A sad day at the Duck household today. We had to put our friend and pet of 14 years, Jack, to sleep. His health was drastically getting worse. The girls seem to be ok, but I am struggling with it. Before we had them, there was Jack.

Sorry to hear about this. I know how tough that can be, I hope you find some peace around your loss.

So sorry, Dave. Tough decision, but I'm sure you did it compassionately

Aaron, hang in there.

Dave, have a great trip, too!

Love Disney in the fall!

David, so sorry to hear of your loss. It's tough having to let go of a dog like that. Hang in there and think of the fact that he's no longer suffering.

Sorry to hear that. We just got a new cat this past weekend after almost 6 years since I had to put our first one down.

I am sorry for your loss. I know how you feel, about 2 years ago we had to put down our 14 year old rat terrier 'Kirbie'. She was in deteriorating health also - really bad. It was tough on all of us, so we know what y'all are going through. You need to grieve and remember the good times - it helps. I cried intermittently for several days. Don't keep those emotions bottled up, friend.

Like the old saying goes:, "It's better to have loved and lost than never have loved at all."

About a year after Kirbie left us, we decided it was time for a new dog - not to 'replace' Kirbie, but to help us heal from our loss. We ended up getting two Maltese puppies last year. It really has helped exponentially. I hope your family can eventually have another dog to love and love you back.

Here's a virtual man hug
I hope it can help in some small way.

Any of you social media (mainly Twitter) guys know what happened to the busses down here tonight?

We left befor Wishes and apparently there was a SERIOUS transportation glitch and NO busses were coming in to move people after the show. My brother got caught in a line that went from the bus stops to the park exit! No busses were showing up at all.

Apparently a melee ensued with fistfights, shoving and cursing (word is spreading)

Something has been up with the busses...one caught on fire at thr MK stop Monday, and multiple have broken down and stranded people...we saw one last night that had all the guests (about 150 of them) standing around outside it!

Don't know what's up, but something's not jiving?

I got an... interesting offer.

My mother-in-law is looking for someone to go with her to the World in February while she's at Coronado Springs for a conference. Someone to hang out with in the evenings. My DW's work schedule won't allow her to go, and DS's (8 and 6) are in school. I, however, have lots of vacation time, and my 4 year old doesn't have school.

I get along with the Mother-in-law just fine (but she does think i'm stupid. I'm okay with that). It's a $500 round trip on Southwest for the 2 of us(DS4 and I), but driving (about 1,000 miles, at 25 mpg and $4/gallon) is $350 round trip. Downside: 16 hrs driving alone. (Cause a 4 year old just doesn't keep you awake with the same type of conversation a grown up does).

I'm thinking yes to the trip...., but was looking for some reasons to say no. And, I'm kind of looking forward to driving 2,000 miles in the Mustang. They MIGHT let me drive it around the Richard Petty track, right?

I have some vacation time saved up. Is she buying the Park Hoppers and resort rooms? :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Her conference is paying for ONE room for her, that DS4 & I would be sharing with her. (Hiccup #1).
Hiccup # 2 is that I don't know for sure that I'm invited. DW just asked if I'd be interested.
Hiccup #3 is that I'm going to WDW in June of next year. So, do I buy a 10-day non-expire ticket for DS4 and I, and if so, how does that affect the package we've already reserved.:confused3

so... lots of "what if's"

I checked, and didn't see anything.

But this is convincing me that I need to see whether I can get a decent last-minute deal on a rental car for after I have to return my gov rental.

Get an annual pass instead of a 10-day non-expire. The other discounts you get will more than cover the difference in cost. Change the June ressie to a room-only reservation (because otherwise everyone has to be on the same ticket). You may even be able to get a SP discount. Then, ditch the dining plan and buy the Tables in Wonderland card instead. The 20% discount though TiW will save you more money than the dining plan will, and using that discount at counter service places (where there's no tipping) is an even bigger savings.

Just stopping by briefly to say hi guys...have not really been following the thread, just been too darn busy to log on lately.

Duck sorry to hear Jack. I honestly don't want another pet, I don't want to deal with the inevitable ending. Last year I had to have our cat Timmy put down, whom we had before the girls, and it was devestating. You ended any pain and suffering and that's what counts....

Hope to get on this weekend and get back into the swing of things. Work will be crazy from now till January, and need to mange home time better:lmao:

Good morning guys. Thank you all so very much for the warm words of support. They mean a lot :thumbsup2

The vet did a very nice job in making the situation easier for me ( I went alone ).

Dave - al dogs do go to heaven :thumbsup2

Tex - thanks for the advice. I had a presentation yesterday that I held it together for, but lost it after I got in my car.

Thanks again to everyone :grouphug:

We can surely sympathize with you. A few years back, we had our female Border Collie die of cancer at age 11. She was my DW's SAR partner for 8 1/2 years. My male BC, and my SAR partner, began going downhill early this year. In June he turned 15 and a week later we had to have him put down. He didn't like going to the vet so she came out to our vehicle and did it. I sent him off with one last "Casey, go find" command. They were both terrific dogs and neither one could ever be replaced. They both graciously gave of themselves for many years to help humans they had never met. We will be in mourning for both of them for the rest of our lives.

Dave,

Sorry to hear the news about Jack. Always tough for a family to go through. And you are right, All Dogs do go to Heaven.
