Glad you're feeling better Laura!

Loving your reviews so far. I've never done the Boma/Jiko tour but might have to check that out on my next trip as I'll be staying there again.

I just stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge (Kidani Village) in October and I thought the bus service was fine. I can only remember a long wait for a bus once but otherwise the service was pretty good and it's really not too far to the parks. It is a nice relaxing getaway and you can't beat the savanna views!

Looking forward to your Jiko review:thumbsup2

Thank you, I'm so glad to be better now, I was sick for like 2 weeks, blerg.

Did you do the Sanaa tour as well when you were in WDW? I heard they do it at the same time of day and I want to do that one next time.

Glad to see your back and feeling better!

Oooooh tours of Boma and Jiko? I have got to do that next time!!!!! That looks awesome!

Free Samples! Doesn't get more awesome than that.:goodvibes

And thanks, I am feeling much better now.:flower3:

Thanks for the review! When I did the tour, it started at Jiko and because I was late (the clock in our AKL room was 10 minutes slow...) I missed the first part. My sister and I really need to do this in January when we will be staying at AKL. :goodvibes

I hope you get to do it again, it was really nice. I hope to do it again with less people, even though I did have a good time with the herd.

oooo I need to put this tour on my list and then have dinner at one of the places.

Maybe it's getting so popular because everyone on the Dis is reading about it and showing up, lol. It could be like an unofficial Dis-meet with all the potential dis-ers there.

Great pictures of Jiko! We ate there in July and I had planned to try that taste of Africa appetizer but wasn't hungry enough. I knew about the wall and the birds, but had no idea about the neck rings! Very cool! :cool2:

I thought it was pretty interesting too. And in Boma the pillars are pots and it's divided by regions in Africa. They put so much thought into every aspect of AKL it's amazing.

The Jiko tour did seem like it was better than Boma. That's so cool that they do those for free! :thumbsup2

It is a pretty cool thing to do for free. Gives you a great insight into the restaurants.

What times do they run these tour? Thinking about doing it when we are there in 3 weeks.

The tour is at 4PM. I have read on the boards that others have gone on it at 4:30PM. What I did that day was call into the AKL and ask them what time the Boma/Jiko culinary tour was and they let me know. I just wanted to make sure I would be there on time.

love your report subscribing!!!!!!!! :goodvibes

I'm glad you like it. Thanks for reading.:flower3:

Hope you're feeling better! I'm all caught up! :) ...I should really do the tour sometime!

It's taken me a while, but I'm all caught up now. That food tour looks really interesting....and it's so rare to get anything for free at Disney!:lmao: Looking forward to your Jiko review.

Loving evreything so far and can not wait for Jiko! Thanks for all the wonderful post and I am happy you are doing better! :thumbsup2

Glad you're doing better, Laura.

Devonshire cream is the best part of getting scones. I agree.
And one day I will get my butt over to do the Boma/Jiko and Sanaa tours. :)

Nope, never did the Sanaa one either and I've stayed at Kidani twice now. I don't think I realized they did one there too the first time I was there and this last trip I really just forgot and didn't try and fit that into my schedule. There's always next time :goodvibes

I keep having to catch up with your DR, lol. Too much work, not enough internet time. I hope you get to do the tour, it's really fantastic. Plus free food!

It is rare to get the free things, that's why I wanted to check it out. Next time I'll go to the Sanaa tour.

Ah yes, the "next time". That's what keeps me going back, forgetting to do things. I suppose we'll all never run out of things to see and do at WDW.

The tour looks so interesting and fun (and tasty too!)! How long does it last?

The tour lasted about an 45 minutes. We were 30 minutes at Boma and about 15 at Jiko. After the Jiko portion everyone left and some of us stayed to talk with the hostess, who was very nice and even put out a bit more of the "Taste of Africa". :woohoo:

This trip was my 10th trip to WDW *golf clap* but it's only my third trip as an adult legally able to sample the wares at the many on site Boozeries. WDW now has a standardized drink menu at all bars, hindering most attempts at booze frivolity. However on this trip I was able to request a few off menu drinks and also to find signature drinks at places, so that I wasn't forced to constantly suck down a Magical Star cocktail. (not that there is anything wrong with that drink)

I had time to kill between my scheduled dinner at Jiko and after a failed attempt to walk to Kidani village in what my notes inform me was "10,005 degree weather", I grabbed a seat at Victoria Falls. (I would say that I technically grabbed a stool, but my 4th grade sense of humor prevents me from saying so.)

This image is provided to you from my January trip. Does not reflect actual dimness, crowd levels, or seat placement at the time of this dining report.

