DW's main thing at this point is that she wants to try a stay at the Grand Floridian. But I'm not sure DD(6) would like GF as much as Poly. To DW, its important that we stay at one of the monorail resorts and be able to hop a ride to MK this time. What are your thoughts? Poly or GF?

I think if DW would prefer the GF, then I'd go there. My thought is throw her a bone this trip and the next time maybe she throws you one.

And, I think your DD6 will love the GF.

DW and DD6 could have some "ladies time" and do the High Tea together in the Garden View Tea Room. Or, how about letting your DD6 go to the Wonderland Tea Party while you and DW have a spa treatment?

Not to mention, on site you have 1900 Park Fare's Supercalifragalistic Character BF with Mary Poppins, Alice, and the Mad Hatter and Cinderella's Gala Feast hosted by Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine, and Anastasia and Drisella. I think both are great choices for a DD6.

I'm going in May too, but this trip will be "boys only" with my DS4. We'll be staying at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge May 16-23 and I'm thinking about hosting a DIS Meet during that time frame. Maybe put DS in the "cubs den" for the evening and maybe an ESPN meet, or a family "Dole Whip Meet at MK". I'll post more information if anyone is interested once the May park hours are announced by Disney.

Good luck with the trip planning. Of course, either hotel decision is great. It's WDW!!!

Hadn't thought about the extra curricula activities for DD. That's a good way to put it. I'm pretty much thinking that either is going to work and I'd rather have DW enjoy the trip any way she wants this time. Anything to get the Disney pixie dust stirred up :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR, Everyone!!

Happy New Year to all the great DIS Dads out there!

Have a safe and happy new year with hopefully lots of magic.

Happy New Year!!!!!!!

To all my fellow DIS Dads out there! Coming to you LIVE from AKV. We stayed off-site the past couple of nights and checked in here this afternoon. We have a 2BR Savanna view and there were a lot of different animals outside our room just after we arrived. We are on the Sunset Savanna, so I was a little worried about the view based on other reports, but our room actually faces towards the front of the resort....Lobby area to the left and can just barely see part of the new Kidani construction to the right. It is looking pretty good.

We got here late Tuesday night, a little more than an hour behind schedule. There was a wreck on the turnpike a couple of miles after the first toll booth. I almost got off one exit earlier and didn't do it. I was kicking myself after that. We were sitting totally still on the turnpike with people standing outside their cars. We were painfully close to an "official use only" turnaround, and when a few cars decided to use it, we finally got close enough to use it also. I had to go back through the toll booth, then six miles further before I could come back to the exit I almost took more than an hour earlier. We just made it back in time as the traffic backed up to that exit, one mile before the toll booth, right after we got off.

We got to DHS about an hour and a half after I had hoped, but it was a great park to choose as most people were leaving when we got there, following the early Fantasmic. We were able to do Indiana Jones, Star Tours, the 8:00 showing of Fantasmic, and enjoy the Osborne Family Festival of Lights. Wednesday was Animal Kingdom; that was really a good choice for us since we weren't planning to fight the New Year's crowds. We did pretty much everything we wanted with little waits except a couple of shows (we used lots of fastpasses). Today we were back at DHS to do the things we didn't do the first night. Tomorrow we are heading to rope drop at MK, and hopefully the same thing for Epcot on Saturday.

DS11's best friend that came with us for his first trip is having a great time. He is looking forward to Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion tomorrow. His first ride on Rock'n Rollercoaster had him a little shocked early on since he wasn't expecting that quick take off and I think it hurt his neck a little. He was fine later on and was ready to tackle it again. He was better prepared after doing it once already and really enjoyed it that next time.

Will try to update more later.

Sounds like you guys are having fun, Marvali! Sorry to hear about the travel delay. That can take a little joy out of the trip. Hope the rest of the trip goes well for you! :thumbsup2

Go with GF and make your wife happy. It should pay you back dividends in the future!

Happy New Year and have fun!

What's interesting is the more I've been talking about Poly and the volcano pool, the more she is re-thinking... maybe a Poly visit anyway ;) For me, I am not being picky about WHERE we stay... as long as I get to STAY :goodvibes

And I just read your signature... 46 times and counting?? WOW :worship:

Everyone must be busy catching up with work after the holidays :scared: I'm all caught up now, so I'm trolling the DIS boards. I have to say... this is my favorite thread. You guys rock :thumbsup2

So I'm getting ready to go through some life-changing events over the next few months. For starters, my MIL is selling her condo. She's retirement age, and she's finding it harder each week to keep it all by herself. That being said... once the condo is sold, she is moving in with me, DW and DD. We have the extra room for her, but it's not enough room for the long run. Soooooo..... that means we are in process of putting in a MIL suite on the house (about 600 square foot).

