So we are still in Orlando today, we took a day off from park hopping just to give my "old bones" a break. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I had no trouble with gas yet, most of the problem seems to be on the west side of the states affected by the storms :confused3 :confused3 I-95 corridor was all good:thumbsup2 is this a business trip, or fun run?

Hi dads...I found a fun and games site they we can really have alot of fun togerther in realtime chatting while playing the games....please pm me your email address and I will send you a direct link from the website...thanks so much its really alot of fun....my daughter and I play together with some other friends...thought you guys would like it to join too....its free.

Oh, that's an easy one. "Honey, we're going to go to WDW for vacation just before Christmas. Well, either we are, or I am, it's your choice."

You know... I actually thought about using this approach... and probably would have tried it if we hadn't just been there in April. Thanks, awaldo :thumbsup2

Not sure if this will help with the blues or not but a friend on the other site shared this link and I'm not sure if any of you have been made aware or not. It's all Disney music...great for background tunes as you whistle away your day. Check it out... http://www.subsonicradio.com/ Makes me feel like I'm in the world 24/7!!

Thanks for the info mkm. Too bad I can't get to this at work... actually, my coworkers would probably be glad that it is blocked

Tell her you've already booked a massage for her at Saratoga Springs (or Grand Floridian). That should help to sweeten the pot.

That reminds me of a small conversation DW and I had shortly after our April trip. She said "if we ever go back, I want to stay at the GF." I only wish I were financially able to do that. However, I just might be able to swing the SS massage. That would definitely sweeten the pot for her. Thanks for the tip :thumbsup2

I had the blues too this past January and it took me a few weeks to get back on the boards. It really is a strange experience to go from an emotional high to such extreme emotional lows. Knowing that I'll get back one day soon helps out some.

Before you present the trip to your wife do your homework! My wife likes to know that the Disney trip is not just planned around the interest of my son and I. She has to feel included in the plans or she will feel like she is just a tag along. Find at least three things that would interest your wife and include them in your presentation. Examples would be shopping, spa treatments, dinning at a restaurant that features her favorite foods, planned mommy & daddy alone time, a romantic disney fireworks cruise, etc. You can go to Disney and make your wife feel like the trip is all about HER. :cool2: Also, try to get your wife to help out with MOST of the plans and see how excited she becomes about the Disney Trip. It will help build her anticipation knowing that she is going on a trip to do things that are of her interest and that she helped plan.

I agree. This trip would be quite a short one (prob 4 day/3 night). This past trip she let me know that she was not interested in planning any part of the trip. BUT... I have a feeling that since it's fresh in her mind, she would want to have a say in things. Another good tip... thanks!

sorry emma dads, i dont have any tips for you. that was the first question i asked (even before would you like to go out some time) theres just some things in life that are a givin, tax's, death and yearly trips to the world. good luck, we are all behind you!!!

I knew I should have asked her THE question before the marriage proposal :rotfl2: If only I could turn back time (OK... great... now I have Cher in my head  )

First, to the poster that suggested the spa @ SSR- good call. My wife goes there once just about every trip and LOVES IT!!! Second, we go every year the second week of Dec. because of all the Christmas decorations & special events. So..... My suggestion is to focus on the Christmas aspect of the trip. NOBODY does Christmas like Disney!!!! Everything at Disney is decorated for Christmas, and it is beautiful!!! Find some youtube video of the Osborne lights at the Studios, and some pics of the decorations at the hotels and parks. If that doesn't convince her... call me and I'll go with ya! Seriously, anyone I've ever talked to who has gone to Disney at Christmastime wants to go every year. It is truly AMAZING!!!!

The holiday experience is definitely what I am looking for in this trip. Great tip on the YouTube videos. There are times at night when I've got the laptop on the sofa and she sneaks peeks at what I'm viewing.

Emma's Dad I got 2 words for you .

Peppermint Pedicure. My Wife loved it for our DEC trip in 05 or 06 . SSr did a great job

The Holidays are something I think everyone should do at least once and a good offer is just whats needed.

We like the halloween and MNSSHP a bit better but don't regret the Dec trip one bit.

Also for that time your looking at I thought it was very nice crowd wise then we went from the 18th-23rd the year we went.

If we don't get to go this holiday season, I'm definitely putting my foot down for next year :rolleyes1
I was wondering what the crowd is like at that part of the month. I would think it's somewhat light since they offered free dining that week. I certainly hope I get the chance to find out ;)

Try what I do. First book the trip Then look for clips on U-Tube. You should be able to see a few with the castle lighting, Epcot lights, Osborne lights, Mickey's Christmas part and so on. Then tell her about the special offer. Then ask her if it's stupid to go at Christmas. If she says yes go without her if she says no it's not stupid tell her you booked the trip. Good luck.

