I think this season is going to be rough! When we have a tornado in Philadelphia, it's not going to be good! It was a EF 0 but that is really unusual!
I say get ready!! It's gonna be a tough one!

I don't mind a storm while I'm home (it's the only time the ocean is blue around here:lmao:) But the worst is when your on vacation:scared1: sure you still will probably do stuff, but going inside into the AC after getting soaked, I can skip, reminds me too much of work:scared1:

I am indeed... congratulations and thank you.:thumbsup2

I'll probably look at the Focus... even though it doesn't come in a diesel like the Jetta and I'm not sure what will happen if this Chevy guy drives a Ford.:lmao: What do you think of the hybrid? Worthwhile or not? I'm really not in a big hurry to do something right away, just kind of kicking the idea around at this point.

We have a 2009 Focus and it gets about 29mpg city and we average 40mpg highway miles. I highly recommend a Focus.

I have a Dodge minivan and I hate ever mile. Originally, DW wanted it, then after putting dents and scratches on doors because she can't drive, I got stuck with it. Now, the one redeeming piece is sitting off the ground. I went from truck to minivan, and not sure I could sit that low in a car.

I had a Chrysler Town & Country. Liked it for about 6 months, then started having trouble. We upgraded to a Honda Oddyssey and I love it! I usually drive the Oddyssey since I take DD to daycare in the morning and pick her up after work, and when I do drive the Focus it is a huge adjustment sitting that low to the ground after spending so much time riding high in the van.

Just saw on the news, they are predicting a busy Hurricane season for the Atlantic, this is something I don't want to hear since our next trip to WDW is in the middle of the season:scared1:

Yep. El Niña. She is a Beverly.

That wasnt a tornado, it was the Bruins ending the flyers season...:woohoo:
:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

I hear you! My wife is cold all the time! Last year in June I had to buy her hoodies and a light jacket! All because of the rain! We are used to the 12-12:10 shower:rotfl2: but the all day would not be a good thing at all! When are you leaving? August?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, I am kinda expecting the normal Florida half hour daily T storms, we have encountered them every time we went in the summer:eek:

This might be crazy but it might just work:confused3

I was looking at the metel price charts, the price of copper right now is $4.06 per pound.

Pennies before 1982 are 95% copper, it takes 145 to make a pound, also they are still pretty easy to find since nobody is really hoarding them, now if you can get a good amount of pre 1982 pennies together, I'm sure a broker would probably give you double (figure $2.90 a pound)

I've always been pretty good with this kind of stuff, I think in the upcoming years there might be a penny meltdown (just like silver and gold):confused3, but even if there isn't it will still be worth face value:teacher: No lose situation:confused3

I've read investment advice on this before. They suggest buying/exchanging cash for $25 bricks of pennies from the bank; The rational is that a certain percentage will be pre 1982 and worth 2 cents a piece, and the ones that aren't are still 1 cent (obviously). If you're willing to take the time to separate and then turn around and sell the copper ones to a buyer, their could be a profit to be made. Would take a lot of time though...

I am not a car buff, but I have a Nissan sentra and love the fact that it is still running. I'm very rough on my cars, and i've had this one for nearly 6 years, over 150k miles on it, and just had to do basic maintance, and new tires. Before this car I was going through a car every 9 months. decent on gas too. or so I say. :confused3

We've got over 200K on our 2000 Sentra GXE though we've recently put $3500 in work into it and we still have a check engine light. Now to figure out what broke this time because we need to get it to pass emissions... grr. I'd buy another car but 1) we have no credit (medical bills) and 2) we have no money because of paying down the medical and car repair bills.

Believe it or not, you can sort through a $25 brick of pennies, without looking at the dates pretty quickly.

Pre 1982 are a different color they most likely always be brown:cool1:

true, it's more that you'll have to unwrap 25 rolls of pennies, and then sort them I guess is what I was thinking. Just seems like a bit of time to make $5 - $10 bucks a brick, but maybe not. I'm all up for a quick way to make some Disney spending money!

Unless something has changed since 1996, it's illegal to melt down pennies for profit. Doing so carries with it the possibility of a 5-year prison sentence and/or a $10,000 fine.

Here's an article from back when the anti-melt rule went into effect - http://www.usatoday.com/money/2006-12-14-melting-ban-usat_x.htm

I was thinking of showing my son how to do it, over a course of a year if you keep it up, you could probably pay for a WDW trip, almost like a part time job you can do while watching TV:cool1:

Good call. That's a great idea. :goodvibes my DD loves sorting change for no real reason... Would be good to make a few bucks off of it.

Cool. We got married at our house and did keg stands at the party afterwards.
Now that is what I call a fun wedding!

No minivans for us... DW drives a Tahoe and it will stay. I've got a 2008 Silverado that spends a majority of the time in the garage and I usually drive a 1993 Chevy K1500 that I've had since I turned 16. I wrecked it a few years ago and just finished rebuilding it about a year after I bought the 08. I absolutely love my 08 Silverado, but it has that "smart engine" that shuts down 4 cylinders and it gets worse mileage than my old 2003 Silverado with the same size engine running 8 cylinders all the time. It still only gets 2-3 mpg better than my 93 that sits on 33" Baja Claws so I might as well keep the old work truck around and get something more fuel efficient for daily driving... at least that's the theory of the week.:confused3

The sticker on the V6 mustang said 31 hwy. I average 16.5 (onboard computer) for 5 miles to work, 5 miles home from work. So, I only fill up every 20 days. On the highway, the computer said i got 27 mpg (at 73 mph cruise control for 2 hrs).
Little cars with good gas mileage & power to boot:
Civic Si? $22,000 msrp, 30-32 mpg hwy, and 200 hp (top speed right at 120 I think?)

Mazda3? That's got oomph, room, and over 30 mpg's (though the rumors are they crap out at 70,000 miles)

I had my 2000 ford focus for 10 years, 6 months and 96,000 miles. So I can't talk badly about the focus.

But, I do love car talk, and car research! So keep asking questions!
Never thought about the Mazda. I don't know anybody that owns one, but I want something that I can drive a few hundred K and run into the ground. I don't intend to seriously consider anything that I haven't talked to someone who owns one. I guess that's why I'm asking for input.:thumbsup2
As far as the Mustang goes... well kind of like the Camaro, not really as roomy as I'd like to have (but definitely tons of fun).
Civic is probably near the top of my list (see proven durability).

We have a 2009 Focus and it gets about 29mpg city and we average 40mpg highway miles. I highly recommend a Focus.
Thanks for the vote of confidence in it! I definitely like those mpg numbers.

I swung through the local car dealerships this evening on my way home just to take a quick look. Ford dealership didn't have much... they had a nice looking Fusion that I liked, but it was the V6 and showed 18 mpg city on the sticker... not quite as high as I'd like. I rolled through the Chevy dealer and they had a couple of good looking used G6's and a Nissan Altima. The only other dealerships in town are either used cars or Chrysler products. Thanks for the input everyone, I appreciate it and welcome any other ideas.

Now why would that only apply to pennies & nickels and not Silver or Gold coins:confused3

As I understand it, the difference is that pennies and nickels are commonly used in commerce, while silver and gold coins - while legal tender - are not generally exchanged in commerce. Melting down gold and silver coins doesn't really have any effect on commerce. If people start melting down pennies and nickels, treasury has to strike more of them -- and they lose money on every penny and nickel they strike.

Oh well I guess you can still save them if you want, one day if there is a shortage of copper they might reverse it, since there is almost 30 years of new coins now :confused3
