Hey Dads... I just had to share with you all since it sure is fun to spend a little time here with everyone else and the different posts and such. It's my birthday today, :cool2: I'm not quite 40 yet, but soon enough. 38 today. My parents are in town (arrived Tues night and haven't seen them in about 18 months...they live in Oregon and we aren't able to get together too often) and my brother is here too (arrived Thurs night - he lives in So. Cal, so I get to see him more often since I'm out there on business 3-4x per year) and together all of the guys, dad, bro, me and my two boys are headed out to play Laser Tag for a couple of hours this morning. This is the first time we've all been together for any birthday in the family since my 30th when DW surprised me with a big bash. We talked together about a family trip to WDW for 2010 and they all said yes... that will our first time trying that out... we've never taken a multi-generational trip before, so that will be interesting I'm sure, but hopefully it will turn out well... and today we're down to 19 days more til our next trip to the World!!!! :cool1: Can't wait to ride Old Band Aid, the Doombuggies, watch Stacy on resort TV, get a Kaki Gori shaved ice in Japan, zip past the Yeti, and stay in my home resort of Animal Kingdom Villas and watch those giraffes and zebras on the savannah... :thumbsup2

It's funny how as grown ups so often we say days like this are "no big deal", or "just another day", or "kid's stuff"... but I must admit I'm looking forward to the spoiling of the day. pirate: To be "it" for a while is kind of cool. The whispering leading up to it always makes me smile. Last night my 4 yr old DD could barely contain herself and almost gave away some secret when I was kissing her good night, but quickly stopped herself in a whirl of giggles. And the "knowing" glances each of the 3 kids have been throwing at each other whenever Saturday came up in conversation this week. And it's especially cool having my birth family here. We were up late last night playing games, talking and laughing and just having a great time.

Oops, I hear movement upstairs now, so I'd better run - but I just wanted to
wish you all a great day, and an awesome weekend!

:bday: party:

Happy belated birthday stopher1!

We were at the world this summer between mine, and my two oldest DSs birthdays, which was really great. They issued us all birthday badges when they saw the dates on our driver's licenses while issuing our annual passes.

It was really special hearing the constant "happy birthday's" from all the CMs, even though I quit celebrating my birthday 16 years ago when my middle DS was born on my birthday. I let him have it after that, and I am now perpetually 33!

Still, as you said, it is kinda nice to have that one special day when you are recognized. Hope you had a great one, but based on everyone you had there to help you celebrate, I'm sure it was!

Have a great birthday Stopher!! There is nothing better than having your family with you. Many of us on these boards are very blessed with our families and our connections with them. It is only 27 Days until my family including mom, dad, 2 bros, sister, 2 sister inlaws, wife, daughter, 2 nices and one nephew visit Disney World!!!!!

Happy Birthday!!!! :clown: :woohoo: :cool1:

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Wednesday we reserved a two bedroom @ SSR for my 40th birthday next June (Hoping to switch to a Treehouse Villa on Feb. 1):woohoo: :woohoo:

Happy Birthday Stopher! Hope you had a great one. I'll be having my 38th in just a week and a half!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STOPHER!!! im leavin tuesday am, wont be home till late on the 18th! let us know how laser tag went. :thumbsup2

Thanks guys. It was a great day. Laser Tag was awesome, the spoiling was great, and time with family has been terrific. I dropped my brother off at the airport last night since he could only come for a few days, but it was better than nothing. He's moving to Hawaii in about a month-6 weeks (been in the works for about a year and it finally has come together), so it was important to him to come even if only for a few days. We had a great family photo session and got some nice pix taken that certainly won't be possible again for a long, long time. The kids have been getting their grandparents pumped about going to WDW with us - so much so, in fact, that their grandpa actually said last night to my middle son, "I wish it could be sooner than Jan. 2010...") ha - I just chuckled at that one when I heard it.

Now about the Laser Tag dvczerfs - it was awesome! My sons and I went a few weeks back for a Boy Scout outing and had a wonderful, fun time - but the place was pretty full. It's a 40K sf facility, with two levels, connected by numerous ramps here and there. Lots of black light, and a wild maze structure. Normally there's almost always a birthday party going on, and they join various groups together to create large teams. This time it was literally JUST THE 5 OF US for both of our 40 min. sessions. No one was there until we came out of the last round (3 in each session) so we had both the tag playground and the arcade all to ourselves. So instead of the traditional capture the flag type of game, it was more of a free for all. It was actually pretty quite cool. We "teamed up" with my brother and I against the boys and their grandpa, and just had a blast. Frank, my stepdad told my mom he wished they had a place like that in Oregon where they live! :cool2: I figured he'd have fun, but didn't know he'd have that much fun... it was great.

