The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

got some sad news today, DD3 has always had some serious anxiety issues, for several years, she keeps passing out, fainting and hitting her head, she is 22 and even at WDW she would say take the GS, and she had to sit. today they finally took her serious at the Dr. many test scheduled, they are thinking something with her heart, she cannot, work (vet tech) drive or be left alone. luckily she is still living at home and we are retired, she doesn't need the income, she was supposed to leave for SLC to live with her sister upcoming January, that may be on hold. Maybe some of you HC professionals can shed some hope or guidance @teamuber and @tiggerdad
Will be glad to offer any insight to help. Passing out typically is either a circulatory or neurological cause. I treat several, at least ruling in/out neurological causes. Seizures go to top of list. MRI brain with and without contrast in someone her age, EEG, and if negative I set them up for inpatient video EEG. We usually do 30 day heart monitors too to rule out arrhythmia. Send me a PM and I'll give all help I can.

Sorry to hear this but glad you are finding help. Thoughts and prayers Dr.s can find the problem and get her whatever she needs.
Not all of us on the Dis Boards are health care professionals, but we are pretty good semi-professional helper outers.
If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask.

PS, If the situation presents itself, as we are western suburbs, if at all possible, would like to try to get together with you guys this summer camping somewhere :thumbsup2

@team bradfield I think we all understand. Scary stuff, especially when it is one of your kids. Like Michael said, those symptoms in someone her age, you have to go to circulatory or neuro. There are a few more obscure things, but heart and head is where I'd start. Given the comments about she would rather sit than hit the parks, I would lean toward circulatory/cardiac, but obviously a complete workup/eval will rule things in or out. I work at Barnes-Jewish in St Louis and Washington University Medical School. The med school is in the top 3 nationally and BJH has been ranked in the top 20 for 28 years in a row. The good news is many of the things in a young person that have been going on that long are treatable. You just have to find the right cause.

I know you aren't far. I also have friends at University of Chicago Hospitals and Loyola, although I think we are better.

Drop me a PM and I'll be happy to do anything I can.

Last night DW and I had a "second cousin twice removed" sort of WDW experience. I'll dive right in.

We went over to Starkville, MS to the campus of Mississippi State University (cowbells) to hear the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra (PRO) perform a concert of their Christmas music. You may not know the PRO name but we DIS-geeks have heard their music playing on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom. Many of the period tunes played on Main Street are PRO performances.

The Main Street music includes selections from their first two recordings, The Whistler and His Dog, and On The Boardwalk. I have many background music loops acquired over the years from the parks and of course Main Street is one of them (also the Fort and Wilderness Lodge music). I fell in love with the Main Street background music and that's how I discovered PRO. I wish I could have heard non-holiday rags but last night was focused on their Christmas CD (which has been out for a few years and I already have) and holiday program.

The lighting was a little difficult for pix last night and the programs asks for no photographs of the performance so here are some recent stock internet pix of PRO.

They are a typical, historically accurate period orchestra. Five strings, five winds, a drummer/percussionist, and the director. Many, MANY ragtime arrangements were written for an ensemble this size from the late 1880s to almost 1920. I had seen them perform once before, almost 10 years ago, when they released their The PRO FINALLY Plays 'The Entertainer' (Scott Joplin rags).

So if you're ever in the mood for a little Main Street music playing in the background, pick up one of the three CD's (or d/l the mp3's from Amazon) that I mentioned above on their website or Amazon.

PS - so the 2nd cousin twice removed means, "it wasn't Disney music but since it was PRO it reminded me of Disney and Main Street

yeah, we need to look into it, only problem for me is all the state parks are too small for me, we love fishing walleye at Shabbona, but I haven't fit in there since 3-5th wheels ago, a 28' cardinal

yeah, we need to look into it,
Just a thought. We are looking into going to Northwoods RV resort in Garden Prairie for Memorial day weekend.
We were there last year and they are doing some pretty decent upgrades.
Also have you looked at Starved Rock? Sites are huge there

DW used to work the gift shop at 16 yo at "the rock" , it was in our backyard, Oglesby IL. We spent our teenage years there, campground used to be on the river, they moved it to the cornfields around 30 years ago. No alcohol allowed, i still think im on personal suspension, come on, I cant have a beer camping? I always used a cuzzi or stayed inside,

I was going to say the same thing about Starved Rock. I'm 42 ft + a 24 ft trailer and I was backed in on a site with the trailer attached.

And there was no alcohol allowed?!? Oops.

Been working hard on my Aliner over the last year.

Replaced the radio, repaired the cassette potty door lock, screwed down the microwave that was sliding around loose in the curves, replaced the 🤬 refrigerator, and NOW getting around to replacing the memory foam mattress. More on that last point .....

Our Aliner has a design with a sofa in the back that slides/converts down into a bed. Which is the way we keep it given how much use it gets from the two of us. Travelling solo, I have slept on the sofa in the sofa config which is not a bad sleep when use need a sitting config during the day (rain, cold, etc.). But that has been rare.

The sofa cushions (seat, back) provided about 2 inches of loft and a cheap memory foam topper another 2 inches. It was just an "okay" arrangement. Not great sleep but okay sleep.

I learned many years ago from backpacking and camping with the Boy Scouts not to skimp on the sleep mattress. It's sort of like climbing Everest: you die a little bit every time you sleep above a certain altitude. All those nights over 10,000 ft elevation kept me moving up to the next plush camping mattress. So for the Aliner, selecting a new mattress (memory foam) meant moving up to a better solution.

The cushions in the back of the sofa are fabric/cloth and held up okay but the seat cushion was covered in some sort of vinyl fabric and was starting to flake off when it wrinkled/crinkled/laid on (7 yrs old). So I plan to pull the sofa cushions out of the trailer and put in a full-time memory foam mattress. Chose a 4 inch ventilated cool gel memory foam off Amazon. Opened it up tonight to let it "breathe" and "inflate" before I move it into the Aliner this weekend.

It's slowly expanding.

It's a pseudo-Queen size (60" x 80") so I will swap out the old sofa cushions and install this over this weekend in preparation for our trip to the Fort in January.

Looking forward to a better night's sleep. :cloud9:

Ed

PS - the instructions say the memory foam has to sit for about 24 hours to inflate and air out any foam smell. Haven't noticed any smell so far ......

I think you'll like that topper, Ed. Our 5er had a memory foam mattress in the bedroom. It was ok, but not great. We put a 3 inch topper on it and it made it really nice.

The new coach on the other hand has cost me. It came with a "Sleep Number" bed. We found the wireless remote and kind of laughed. It is the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on. So much so, that we went out and bought one for the house.

We're in reverse. We bought one for the house a few years back and now I'm trying to work on the comptroller to get one in the trailer. My back is so much happier after a night on the sleep number than anywhere else.
