love the GF tea too and also ordered the Mad Hatter, it was wonderful...and I am also a Teavana freak and like to blend my own creations..I have so many of the tea canisters in my kitchen DH says he has to cut me off!

I only have one cabinet shelf full of Teavana, but it's getting... fuller. Do you have a favorite blend?

Loving your reviews....and Wall-E. His ears are fabulous.

Why thank you. I'll send the compliment Wall*Es way.

Great update this is now on my list for my next trip:thumbsup2

I hope you enjoy it. It should be much more pleasant for you than it was for me because all the construction work won't be going on.

It's weird but they only open at 2, which is pushing it for me because I like early dinners on vacation. I might have to switch it up next trip and have later dinners, but that would mess up my Rope Dropping capabilities. In any event the Tea Room will be a lovely last day event for the Who-family!

So glad to read more of your review! :goodvibes

Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying them.:upsidedow

Wall*E did turn out to be the best mascot. He just has so much personality, which is weird to say for a stuffed robot, but he does. He also posed really well, unless it was windy. The only time I really had an issue with him was posing in front of the Great Movie Ride one day, because it was like a wind tunnel.

Looking forward to the Jiko/Boma tour - if we had time for it in September we would have done that ourselves. We'll just have to experience it vicariously through you. :)

If you get to do it some time I hope you get to go without 20 other people like mine.:scared1: There were so many of us that I know I'll have to do it again to really experiance it.

Enjoying your reviews! I have not been to CP since the 80's also, because I'm not a huge buffet fan, and I don't really like the Pooh characters. The offerings look similar to Chef Mickeys, so I think we'll take our rug-rat there for his indoctrination into character dining.

I think all the breakfast offerings are pretty much the same. I've been to Chef Mickey's about 10 years ago or so, but probably won't go again until I have a little ankle-biter of my own. If you go to the tea I hope you have fun, they don't except the dining plan fwi.:confused3

Due to a shift change at work I won't be home until 9:30 (PST) tonight, and I'll post by Boma/Jiko tour then. It's quite a lot of pictures, I may have to do a double post.:thumbsup2

Ick! Feel better soon...

Thank you!:goodvibes I have some later shifts at work which is helping with the sleeping in, but messing my ability to return to a normal sleep schedule. Oh well, that's the real world.

Take your time and feel better! We'll be here...

Denise

Thanks Denise! I'll have something up late tonight, but probably too late for Central and East coasters. I don't know who cruises this Dis at 10PM, lol.
