The Duggar Family is pregnant AGAIN!

From reading about the Quiverfull (sp) idea that they follow, one of the child-raising ideas is not to let them sleep alone in order to resist the temptation of mas*****tion, which is considered a sin. Bathroom time is timed, and the only real chance for any of them to be "alone" is during private prayer time in the "prayer closet".

We'll be reading about this and more when one of the Duggar kids writes their tell-all book about growing up.

There's a place over in Omaha that has those too but I don't think they call them "prayer closets."

You know, I still am stuck on the 20 year old sleeping in the same room with toddlers...
Someone else said that the boys and girls swapped jobs for a day too. Even the 20 year old?
I'm trying to wrap my brain around it, but either he is just slow, the parents have stunted his mental growth or he is just plain brainwashed. What 20 year old in the right mind would still be living like this? It's nice that he's playing with his little brothers and sisters in the pictures, but all the time?! There is just something not right about it. I don't care what anyone says.
I believe there are an 18 year old set of twins too.

Here's a photo of the prayer closet.

The idea of a prayer closet is not unique to this family. Why is it that this concept must be ridiculed? Many of my close friends have a prayer closet in their homes where they go to pray, and I admire and respect them for it.

I didn't mean to ridicule the prayer closet. It's biblical, actually. I was just mentioning it as the only place where the children are permitted to be alone. The parents follow the fundamentalist Christian child-rearing teachings of Bill G----- I can't remember the last name, it's on the tip of my tongue. Anyway, he advises parents that giving children alone time can lead to sexual/other impurities.

I'm sorry I offended you, since you have friends with a prayer closet.

EDITED to add: the man's name is Bill Gothard. Google was my friend. :)

Is your friend's prayer closet the only place where someone can be allowed privacy? No one is ridiculing the idea of having a prayer closet. What is ridiculous is the fact that is the ONLY place in that house one can go to get privacy. And yeah, that in itself can open the imagination up to a whole lot of things.

I wonder if Josh Duggar will get married in a few years and build the next house on the compound.

I have no problem with a Prayer Closet. I have a problem with the Prayer Closet being the only place in the house that you can go for some alone time.

And I don't mean "Alone Time" as in a place to get your jollies. I mean time to just be by yourself. Just because I'm spending time by myself in my room reading or watching TV doesn't automatically mean I'm going to be doing the deed. How demeaning it must be to know that that's what your religion/parents automatically assumes.

And don't get me started on not even being able to take a dump by yourself. That's just cruel.

I respectfully disagree. The tone this thread has taken is one which mocks just about everything related to this family and what they stand for, and with that there are some pretty cheap shots taken at Christians and their beliefs. It would appear that most of the people posting here would love the dirt of finding out that one of the boys was abusing drugs or one of the girls was sneaking out at night, because that would be "normal."

I somehow don't think that was the original point of asking if the girls were in dresses. I might have read the comment totally wrong, but safety didn't seem to be what the concern was.

:earsboy:

I asked that question. You are right - there was a hint of cynicism in my question but I also never saw the show where the kids were working on the house. I am genuinely interested in whether or not they are being exposed to marketable skills or if they were being paraded around for the purpose of he cameras. Sounds like the latter. But don't underestimate my concern about safety - that is very, very real. Dresses are just clothes - they can still be good "Christian" girls and work in pants. To think otherwise is ridiculous.

"The girls swapped jurisdictions, changing tires, working in the garages, mowing the grass," she said. "The boys got to cook supper from start to finish, clean the bathrooms," among other chores.

Sorry Duggars, Mike and Carol Brady already beat you to this idea.

Amen!!! Those poor kids. How mentally unhealthy to never have any alone time. Even that isn't really alone time b/c if you are expected to be praying and you'd rather just daydream or think and then you feel guilty b/c you're supposed to be praying.

Religion aside I think the way these kids are being raised is wildly unfair.

Oh, and where can you find the stewardship in bringing 18 children into an already overcrowded world?

I don't think people are taking shots at Christianity. Many contributing to this thread are Christians. As I have said before, I have a problem with fundamental religions, ALL fundamental religions, not just Christian ones, that take away the equal rights given to women under the law in order to control women and make them subservient to men.

I think it would be very sad if any of the children got into trouble, as I'm sure most people would, but there is a chance that at least one of the children could rebel after being forced to live such a cloistered existence.

That is just sick. Michelle and JB strike me as very selfish and I hope that CPS investigates them at some point. Kids need to be kids, not pseudo-parental "buddies."

Wow, I sure hope none of those kids has IBS!

It's bad enough with me and GF trying to have 1 bathroom and coordinate our use so we don't make the other person late for work. But if I had a time limit....:faint:

The one I feel sorry for is the one who gets sent in to watch the kid struggle with his/her IBS. Because they would obviously have to send someone in to make sure there was really a bowel issue, right? Just in case the kid in question was fakin' it for extra peace and quiet?

Yeah I don't get the 2 toilets side by side thing. What is so terrible about pooping in peace? Is there a scripture against that? I know my church never mentioned it.:confused3
