The Dixie Chicks Denounce President Bush

...and in answer to that I will say that I believe being vocal in your dissent and being disrepectful are two different things.

I believe that Ms. Maines was disrespectful and she has apologized publicly.

...and Caity, don't know why you're so mad, but be my guest and spit.

TwinMom7-
That last statement made me giggle. At last a ray of humor in all of this!;)

Sure a lot better than getting our drawers in a bunch, huh bunchkin?;)

As I have said before, for probably the first time in my life, I am embarassed to be an American with George W. as president. If people want to boycott the Dixie Chicks, that is their right. I might just go out and buy my first DC CD (and, yes, I have heard them and I think there music is pleasant, too).

If we need to go to war, we need to go to war. But there are too many things the Bush administration has done (or not done) to force us to where we are, and it is evident that the president and his merry band of thieves need to take some lessons in diplomacy and honesty.

Let's start with the 35 cents per gallon of the gasoline price increase that the Bush administration directly caused (and look at where that money went).

Maybe I oughta send this email? :teeth:

Dear Dixie Chicks,

It seems to me that the DC apology came from their pocketbooks not their hearts.

I wholeheartedly agree that you can disagree agreeably and respectfully and still be patriotic - I believe that's what we fought for in 1776 - our right to be free and express ourselves. With that said, it is hard to hear these so-called stars bash America particularly while overseas. I defend their right to oppose war - I don't defend their disloyalty to our country.

Gee, and I guess the Germans who had a problem with Hitler were disloyal and not patriots. Disagreeing with, opposing, and being embarassed by a jerk who has no business being an elected official has nothing to do with patriotism. I fully support our armed forces, I fully support the United States, but the idiot we have as President (and many of the people he has surrounded himself with) is clueless and directly hurts me in the pocketbook every day.

Dr. P, to equate George Bush with Hilter is grotesque and compeletely offensive!!!!!

Doctor P ~ you remind of another poster whom, if I remember correctly said the same thing about Pres. Bush over on the Debate Board.

I must say that I, too, find it appalling to compare Hitler and Pres. Bush.

You are entitled to your opinion as distasteful as it is to me.

I certainly was actually not in any way equating George W. with Hitler (yet), but making a tremendously valid point that most Americans blindly ignore. My point is only that disagreeing with one's leader and with the policies of one's country does not in any way make one disloyal or less of a patriot. Take your pick of despicable leaders and those who have opposed them. George W. Bush, and his father George H.W. Bush are despicable human beings who have lied and cheated their entire lives at other people's expense. If one does not recall, George H.W. Bush was intimately involved in our trade of arms for hostages and the rest of the Iran/Contra affair. George W. Bush stole the most important elected office in the world and has continued to repay his brother through using my tax dollars and the power of the presidency. He has also, at my expense, repaid the small oil companies. He has also, at my expense, engaged in corporate fraud as a businessman and not vigorously prosecuted corporate fraud when it came to light during his administration. He wrote checks to millions of American taxpayers, plunging us into the depths of the worst deficits in history without having substantive programs to show for it. His administration is also responsible, if you read the report written PRIOR to 9/11, for the most stridently uncompromising Ramboesque foreign policy that contributed to the Arab world outrage that contributed to things like 9/11 and put us squarely at odds with our traditional rivals and in a very tenuous, insecure, and dangerous position. If he causes World War III (which seems plausible at this time), his place with the other despicable leaders of the past will be cemented.

I stand by my statement - you most certainly were equating Bush with Hitler!

He wrote checks to millions of American taxpayers

He gave taxpayers back some of their own money, and you equate this with Hitler????

if you read the report written PRIOR to 9/11

What report would this be? What is your source?

Even if you had any proof whatsoever (which you don't!) of the other baseless accusations you mentioned in your hate-filled diatribe, NONE of those things is on the level of what Hilter did!!!

and directly hurts me in the pocketbook every day

This just shows me exactly where you're coming from. Some people are willing to sacrifice their own personal interests when it comes to national security, some are not.

 :(

Doctor P you are out of control.

How did Bush steal the office? The Supreme Court made a decision and as always America has lived with it! The people who are still whining need to get over it. Our presidency is decided by the electoral college and not popular vote. And I have yet to see him "repay" his brother for this. I think the recounts were inherently flawed with human error and the first count should have been what they stuck with, but the bottom line is Gore lost so quit whining.

