The Disney Dog Collar (MagicBand)

So, basically, you have never done an all inclusive trip. Where you are required to were a resort ID band the entire length of your trip. So the resort knows you are a paying customer, and you don't get declined from services. This is basically the same thing, except, your CC info isn't on that. Certain amusement parks do this. And yes, all in the warm weather. This is not a new concept. I don't get why people 'wouldn't like it'. Talk about easy.

We have not done an AI, specifically due to the bracelet issue.

And you need to enter your PIN for every purchase

Every purchase over $50, as I understand it.

It should be noted that lost magic bands can apparently be killed easily by CMs or by the owner via the smartphone app.

Do we know if the magicbands are more like a watch or are they more like the livestrong bracelets?

I think they are cute and don't look uncomfortable at all. If they are only issued to resort guest and AP holders and you are dying to have one then stay on site. ...
The magic bands are available to all guests. They are only given 'free' to resort guests, passholders, and photo package purchasers.

I'm lost on this. You have to pay extra for MyMagic+? I can't find anything on the official WDW website. We have a trip on March 1. Will this be available to us? Do we have to be selected? Where is the info on who/when/how? Mostly I just want to lock in my fastpasses in advance if I am able.

in terms of wristband vs. Something else: get a grip people! Yes, the bracelet looks big and bulky and might be distracting in your vacation photos, so just put it in your bag or pocket. I'm not crazy about these things either, but thats what they have. This is not a crisis. Why on earth would Disney further complicate the issue by offering alternatives?! (I can just see the dozens of disboard threads for people trying to decide if they should go with RFID hats, bracelets, cards etc.) Talk about a firstworld problem.

So the tradeoff of the discomfort and fashion ick of wearing a wristband is not so compelling.
You can always toss it in your fanny pack.

I know that people either love or hate those all inclusive resorts, but I never imagined that something like a bracelet would be the deal breaker.

Everyone's different.

They aren't like those cheap silicone bracelets. They are more like a cheap watch strap.

No. If you stay offsite and want the magic band instead of an RFID-equipped ticket, you'll have to buy one. If you have the regular magic band and want a 'designer' magic band, you'll have to buy one.

The wrist band system works quite well.

We enjoy staying at a group of indoor water park / hotels called "great wolf lodge". they are awesome, no room keys and and charge everything to the account. It would be quite nice to leave everything in the room safe and just go with the band.

Also, i see Disney making a fortune on specialty bands......charicters, seasons, movies, who knows!

When I told my husband about the new bands the first thing out of his mouth was great because he loves the convenience of them at Great Wolf Lodge.

This is totally of topic but we were at GW Sandusky for New Years and had to use the key for room entry and charging and that was a first for us because at both Grapevine and Mason they were using the bands.

The one thing that I beleive everybody is missing here is that My Magic + is an "optional way" of doing Disney. Every thing that I've read and heard about it is they are not forcing you to use it if you don't want to. It does open up more Disney options however, if you do choose to use it. The paper ticket will always be there for those who want to visit on a whim, but it probably will have an RFID chip in it for park access only. I think this is a good thing coming for those who want to use it.

Exactly... if you don't like it. Don't use it!:confused3

I kind of like the idea of Cinderella knowing my princess' name. It helps maintain the illusion that it is the same Cinderella that she met previously.

The finger scans will no doubt cease to exist.

so how will it know its the person it suppose to belong too when scanned?

I first and foremost don't like wristbands for primarily the reasons Dan mentions above. These MagicBands are arguably slighlty better looking than a cheap carnival or hospital wristband - but those are designed so you can't take them off and they always must be seen. Worse, the MagicBands look heavier. Are there any videos of them being taken on and off? I sure hope they are removable. The NBC video stated they are phasing out the RFID cards. I'd much rather have a card to participate in FP+ than have a wristband. Why not offer the option? Maybe they will and NBC is misinformed and they will have an option that unobtrusively goes into a pocket or wallet.

A previous poster mentioned that the DCL does use RFID wristbands for children - but this is to ensure a level of iron clad safety to make sure the kids are not allowed to leave the clubs on their own or with the wrong adult. The purpose these wristbands and the tradeoffs of comfort and style for safety are different.

A few hours of market surveys would tell Disney that wristbands would be polarizing compared viable alternatives that would make FP+ work just fine. But they are pushing big wristbands. I'm sure a few people would love them. Some people like to weare their KTTW on lanyards too. I like mine in my wallet. If Disney is offering a bunch of designer wristbands -then they could offer *and promote* something that wasn't a wristbands. But they are promoting only wristbands. Why?

Yeah, we're on the same page here. I absolutely see the convenience factor of just being able to hold your wrist up to a device to enter the park, enter an attaction etc, but the fact is, I don't want to wear a wristband all day. ...and if I don't want to wear it, where do I put something bulky like that (even folded flat)

Regarding others' comments about the wristbands at Great Wolf Lodge, I can't stand them there either, but it's a necessary thing if we go. I love when we leave and I can finally cut that dang thing off my wrist.

But standing in line in a kiosk behind some other guest fumbling with the menus might be really long compared to a traditional FP machine (though traditional FP will not be available to FP+ people).

This was exactly my thought too. We don't use smartphones (resisting as long as I can) so the kiosk would be our route and I can see getting stuck behind a bunch of people who don't know how to use the system... I'm just assuming though, we'll have to see how it works in practice before I give my opinion.

Aren't they going to replace your KTTW card? If so, how is that optional? You'll need them to get into the parks, your room, etc... unless I'm mistaken. :confused3

They can provide an RFID card that is enabled to only function as a room key and park admission -- not to link into the My Disney Experience site, etc.

But if you don't want to use the FP+ would you need to use the My Disney Experience site (not trying to be rude, really wondering?)
