The Dixie Chicks Denounce President Bush

No matter how you feel about President Bush or the pending war or if you're a Republican or Democrat.........I think it's safe to say that most people don't pay good money to hear a band/group sing and then have them force their personal &/or political views upon the crowd. Yes forced, it's not like they prefaced the political statment with a 'cover your ears if you don't care to hear my personal viewpoints'. We are all allowed the freedom of speech. BUT.....it's not free when a person pays $50+ dollars to hear someone make political statements.

Hmmm, nothing in the dictionary about being ashamed one is from Texas, go figure?!

Too bad the Iraqui people don't have the freedom to let us know how they feel about a possible invasion by the U.S. Then again over 200,000 have disappeared as Saddam has been practicing ethnic cleansing for years, including murdering two of his son-in-laws. There was an Iraqui-American on our local news the other night saying the war protestors are seriously misguided, that the majority of the people WANT the US to invade to give them their freedom from tyranny, fear and repression. He is on the frontline working for the U.S. intelligence.

So we're sending our young men and women to possibly put their life on the line to defend democracy, and any American who doesn't agree with it shoud shut-up or be kicked out of the country Goofymom 23?

Interesting. . .

Tori, so millitary pay was raised 38.7% under Regan, and 26.5% under Clinton. . what were the different rates of inflation for those years?

As I recal inflation was much higher during most of the Reagan years and low during Clinton's. . .

Oh, and for the record. . I am 100% behind a boycott of Yoko Ono. . ;) :teeth:

It has come to my attention that the first U.S.A city on the Dixie Chicks American tour is in Greensborough, N.C. Something tells me that they may find some Americans that might disagree with them. I hope they are ready. :)

Just visited a military message board that I frequent and as you can probably imagine, this is a "hot" topic over there. Anyway, someone just posted this from the Dixie Chicks website...looks like the HEAT is making Natalie rethink her statement.;)

March 14, 2003

"As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful. I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect. We are currently in Europe and witnessing a huge anti-American sentiment as a result of the perceived rush to war. While war may remain a viable option, as a mother, I just want to see every possible alternative exhausted before children and American soldiers' lives are lost. I love my country. I am a proud American."

...and by the way, Sean Penn has verbally supported Saddam Hussein.

And let me guess, everyone who is opposed to this war is just a cookie cutter imitation of Sean Penn. We don't have different thoughts, reasonings, methods, or anything. Because ONE person has allegedly supported Saddam, everyone who doesn't want to go to war also supports him. We are Borg.

Whatever  :rolleyes

And I'm still waiting for an answer from those who get their britches in a bunch if anyone dares say they don't agree with President Bush, but thought it was perfectly ok to slam President Clinton (and don't just give me the Lewinsky scandal as an excuse).
It's either ok to slam a President in office, or it's not. Make up your minds.

I think some people need to pick up a history book and read about "McCarthyism". . . maybe we should force the poor woman to take a "loyality oath"?

And Jenz; don't hold your breath. . .

BORG?

As for Sean Penn, he's an idiot and a traitor. His little excursion to Iraq could easily have endangered the lives of our military personnel. Unless you've done something of this nature, then I don't consider anyone with a view against this war to be a "cookie cutter imitation" of Mr. Penn.

I hope and pray every day that we can find a way to avoid war, but at this point I think it would take a miracle.

As for "slamming" Mr. Clinton - all I can say is that I don't have to turn off my television when my 10 year old daugter is in the room today, as I did when the evening news was constantly talking about Mr. Clinton and his Oval Office escapades. It's easier to explain pending war to a child that to be embarassed by the leader of the free world.

Mr. Bush has my respect - Mr. Clinton never did.

Now that's better, Natalie, you are learning already. See how you can disagree and still be respectful?

You didn't answer my question. And the Oval office "escapades" didn't not take up his entire Presidential career.

It's either ok to slam a President in office or it is not. Make up your mind. You had 8 yrs to say whatever you wanted to about President Clinton while he was in office. I have my right to say what I wish about President Bush and his policies while he's in office.

If that makes me un-American, then look in the mirror.

I think natalie truly thinks what she first said and is only doing damage control now that her money might be affected.

Maybe for closed minded sensationalists

You know how I'll remember the Clinton years? As a time when I wasn't worried every day about being homeless, and not being fearful that my right to control myself and my body would be taken away

I'm SURE she's heard from Sony Records today! According to the news reports, the city of Nashville was in an uproar and the phone hadn't stopped ringing at Sony.

Funny how money talks. ;)

Maybe for closed minded sensationalists

Well, at least I haven't stooped to name calling.

You're right...there were good points about the Clinton years and times are scarey now. But at least I can respect the man in office now. Can you honestly say that you trusted and respected Mr. Clinton?

Not sure how we got from the Dixie Chicks to this...

Tori, so millitary pay was raised 38.7% under Regan, and 26.5% under Clinton. . what were the different rates of inflation for those years?

Inflation was lower during the Clinton presidency. Another thing that President Clinton did that people conveniently forget is that during his last term, he followed the (very good) advice of William Cohen, and began a process of significantly lowering the amount of out-of-pocket expenses that military families pay when they live off base. In the past, the standard was that BAH would pay 80% of the average housing expenses for an area, dependant on rank. The remaining 20% (on average) would come out of basic pay. The course that we are currently on, which was started by President Clinton, will bring BAH payments up to 100% of average off-base costs by 2005. And that money is tax-free, so what you see is really what you get.

We've always been fortunate - since we are both active duty, we each draw full rate BAH (me with dependants, DH without dependants), so we've actually made money by living off base. But for families where only one member is active duty, off-base expenses could be very difficult to handle.

Did I specifically say that you were a closed minded sensationalist? No more than you specifically said I support Saddam because I am against the war. My point was that only those people who shut their minds and only focus on the sensationalism of the Lewinsky scandal are of course only going to remember Clinton's entire administration for that event.
Hence my use of the term closed minded sensationalists.

How that got to calling you a closed minded sensationalist is a pretty big leap.

I neither trust nor respect any politician. Past and current administrations included. I do not think any politician is in office for any reason other than the glory of power and the high of control.

I did however hold much more faith in my ability to keep my job and my house in the previous administration. And I believe Clinton was much more interested in the state of the economy and domestic issues than Bush is.

But this is all completely besides my point, which is simple - it is either ok to be vocal in your dissent about a President in office or it is not.

I have some WONDERFUL DIS friends who don't necessarily agree with war, but they don't post negative threads about our President. Luckily those are the one's who adopted my son in regards to CARE packages.

twinmom, thank you for making my decision very easy for me.   i am so angry right now i could spit!
