DIS Dads The DIS Dad's Club VIII - The Online Mancave

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

I was thinking about that. As hard as it is to keep up with 15 pages a day on one thread, I would think it would be harder to keep up with 2 pages a day on each of 9+ threads. Conversations would cross threads, guys would miss out on topics, pandemonium in the streets, fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes. The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Ok, those last few may have if the containment grid is shut down and thousands of ghosts are released in New York City. Either way, I think our own forum would make my head spin.

:thumbsup2 Nice. +3 for another quality reference!

Oh - and yeah - you really should plan a trip out there too. Not that it will benefit me in any way, but you'll have a grand experience, and I'll enjoy knowing you've enjoyed it...and even be jealous of you for being able to be there.

Sounds like a good place for the Indiana DIS Dads meet!:rotfl::rotfl2:

Hey, I can dream... :rolleyes1

I agree. My guess is that the number of posts would also drop too. Spreading the conversations out across multiple threads would mean conversations wouldn't move as fast. If the conversations were moving slower people'd need to check in here less frequently and that would result in less posts.

:lmao:

No.

I haven't been officially employed by the Mouse for about 20 years. In fact, I've given them entirely too much money in that 20 year span - that far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far, far exceeds what they ever gave me while I was in their employ. But that's okay, really.

I just have an inordinate love for Walt's park... the one that started it all. The only one he actually walked in, ate in, slept in... the one that was the inspiration for 4 other "Magic Kingdoms" around the world... plus the other existing parks, and soon to be parks. The one that I grew up with - and truly is the Granddaddy of all theme parks. That's all.

We were planning on heading out there next September but we're gonna take my SIL and her family to WDW instead. I think my next park is going to be Tokyo.

I have to second this one. I kind’a like the wayward rambling of this little thread. Since we’re all posting here, I get to see what on everyone’s mind and also find myself reading along on topics that I may just overlook if it were a separate conversation. Hearing discussions on topics that are outside your own realm generally leads to expanded horizons (and I think Walt would have approved with that idea as well... Maybe not the mass hysteria part, but...)

No, we need a chat room as quick as this thing moves sometimes.

I agree 100%. :faint:

I agree. I LIKE that this is an ongoing, somewhat ephemeral, winding conversation. This thread is sort of like the bar in Cheers! The regulars come and go, newbies come in and are greeted. Some become regulars. You drop by when you're in the area and hang out when you can. It's the "safe refuge" for Disney-fan guys, away from the rest of the rabble. :drinking1

If there's a topic about which a poster wants broader input than is possible in this fast-moving thread, there are two good options. If you want input from "the world", post it in the appropriate forum on disboards.com. If you want feedback from "the guys", that's a perfect topic for a blog post at disdads.com.

And birthday ownage to boot!

Aaron - speaking of Disdads.com - the Polls Archive link on the right gives a dreaded 404 error.

Me too - the more I think about a separate forum - the less I like it. Sure life moves pretty fast around here, but that's okay. It just tends to happen the more you hang out with people and chat - both in the real world and the virtual world.

And I love your analogy there Aaron... so which one are you going to be? I think I'd like to be Coach... a little dimwitted, albiet nowhere as bad as Woody... but graciously kind and good - plus the name kind of fits with my wee bit of background, experience and knowledge of many things Disney.

Yeah, it's done that ever since I installed the Polls widget, and I haven't been able to figure out how to fix it. I may noodle around with it some over the weekend.

I'll dissent (just because I'm bored & no one took me up on my lunch offer!). I really enjoy the community of this thread, but having our own forum might allow us to branch out into more specialized areas. We could still have a main thread that would serve as a focal point, but we could put specialized threads related to a variety of topics on there (like zombies, or scouts, or even trip reports). I certainly wouldn't want to damage what we have here, but someday, it might be worth the risk.

Close - last to post. It's a coveted position that usually ends with us posting at the rate of 500-800 posts per hour vying for that honor.

Heck, I'm just trying to find a way to move back there. I'd be out of driving distance from the house of mouse but I'd be back home. Of course that means 1) finding a job, 2) packing our stuff, and 3) leaving everything we now have here. I think we're waiting until the kids are out of the house first.

Anytime you are ready sir we would gladly take you back!! :cool1:

I concur Mr.....errrr Doctor.

Woohoo! I'm glad to see the Colorado Council of Cool People has finally convened and heard our case! I thought it would be bouncing around for a while. They get uppity when the ruling members leave but we didn't have much of a choice when we left.

Wow - I leave for an hour for lunch (actually an hour and 15 minutes...don't tell the boss!) and I'm having to catch up on 3 pages! So much for the 12 page a day average!

If you want help, I'll be happy to play with it too. I was looking through the read me on wp-polls and it looks like there are a fair number of other people that had had this issue.

So what is the Fail Whale equivalent for a Mickey or Disdads themed 404 page?

Making your way to the World today
Takes everything you've got
Sunscreen, gas, and cheeseballs all
Sure do cost a lot

Wouldn't you like to own a page?

Sometimes you want to post

Where everybody knows your (screen) name
And they very rarely flame
You wanna post in the thread the most
But stopher1 wins that game
You want to go where everybody knows your name

You know... just thinking back over last night - and taking a look at some of my handy work... this one really set my mind in to overdrive to make it happen last night.... and knew that I would

I'll be in Indianapolis for a day or so. Where are you located?

That would be great Ryan. My php skills are mostly limited to copying and pasting code. Usually, I can comprehend what I'm reading in the code, but my ability to actually write code is about nil. I went ahead and kicked you user permissions up to Administrator, so have at it, whenever you get a chance.
