Interesting how "Dad" is listed as a goal for the boys but "Mom" isn't for the girls. It's either understood or the girls don't want to think about it.Discovery Health website has a page about the Duggars. Each child had info as well.
Goals for the boys:
Attorney
Contractor
Artist
Dad
Missionary
Carpenter
Policeman
Fireman
Big brother
Goals for the Girls:
Midwife
Missionary
Beautician
Chef
Nurse
Even if they are 18 or over... if they are considered "dependant" don't they still qualify???
Can you image if the mom did die in child birth, that would be really sad. The saddest part would be, the family wouldn't have any problem carrying on since the kids do most of the domestic chores and child rearing.
No, the Amish would never agree to be on TV!But if you looked at their lifestyle, and see the littly kids on top of huge horses plowing the fields when you drive by, some would question that, too. Big difference is, they spend their life on those farms and don't leave their way of life. They stay in the bubble they grew up in.
II'd like to see their household budget. They probably spend $2000 a month on just groceries and household staples. Can you imagine the amount of TP they use?![]()
This thread is appalling. I cannot believe the way grown adults are behaving like 3rd graders, making fun of people's names or what 2 grown adults choose to do. If they can afford it, if they are self sufficient, who are we to judge. What's wrong with home churches, do you know if they have other families in their home for church? My neighbor goes to a home church, where 5 families meet. Let me ask why anyone has the right to tell me or the Duggars that I should only have x (insert amount, usually 2.5) children and/or use birth control? You don't see the Duggars making fun of you or anyone else for that matter. My girls wear a one piece swimsuit with board type swim shorts over them, what's wrong with modest swimwear? You don't think a camera man from Discovery, a person at the grocery store, a relative or even children's services would act upon suspected abuse? You know people are probably keeping an eye on them.
Just because someone is different doesn't mean you have to rip them to shreds and make fun of their sex life or body parts.
Just because they choose to be on camera to share their lifestyle and earn money is no different than someone being on Dr Ph*l, Op*ah or the Who's-my-baby's-daddy shows. I don't see anyone here on a thread bashing these shows, please correct me if I am wrong.

Who uses birth control and does not home church and whose kids go to public school and who thinks this thread is more about religion/politics than it is about the Duggars.
The Duggar's buy their swimsuit from here

Not everyone who is critical of this family has made fun of them or made rude or vulgar comments.
Did anyone actually vote on a name for the new baby? I voted, so that maybe they won't give another child a stupid name like Jinger. There's a lot of pretty "J" girl names out there; Juliette (the one I voted for), Julia, Julianne, Jane, Julie, Juliana, Jasmine, Janelle; they vetoed all of those for Jinger?! I voted Jacob for a boy.
Discovery or TLC or whatever company is originally producing these shows picked the Duggars because they would be controversial and generate discussion, which keeps the shows doing well. They like that people are talking about the shows. They want us to discuss them. If we were peeking in our neighbor's windows and criticizing them, that would be one thing, but the Duggars invite the criticism with their extreme way of life and the Discovery Channel encourages that.
I agree. The only thing I am critical of is the older children raising the younger children. They are not helping, they are the primary parent. To me that is disgusting. A child should not have to get up in the middle of the night because their "buddy" had to get up. They should be sleeping because they are growing children, not adults with the responbility of a child they did not choose to have.

I will not now, nor ever, apologize for anything I have said or for the way I feel. What is wrong with home churches? I have issues with building your home for the purpose of being your church and then taking the tax benefits for its. Can I start holding services in my home and start calling it a temple? I certainly can use the tax break.
I have issues with a family that in this day and age, assigns "girl" and "boy" chores and which are raising their children to continue on in clearly defined and stereotypical roles. I have issues with a family that does not allow children to be children and which does not allow kids to find their own talents and interests. I ahve issues with raising children in a cocoon.
I have issues with a family that has such a strong and negative environmental impact. You cannot tell me that 90,000 disposable diapers in one family is a good thing.
I have issues with parading your family on tv for the purpose of financial gain. You do that, and I will comment. It is vastly different than someone appearing on Dr. Phil. Michelle Duggar's crowing achievement is the fact that she can get pregnant at the drop of a hat.
I wonder about the damage that is being done psychologically to the kids. Sure, they seem happy, but their reactions on the Today show do lead me to believe that even they are wondering when enough is enough. Which one was wondering who would be the "buddy" to that baby. Children should not be raising children. If a parent wants to have multitudes of children, then they need to be prepared to raise them. Do not pass that off on your other children. They did not choose this life.