Victoria Fall is located off of the main lobby of the AKL, halfway down the flight of stairs that leads to the Boma and Jiko lobby/restroom/hallway/cattle corral. Wall*E and I were able to find a nice seat at the quiet end of the bar and catch some Around the Horn on ESPN while I imbibed. The Spouse was off work that day, and sitting at home watching it at the same time in his own timezone. It was like a moment from American Tail.

question: Does posting links to nonDisney animated features automatically earn you a Dis-lifeban?

I perused the drink menu, but being that it was completely sanitized... er standardized I had to ask if they could make me a Mount Kilamarita, which I had read about on other DRs. It was a pretty drink, and they made it pretty strong too. That was a trend on this trip. I kept getting seated at the crappiest tables, but I was getting served some strong drinks. I guess they figured that if I was boozed up I wouldn't mind the view?:rotfl2:

I wonder why the new deal is to serve drinks in these stumpy little glasses? I suppose it doesn't really matter, and I did get plenty of fully stemmed cocktails this trip, but these little glasses kind of bother me. I can't really articulate why, it's one of those many irrational dislikes that I have. It did not impede my enjoyment of this beverage though, even though I have no idea what was in it. Uhh, red stuff and booze. Photographic evidence shows that there was a lime. Yes. Also a salt rim.

Another hard hitting editorial piece, brought to you by Laura.

Next up: Dinner at Jiko! And yes Virginia, we are still only on day one of my trip.:faint:

Some day we're going to drink at Victoria Falls ... except that by the time we're finished it will be Brenda Falls ... because she drank too much. :rotfl2:

I think your drink looks fabulous ... did it taste good?

I absolutely love how Wall-E forms to whatever pic you may be taking!!!! It is kinda freaky also lol Love your reviews, keep em coming :)

I'd like to have one of those right now. Maybe it would help me forget that I can't breathe through my nose and my head is filled with congestion...:rolleyes1

:lmao: Still loving your report!

You are too funny!!!! :lmao:

I'm glad you are feeling better and can't wait to find out about the rest of your trip. Sorry to hear about your seating arrangements. Usually they sit people with children in the bad seats.

And I love CP's puffed french toast. I stopped counting after 3 on our last trip. They are on the children's buffet (not sure why as my kids didn't really care for them) but that didn't slow me down. I do have a big sweet tooth so you may not enjoy them as much if you don't like the overly sweet.

Tyra would be so proud - Wall*E is definitely "smizing".

Well MY theory on the stumpy glasses is that Disney is being kind to their servers. Do you know how hard it is to carry a tray full of Martini glasses across a crowded restaurant? By the time you make it to the table, half the drinks are gone. I think the stump bring a bit more balance to the mix.

Yes, the drink was tasty and fabulous. I just wish I knew what was in it. As for your "tipsy tripping" I was wondering how people can stagger out from that bar/Jiko with all the stairs weaving around there. I don't even know if there is an elevator/ramp to Victoria Falls to aid those who need it.

I absolutely love how Wall-E forms to whatever pic you may be taking!!!! It is kinda freaky also lol Love your reviews, keep em coming :)

Thanks! Wall*E was very adorable this trip. I've been taking him with me on my day jaunts to Disneyland and have gotten some great pics there as well. I should maybe post some.

Mmmm, love that drink!

Maybe I heard about it from you then? For the life of me I don't remember, except it's awesome name.:goodvibes

Sorry you were sick, I'm sure you're better now since it's taking me a week between updates.:headache: Nyquil is kind of like a cocktail, right?:rotfl:

My sweet tooth is decayed. I would have liked to have tried the puffed french toast, but I'm not loosing sleep over missing it or anything. I'll just wait to go back there if I have a kid of my own or go with my nephews.

Smizing and modeling H-2-T.:lmao: It's a shame he missed out on his chance to try for the shorties cycle. Your theory on stumpy glasses makes since. I was able to get the stems in more places this trip since last time, but I still saw lots of stumpy glasses around too.

Looking forward to the rest of your reviews!!!

Thanks! It's been taking me a bit of time to do this one. Curse you real world! Why can't I live in a dis-bubble?

Everyone has their dis-mate.:rotfl2: My interests are varied and many so I think I tickle a few peoples buttons. And if you want that drink it is off menu, so write down the name!:thumbsup2

I don't drink at Victoria Falls. It's pretty and all that, but they once refused to accept my TIW card (I believe because the bartender did not want to summon a manager from Jiko to approve it). I hear they haven't done that to others but I just drink at the Jiko wine bar now.

That looks like a yummy cocktail. I really like the Victoria Falls bar. And I'd much prefer a good strong drink to a good table -- although getting both once in a while would be great!

Looking forward to more!!