I've never been through this type of construction before. Actually, I'm used to doing construction on my own (die-hard DIY). But there's no way I'd be able to put in a two story addition on my own. I'm having a hard time digesting the cost of the addition... and the thought of someone else doing the work. Most of the cost will be covered by the proceeds from the condo. The rest will be through a cash-out refinance of our house.

So I'm curious... anyone else go through a major addition to their house? Was it painful???

I think that I have finally caught up as of lunchtime. Prepping for one more business trip before the fun begins. :woohoo: I just hope that I don't get snowed in in Canada before I can get home.:scared:

We seem to have something in common as "die-hard DIYer's". While I have done allot of interior remodeling and additions, I have never had to do the major add-on. We have plans of adding a two story attached garage one of these days when the cash flow is better. Be sure to post updates on the progress of the add-on as it moves along. I like to learn from other people's accomplishments.

Good luck with the MIL moving in and the building project!

I'm sure you will have a great trip with no problems :)

Thanks for the luck :thumbsup2 I'll be sure to provide some visual updates as we go. At this point, we've seen the preliminary floor plans, but we haven't given the go-ahead (or $). Can't start until the condo sells... who knows how long that will take in today's market :confused3

I'm just starting out as a "die-hard DIYer" and enjoy parts of it but absolutely LOATHE other parts. Painting is evil! I'm about 99.9% done finishing my basement and all I have left is to paint two doors, their trim, and re-install a hand rail. Painting doors sucks. It takes forever.

I can't imagine trying to do an addition, let alone a two-story addition. Having the MIL living with us, not so bad...having my mother live with us...challenging.

Best of luck with the addition and the new addition to your family ;)

Ugggg... painting. I spent 9 years in the Navy... so I'm pretty much over painting. But I do it because it makes things look pretty :rotfl:
So you must have been doing a lot of drywall work... how did you like that? It's the sanding part that I dislike so much... and corners... oh how I dislike mudding an inside corner :headache: We need to see some pics!

Thanks! My MIL is cool. She's good to have around when my DW is acting up, because MIL sticks up for me :yay: She stayed with us during our WDW visit last year.

good luck, planning and keeping changes to a min. is your best bet. changes it what will kill the budget and your time frame. if you need help on sizing your heat and a/c, i can give you an idea. (thats what i do for a living) i would have to change some factors because im in the northeast and your a tad south of me. now the 46 times, my older brother was stationed at homestead afb when i was 8 years old and my parents didnt like the jersey shore for vacation so we would kill two birds with one stone, visit my bro and go to wdw at the same time.that went on till 80 and by that time, my father was hooked.tes, the 6-4 280lb ex marine loved wdw!when i got married in 85, i got my dw hooked and the rest is history. (big ice storm this am, cant go to work yet!)

A belated HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all!

Hey guys - it's been a while since I was last on - lots going on over the holidays, and my middle son just turned 10 on Wednesday. I was up late last night getting his cake ready for his party tonight, which will be an overnighter with 3 of his friends, starting pretty much right after I get home from work today... oh boy! I've done both of my boys' cake for the past 4 or 5 years... this year the theme was Indiana Jones. I'll try to upload a photo or two after the party. Last year the theme was Spiderman, and the 2 or 3 years before that was Star Wars. DW did the cakes when they were little guys, but when it got to the cooler themes, I took over. Anyway - I hope you all have had a good start to 2009. I learned last week that a quick Florida trip for work is happening at the end of the month, so I tacked on a couple of days at WDW! Woo hoo. That's a good start to my year! Especially since DW and I are headed out west to CA and DLR the first week of February - back to back Disney. :cool1:

Have a great Friday DADS!

Well, I have about 92 of the 112. Count me in, at least now I know i'm not the only one who watches the commercials on my DVR. Or makes every family vacation Disney.(Where else is there)?

Well it's be a while since I've visited this thread. We had our trip the end of October and I didn't have the time to play on the computer much, lots going on with daughter and her Cheer Competitions and the local Lions club I'm part of, we had something going every weekend until from Thanksgiving to just before Christmas from selling Goodfellow Newspapers to delivering Christmas Baskets to the community and more. Over the Christmas Break staying home with DD I didn't even have time to spend much on the internet either. Well now that the holidays are over and I have a little more time I got the bug, I did find time to order the new Planning DVD from Disney over the holidays, then I get an email from Disney Travel last week with a PIN code for 40% off, well sent it to my TA and were now going Nov. 15-22 and staying at the GF again. For our Oct. trip we got an upgrade to Magic Kingdom view, it was so nice waking up to the boats, train whistle and the music. Counting down the days now (308 that is) til we leave. Now I have to catch up from early November with the group.

And still waiting for that DVD.

Thanks,

Joe
