The Duggar Family is pregnant AGAIN!

I don't think this thread is geting ugly. There are just a few of us that feel if you are going to have a lot of kids you should be the one raising them, not making your older kids take care of them.

As for comparing them to the Amish and the Mennonites. They would not exploit their families the way the Duggars do and they sure wouldn't live like this.

Ok, a couple of things I noticed about those pictures.

1) The bathroom picture: Did anyone else notice that there are 2 toilets side by side with no wall or privacy barrier there? WTH?!

2) Ok, does the 20 year old at all feel weird that he sleeps in the same room with the toddlers?

3) I don't think I saw Michelle doing anything at all. It was the girls ironing, the girls doing laundry, the girls fixing the little ones hair, the girls cooking. WTH does Michelle do? Oh, that's right....:woohoo:

Long hair, skirts, loose fitting long sleeves etc are all potential hazards when dealing with manual labor, power tools and many forms of machinery/equipment. If a CEO's job entailed any of the above, then yes a skirt or a dress would make them less able to do their job.
I somehow don't think that was the original point of asking if the girls were in dresses. I might have read the comment totally wrong, but safety didn't seem to be what the concern was.
ETA: The quoted post is also another perfect example of stereo-typing. Women must be wearing a skirt or dress to be "dressed as a woman".
Nice try. I didn't say they MUST be wearing a skirt or dress to be "dressed as a woman". I identified wearing dresses as being "dressed as a woman" because ... well ... if you wear a dress, you're dressed as a woman. If you saw a man walking around in a dress, I'm thinking you wouldn't say, "Oh look ... he's dressed like a man."

:earsboy:

Why does that matter? Are they less able to do the job if they're dressed as a woman? I guess in your world, no female CEO should wear a skirt or a dress because that makes them less able to do the job.

:earsboy:

I have yet to see a female CEO injured when their skirt or dress gets caught in the gears of their desk and they're pulled in. Could you site some sources or are you just stirring the pot?

Don't female executives always wear pants suits anyway? :rolleyes1

Because common sense dictates that you do not wear loose, flowing clothing while operating power tools. It has nothing to do with traditional roles and everything to do with safey.

Thank you!! Industrial safety folks would have a cow at the thought of women wearing big loose dresses to work in.
No drippy sleeves, no flowing dresses, no big collars...Nothing that can accidentally be caught on anything.

Excerpt from the AP article:

Jim Bob Duggar, a former member of the Arkansas Legislature and an unsuccessful U.S. Senate candidate, has not been specific when asked how he supports such a big family. But he said he was guided by a seminar about 20 years ago — a system he still advocates — that blends finance and religion.

Blending finance with religion? Does that mean that they're really Scientologists?

Exactly! I wouldn't want anyone taking that close of a look at my family life either! :scared:

I don't get WHY it's such a big deal if the girls all want to be wives and mothers and the boys all want to go into real estate like dad. It's no different than a child being "expected" to be a doctor because there are four generations of them in the family, or a child "expected" to take on the family business. Theoretically, the doctor's kid or the family business kid have infinite choices, but they willingly follow the family line because it's how they've been brought up. This isn't any different.

Just because someone subscribes to a different lifestyle than all of us doesn't mean our way is better. It's just different. I'd sure as heck rather have the Duggars for my neighbors than the "Real Housewives of NYC."

:earsboy:

It's a big deal because the children are being raised to conform to certain gender specific roles. They are not being given the chance to choose their own paths, find their own interests. If the kids come to those roles on their own, that's one thing. But it's been dictated for them.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :worship: :worship: Quote of the day. I got choked laughing at that.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I wasn't joking. The doctors actually told her that her uterus could fall out! I'll bet when it does it will sound like pots and pans falling out of a cabinet. :thumbsup2 I was joking about the second part. She's a human clown car.

There's a difference between blending and obscuring. ;)

Maybe he's referring to channeling funds through their church and using their taxation exemptions to put more money into their pockets so they can spend money on food and clothing rather than giving a third to Uncle Sam. I think the family might be technically employed by their church even though Jim Bob makes very good money from commercial real estate. Of course their other trick isn't that difficult a concept to understand. Don't incur debt. The live in a state with a very low cost of living where land and housing can be had for very little. I don't think I could live the way they do.

There IS no privacy in their house, except in the parents' suite. I wonder if any of these kids ever feel like they just want to be alone for just ten minutes. Mom and Dad are the only ones who ever get any privacy.

Hence the 18 kids.

I personally use my power tools naked.:snooty: Some things are loose and somewhat flowy (is that a word?) but so far so good. Anyone need a deck built?:rotfl2:

From reading about the Quiverfull (sp) idea that they follow, one of the child-raising ideas is not to let them sleep alone in order to resist the temptation of mas*****tion, which is considered a sin. Bathroom time is timed, and the only real chance for any of them to be "alone" is during private prayer time in the "prayer closet".

No surprised, but OMG

And on a much yuckier note--Who has to clean the "Prayer closet":rolleyes1 :scared:

I'll bet there's a huge waiting list for that Prayer Closet then. It's probably booked further in advance than "Mom Time".