well, im leavin in the mornin!! we are at okw but ill make sure we take old band aide for a spin over to epcot.(just to make sure they havent used any air freshners in it:lmao: ) ill probley log on tonight just to check but im sure there will be a line for the computer. if i dont talk to you, ill see you in 2 weeks!! :thumbsup2

Happy belated birthday! :wizard:
Glad to hear you were able to enjoy some good quality family time with those you rarely get to see. Makes the moment even more enjoyable ;)
You brought a big smile to my face talking about the kids :) I don't think my DD would have been able to keep the secret. One attack by the tickle monster would have done 'er in! :lmao:

Now for the not-so-good news of the day :sad2: OK... it's not THAT sad... but I talked it over with DW and we decided that we're not going to WDW this Dec.

BUT :rolleyes1 we are making plans for next year's Christmas! :goodvibes Time to start planning!

So here's where you guys come in. Any tips on how I can start a winning conversation? :scared:

My suggestion would be to have a serious conversation with her, explaining how important Disney is to you. Start out by acknowledging that she wants to do "other" things for vacation and suggest a possible compromise (can you handle every-other-year at disney?). My wife loves to go on cruises...she would go every year if it were only up to her. I like cruises, but not every year. So we compromise and alternate. Like everything else in marriage...compromise is the name of the game!

BTW, I concur with whoever said promising a massage at one of the resorts should also help your case!

stopher,

Thanks for the welcome, and happy birthday. I have to give a big :thumbsup2 to laser tag.

Emma's Dad,

Thanks for the welcome, and the official adding to the list.

On Sunday morning my wife asked me to put a couple of Mickey and Minnie (of course) Jibbitz onto my daughter's Crocs. Well, the only problem is, she's about 1 1/2 and has the little infant sized Crocs. The Jibbitz are for adult sized ones. Needless to say, I had to make some "modifications" to the Jibbitz to get them to work. Anyway, the point of my story is I have a new qualification for the list.

If you understand this sentence, "I just spent fifteen minutes trying to put Mickey and Minnie Jibbitz onto my daughter's Crocs." I think you qualify for the club.

PROUD DIS DAD ALERT-

We went to meet the teacher night at my DD8 school the other night. She's in 3rd grade. The teacher had the students fill out a test during the day that the parents had to try to match the answers that night.
Here are my DD answers to 2 of the questions-
1. My favorite food is... cheese danish (on Main St.) (I actually said mini corn dogs at Casey's, which is the truth whether she admits it or not)
8. The best time I ever had was... going to Disney World for the first time!!!

Sometimes you just can't make this stuff up!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I'M SOOOOOO PROUD!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

58 days 'til Christmastime at my Happy Place!!!

Well gents I might, just might, be able to add a ticker onto my signature!!!

DW has just given the nod of approval to a "possible" trip to DL in December with our little guy! He'll only be 4.5 months old by then but I think it will be so nice for us to escape for a little while. Things have been pretty crazy since he was born and I think it'd be so neat for him to spend his first Christmas (well...almost) at one of the world's happiest places. This trip will DEFINATELY be a different type of trip than our last two to WDW but I think it will be so much fun!

Have any of you dads taken a baby on a vacation like this before?

When my DD came along, we were already settled in Indiana for a couple of years. My eldest son was born in CA, so he was at Disneyland ALL the time...starting at about a month, but only for a day here or there... my 2nd son was born in Michigan, but still at DL quite a bit but his first trip there wasn't until he was about 8 mos old. My DD however, born in Indiana - was at Disney's California Adventure and Disneyland while on vacation at 6 weeks old. Then her first trip to WDW was at just after 12 mos or so, if I'm remembering correctly...

sure it'll be different for you - but just think of the awesome photos you can get with the characters!! Those truly are once in a lifetime kinds of shots.

Hey Dads!!!

We are enjoying the week in the world. very low crowds this week. We did the MNSSHP lastnight. tomorrow is Hollywood Studios for DS first ride on Tower of Terror!!! I cant wait to see his face!!! When he road Space Moutain the other day for the first time he screamed is three year old head off the entire way. It was priceless....I was so proud ha ha. All he could say after we got off was..."Let's do dat adain!!! So, we road it 5 times. Thank goodness for low crowds ha ha...we walked right on each time.

Steve
:yay:

Where do I sign-up....

My dog is named Epcot, I have a Mickey lamp on my desk, I've actually had Disney cookies shipped to me and I'm seriously considering a Mickey Mouse tattoo...I feel like I'm home.

Starting to go into pre-trip frenzy mode....just getting psyched for our trip next week.
