The Disney resorts have forever spoiled me....

Eros, I think you need at least 666 points to trade for DVC!

We stayed at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. They clean your room and bathroom twice a day... and yet, you never see them do it!

Sounds like MY kind of hotel!

DH speaks very highly of the Las Vegas resorts he's stayed in. He said you never have to wait for an elevator--unlike at the hotel we just stayed at. The waits were so long that most of the time we took the stairs!

LOL, Blondie;) . Of course, women have to exhibit appropriate dress at MOTEL 666 ;)

Never stayed at the HI Sunspree, but I have noticed other VA Beach hotels (Sheraton, Days Inn OCF, and Cavalier) to not be in great shape. Yeah, they all look okay from the outside, but there are problems. We had a corner efficiency at the Sheraton, and our A/C could not cool the room down. They wheeled in 3 or 4 different units (they can slide in and out of the wall, as they are built into it), and none of them really worked. Our room at the Cavalier was small and in not-so-good condition (they have been refurbished), and the Days Inn's rooms were plain and the furniture wasn't a high quality. Elevator service at them (except the Cavalier) was horrible - two elevators for the entire hotel to use? You could wait 10+ minutes for the elevator - and the one at the Days Inn was always "out of order", so only one actually worked.

We are trying the Ramada next year, I hope it's a little better. :)

I don't know...I kind of liked Portofino Bay better than PO Riverside and waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy better than AS Sports (when I reqested a NON-smoking room and they stuck us in SMOKING!) Not a good move on their part!

We've found that while there are some really nice places outside of WDW, we always end up making a comparison.

We usually go to Ocean City, MD every summer
but I can't stand paying more for a hotel there than in WDW
Hotel we used to stay at has gotten too run down
so we haven't stayed there in several years but they still
get over $200 in prime season for it
Hotel we stayed at last year is $259 per night in prime season
YUGH!!
We stayed last week of August last year at a discount of I think
$139 or $159 per night.
I just booked WL first week of dec for this year at WDW for $117 plus tax per night.

I just don't think Ocean City MD is worth more than Disney

(when I reqested a NON-smoking room and they stuck us in SMOKING!)

That has happened to us twice at WDW, once at Coronado Springs, and once at the Polynesian. Coronado upgraded us to a water view room when we called to complain. The Poly moved us to a different longhouse (from Tokelau to Rarotonga) and send us a snack basket for our troubles. BOTH TIMES it was due to someone nextdoor smoking---it was coming right through the connecting room door--so bad that we had to say something. We paid for a non-smoking room, and we expect such.

Never stayed at the HI Sunspree, but I have noticed other VA Beach hotels (Sheraton, Days Inn OCF, and Cavalier) to not be in great shape

Our room at the H.I. Sun Spree was in pretty good shape, but the bathroom was unbelievably small! The rugs looked brand new, the beds were very comfortable, and the bedspreads and drapes were all bright and cheerful. They do appear much nicer on the "outside" however! We went w/the HISS because of their outdoor pool, which is one of the best at VA Beach. The brand new Comfort Inn North has a beautiful outdoor pool, but it's in a very small contained area. They wanted over $200 per night to stay there.

I just don't think Ocean City MD is worth more than Disney

That is one of the reasons I've stayed away from Ocean City, MD. The room rates are higher there than at VA Beach.

Growing up I made the trip to Disney several times a year (I remember the year the rate for a 1 bedroom suite went over $100 night for the first time). This spoiled me more than you can imagine! To top that off I worked in the hotel industry for a decade, I *know* what can and can't be done.

My husband is also a snob, without the Disney experience. I keep trying to tell him that he's in for a treat and he just doesn't believe me! :-) We find that Wynham's usually have the same level of attention to detail.

I spent a year in Virginia Beach when I was in the Navy, yuck. Most of the hotels were just plain gross. They may charge an arm and a leg for an ocean view room during the summer, but in the winter they fill for $30 a night with sailors and marines holding parties because they want to escape the base.