I definitely need to get the YouTube thing going. Not sure about the booking part yet. Thanks for the tip :thumbsup2

Wow, that is tough. Definitely turning it around and into a celebration of her is a good thought as the other guys have said... are there any activities that she would just get pumped about? In my house, my wife turned down the spa thing when I offered it to her a few months back...but is all jazzed up and really wants to try the parasailing over Bay Lake. She did that in Hawaii as a teenager, and just really wants to try it again. She also thinks an afternoon of bass fishing would be cool. Both are things we plan to try, and at least one of them will be on our 15th anniversary trip next February when we go sans kids... what about researching the various tour options and if there's one that just hands down appeals to her interests, book one. Good luck brother - here's some pixiedust: to hopefully help inspire you

Dude... you're wife is cool... "She also thinks an afternoon of bass fishing would be cool". Wow... I just had an entire daydream how that afternoon would go with my wife. It included visions of her saying, "why do you keep telling me to be quiet?" :rotfl2:
I agree... definitely need to find some things she would be interesting in doing. And thanks for the PD :thumbsup2

First answer: If you are crazy you are in some really great company here!!
:woohoo:

Onward, I agree with every one here try making this trip more her than you. I don't know how much vacation you get, or how the $$$$ works for you, but when I asked my wife she suggested that you plan 2 trips a year or every other trip 1 her way the next your way? then if all else fails.......

use the kids....."but honey the kids want to see Disney all done up for Christmas"........."How can we not give the kids a great vacation"......."ssssshhhhh, kids tell your Mom you will just die if you can't get to Disney this year!!!! :rotfl2:

GOOD LUCK

I'll definitely have the vacation time, but the finances would be tight. Really, it's the money that is holding me back from just going ahead and making the reservations. Well... that and the fact that I would need to pull my DD from Kindergarten for a couple days.

Thanks to everyone who gave the awesome tips. Now I need to go formulate my battle plan, saddle up and go ride into town to see the sheriff. I'll keep you guys informed of the outcome. You guys rock pirate:

Well... that and the fact that I would need to pull my DD from Kindergarten for a couple days.

Don't worry about pulling her out of school. We've pulled our DD out of school since she was in Kindergarten & even the teachers feel that she'll learn more at WDW than the week of school she's missing.:teacher: :thumbsup2 This year the teacher isn't even sending ANY work with her, even though we requested it. :confused3 (homework keeps 'em quiet on the plane):rotfl2: :rotfl2:

GOOD LUCK!!!

There's a valid reason to be reserved...but pulling your DD from Kindergarten? - Dude... that's honestly no big deal. I'd say it was a big deal if she were in an upper high school grade, perhaps, but not the lower grades or beginning grades. Especially just for a couple of days. Pulling for a week or more, maybe, but not just a couple. FAMILY TIME is just as important socially as being integrated with peers her own age. And yes, she can learn as much as or more at WDW than working on a few worksheets, coloring and computer time. There's definitely more to be learned in life outside the classroom than the stuff that fills the days of our typical K-6 school days provide. pirate:

I could not have said it better myself. I know things have changed since I have been in kindergarten but I remember naps, snacks, paste, coloring and working on my letters and numbers. In my life time I have had plenty of time to practice all the above. Go have some fun with her. It will only get more difficult as she gets older and is involved in more activities.:thumbsup2

Hey fellas,

I'd like to join in the fun. I've been trying to catch up over the last several days.

Emma's Dad,
My suggestion would be to start off the conversation with "Honey, have you gotten me a Christmas present yet? No? Good, cause I know what I want." My wife is the same way. Not that big of a fan. I'm currently trying to convince her into doing a week in Sept 09. I think I've just about got her.

All the other guys had a good idea with doing something she would like. If she likes shopping there are a lot of outlets in the Orlando area. In fact I think I saw a number of new outlets are opening at the Prime Outlets this November. Well, good luck to you.

Ben

Hey Ben - WELCOME!!

Hey Dads... I just had to share with you all since it sure is fun to spend a little time here with everyone else and the different posts and such. It's my birthday today, :cool2: I'm not quite 40 yet, but soon enough. 38 today. My parents are in town (arrived Tues night and haven't seen them in about 18 months...they live in Oregon and we aren't able to get together too often) and my brother is here too (arrived Thurs night - he lives in So. Cal, so I get to see him more often since I'm out there on business 3-4x per year) and together all of the guys, dad, bro, me and my two boys are headed out to play Laser Tag for a couple of hours this morning. This is the first time we've all been together for any birthday in the family since my 30th when DW surprised me with a big bash. We talked together about a family trip to WDW for 2010 and they all said yes... that will our first time trying that out... we've never taken a multi-generational trip before, so that will be interesting I'm sure, but hopefully it will turn out well... and today we're down to 19 days more til our next trip to the World!!!! :cool1: Can't wait to ride Old Band Aid, the Doombuggies, watch Stacy on resort TV, get a Kaki Gori shaved ice in Japan, zip past the Yeti, and stay in my home resort of Animal Kingdom Villas and watch those giraffes and zebras on the savannah... :thumbsup2

It's funny how as grown ups so often we say days like this are "no big deal", or "just another day", or "kid's stuff"... but I must admit I'm looking forward to the spoiling of the day. pirate: To be "it" for a while is kind of cool. The whispering leading up to it always makes me smile. Last night my 4 yr old DD could barely contain herself and almost gave away some secret when I was kissing her good night, but quickly stopped herself in a whirl of giggles. And the "knowing" glances each of the 3 kids have been throwing at each other whenever Saturday came up in conversation this week. And it's especially cool having my birth family here. We were up late last night playing games, talking and laughing and just having a great time.

Oops, I hear movement upstairs now, so I'd better run - but I just wanted to
wish you all a great day, and an awesome weekend!

You know, you make a good point. Ever since my daughter was born, 14 years ago, I have always treated and well demanded that my birthday is just another day. Mainly due to the fact I did not want them go out and spend money or put themselves out for me. But you make a good point it is nice to have a day when I can be the focus of attention. Kind of King for a day treatment. Since I just turned 38 in July I will have to wait until next year, but I will make it a point to enjoy my birthday.

Oh, by the way have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