As far as tax cuts go, I will support any tax cut for any amount. The federal government is entirely too big and I support any cut to it's funding. Nowhere in the constitution is an income tax mentioned, the government does not have the right to raid the paychecks of the American worker. Comparing someone to Hitler because he sent out $600 and $300 checks, hahahahahahahahahaha. That is actually a lot of money to some people.

I think Bush is showing heroism by not backing down to the leaders of other nations that are in bed with Iraq (Chirac).

Personally I would put Bush as my #5 President of all-time.

1. Washington
2. Jefferson
3. Lincoln
4. Reagan
5. W. Bush

And one more thing Doctor P. Where was this outcry when Clinton constantly bombed Iraq during his presidency, or when he sent out troops into Kosovo and thousands of civilians were killed? I feel that most of the anti-war people have just hopped on the bandwagon without realizing that they've supported similar action their entire life. Either that or the economy was fine when Clinton pushed those military action so they turned the other cheek. The hypocrisy is astonishing!!!

I am through fighting with the uninformed. There are moderate, independent sources for all of the assertions I have made about George W. and his father. Whether one chooses to ignore them or evaluate them differently is certainly one's own prerogative. Just one example is provided this week with the resignation of Rehnquist's daughter from the administration and the multi-source documentation on aid the Justice Department provided to Jeb Bush's reelection campaign. It is possible to provide book, chapter, verse, and line from multiple independent sources on the rest. This is not about national security, it is about personal retribution and vindication (now, THAT's an opinion!). We'll just agree to disagree. But I am sure we can agree about this: I don't want to see my personal security or national security breached; I don't want to see any more innocent people die as victims of terrorism or war; I want to see Bin Laden brought to justice. If this requires a war, so be it. I just have this sick feeling in my stomach that we have done a poor job of diplomacy to get us where we are today. I wish it were different circumstances, but it appears that war is imminent and probably now unavoidable.

Dr. P, I am honestly interested in reading your sources. It's really not fair to claim someone is uniformed, and not be willing to back up your claims with some hard facts. I am particularly interested in the claim that the Justice Department aided Jeb's reelection, as I've not heard that claim at all????

I just have this sick feeling in my stomach that we have done a poor job of diplomacy to get us where we are today.

I do agree with you there. Although, I am not sure if any administration could have done any better, with the French obviously willing to stand in the way, indefinitely, of disarming Saddam.

Bet,

The Rehnquist thing was reported in all the major newspapers and there were major wire service stories (although, in fairness, the stories I picked up from the major newspapers [web and hard copy] were for the most part buried and short). The Ramboesque foreign policy angle was in the major news magazines that immediately preceded 9/11--they may actually have been dated a few days after 9/11 but were written and published prior to 9/11. These articles were particularly striking to me since I was reading them in-flight the week after 9/11 and was, frankly, very very shaken by their contents. In fairness, there has been some amount of at least public persona to the Bush administration's foreign policy if only because Colin Powell has been carrying more of the burden and responsibility unlike pre-9/11. The issue of the Bush administration's energy policy and it's sole responsibility for 35 cents of the gas price increase we have seen (through their direct purchases of millions of barrels of oil from particular small domestic suppliers) has been on the wires, the new magazines, the newspapers, business magazines, and contemporary economics journals.

In an effort to stay informed, I typically read the news sections of at least 4 and usually 6 newspapers from across the country each day (something I have now done for over twenty years); familiarize myself with the contents of the major news magazines each week; typically consult with international relations, legislative, judicial, and presidential experts on at least a bi-weekly basis; and get briefed by corporate government relations people on at least a weekly basis. I might add that most of my "behind the scenes" intelligence comes from the Republican sources, though much of the expert information is provided by a mix of viewpoints that includes many Democrats. This does not make my opinion better than anyone else's, but in some cases it may make the information upon which I form my opinion broader and deeper than that available to many other people.

I pray for President Bush and for our country every night. Whether I like the man or not, much of my life is dependent upon his good judgement and honesty. On those grounds, I hope he succeeds in spite of himself.

And one more thing Doctor Pathetic

I think you should edit that personal attack right out of your post.
