The Disney Dog Collar (MagicBand)

I like the idea of the wristband for some things, but I don't like the idea of Fastpass+. I wonder if there will be a way to do a regular FP if you have a band. I'm guessing no...

Nope, Cheshire Figment said there would be no way to use the regular FP machines using the RFID technology, that's why once you opt in to the new system, there's no going back.

But if you don't want to use the FP+ would you need to use the My Disney Experience site (not trying to be rude, really wondering?)

I'm certainly no expert!! No one on here is an expert on a system Disney hasn't even put in place yet, right??

I don't think that you would need to use MDE website if you don't want to use FP+ -- at least as communicated so far. They're saying ALL of that (MDE, MagicBand) is opt-in at this point.

I do know that with RFID you could easily toggle functionalities on or off. They could have an RFID card that gives park and hotel room access, and nothing else -- i.e. you would NOT need to use the MDE website. So that card would NOT be linked with your other personal information or your ADRs, and would not access the FP+ system.

I sounds to me that this is an option they've put forth -- who knows what "survives" a full roll-out, though?!

Based on the legalese Terms and Conditions they've released so far, doesn't sound like it. Sounds like it's one or the other... at least as communicated so far.

Yea... my first thought was 'big brother is watching' I don't think I like that!

Disney is always watching. :cool2: When I booked my first trip under my married name they were able to link to all my past trips under my maiden name. The CM called it an 'in house system'. I never asked them to do it. When I received my reservation confirmation through email it had my mother's phone number on it, and she wasn't even on the reservation at the time. They know where you are on property regardless. Everytime you swipe the KTTW card. No difference with the bracelet, just more convenient in my opinion. Especially when you are the carrier of all the cards. But to each his own ;)

Wait an minute! We have a trip planned in Sept, and there was no way for me to get to the old Disney website to view my reservations. So I uploaded our reservations into the new MyDisneyExperience site and added our kids names. Does this mean I singed up for FP+?

If given the choice, I think I'd stick with the old system with the cards!

Wasn't it only a few years ago one of the resorts got hacked and some guests cc numbers were stolen. Nothing is perfectly safe, but I think it would be rare for someone to get yor info off your band.

yes, 2009 and ours discover card was included.

The resort did not get hacked from the outside. An employee of the resort was skimming card numbers.

I'm not sure I like the idea of the wrist band, but I will hold off my opinion until I get there to see it for myself.

They can provide an RFID card that is enabled to only function as a room key and park admission -- not to link into the My Disney Experience site, etc.

There is no technical reason they couldn't link the FP+/My Disney Experience stuff to an RFID room key. This sounds totally arbitrary - I'm sure many of these elements can and will change as this rolls out (and years beyond the rollout). I sure hope so.

No, the website is just part of it.

And I believe we will not be given a choice. Once a resort goes to NexGen, everyone staying there goes. Off-site will be last.

ETA: If you buy your tickets from an off-site retailer than Disney will not know you have tickets and you can still use them in the FP machine. If you have a package though, you get no choice in the matter. Well, maybe you'll get a choice between a card and a bracelet.

Here is the post I made the other day on the technical aspects of the magic band (privacy, security, etc).

My thoughts so far (haven't finished the entire thread yet). We are here now. I have had to enter my PIN on purchases as low as $2. This varies by store. The app is really slow in the parks right now. It is annoying. We tried to make dining reservations yesterday and the dining part of the app was down so we could not make Epcot lunch res while in MK for the morning. They need to fix the website and apps if this is really going to work.

Edit. My other concern. If everything is smartphone based, and you do not go back to your room to rest or play at the pool, then you may have battery issues. I did yesterday when my phone died at 5pm. They need charging stations or something.

so how will it know its the person it suppose to belong too when scanned?

If you read a few more posts down you'll see that the finger scanners will apparently remain. That being said, they could do it just like DCL does. Swipe the bracelet and your face shows up on their screen.

Every purchase over $50, as I understand it.

It should be noted that lost magic bands can apparently be killed easily by CMs or by the owner via the smartphone app.

They changed this to every purchase like on Wednesday

Its a confusing time. Until we get real information I know I am a little anxious about my upcoming trip. i just dont quite know what what to expect from magic bands. No one wants to miss out on something, and I feel a huge pressure to keep on top of these changes because I am the "voluntold planner" for my whole group. They were all on the fence with the idea of wristbands. I just like the idea they won't get demagnetized like my KTTW card always does.

Agreed. I will be interested to see the word of mouth reports this year as the system is implemented. Hard to know if this is obnoxious as it sounds. I'm just not seeing how this benefits me more than the old FP/KTTW withou some really obnoxious tradeoffs just to benefit the bean counters. Well, the tip isn't included in the DDP anymore either.

i never read all the posts,,,would take forever
