I am a man of faith, certainly....and I always thought there would be nothing that could shake it. Unfortunately, I've found myself questioning it. I just feel robbed of a man who has been so a part of shaping my life at such a young age.

Lord, please give us all the strength to overcome!

edit: It is not my intention to bring "down" this thread with the bad news...I just know you are all a bunch of genuine guys that can provide great support and it is much appreciated! Thanks.

Hang in there Scott. Try to not let yourself get discouraged. As you know life is very difficult and not fair sometimes, but God has a master plan that we do not always understand. It is hard to not question his judgement sometimes, but we must always continue to have the faith to know that He does not make mistakes. We will certainly continue to pray for you and your family and for God to give you peace and comfort.
And that is a big :thumbsup2

Well, today my son had a basketball game. I told DW that I would bypass going to the game (which I NEVER do) and instead go pick up DD at E3 day (something that our local school system put on this morning). I had seen DS's team play the team they were playing today earlier this year in a tournament and didn't like what I saw, especially from their coach and a couple of their "supporters." You talk about poorly coached and overly physical, that pretty much describes the team (they are literally the no blood, no foul kind of team, and unfortunately their coach doesn't know any other way). Well, as I'm sitting in line to pick up DD, my wife called me and said that the other team's coach AND a parent had been thrown out of the gym and that everything was pretty helter skelter at the moment. First, I'm glad that I wasn't there to see it; second, both of those folks had signed the "behavior contract" at the beginning of the season, and the contract even gave them the consequences for poor behavior at games. Sad, but I could feel it coming based on what I saw in the previous game. Yeah, DS's team won, but according to him, it wasn't a fun win and he was plenty scared when all of the crapola was going down. Not fun times at all. Hope they are banned for the duration that their kids are in the league.

Until this year we had not had any dealings with youth sports at it finest. We had always played in the younger age groups where they dont even keep score and everyone gets a turn. This year we have seen the ugly side of it all :scared1:. I was so surprised at how much worse some of the parents acted than the kids. It takes the fun out of it. I agree with you and hope that the guilty parties get suspended.
I have learned from my aunt in CA that my grandmother's surgery for her hip may not even happen, they just don't know. At this time the risk is way too high. She has suffered a heart attack, and her troponin levels need to stabalize and come back down again (not sure what that is, but ok). She remains in extreme pain, and is highly medicated. No one is sure whether or not the attack came when she fell or afterward. Sigh. Everyone out there is very sad and distressed seeing her that way because she was her jovial old self just a week ago for her birthday. I'm just very thankful that we saw her in December while we were out there.

Christopher this is never an easy position for your family to be in, and I am very sorry to hear this. When you posted last night that her enzymes were elevated I was affraid that this was going to be what you were going to post next. We will be praying for her and the whole family. You guys have got so much on your plates right now. I wish that there was more that I could do than pray!
Podcast has been edited and turned into the webmaster for final approval!!!!

I am really looking forward to hearing what you guys did! One of these days I might even like to participate!!
Our grandson has been diagnosed with Rotavirus, a virus that causes vomiting, diarrhea and, in his case, a high fever. He has been on an IV for 24 hours and has been pretty miserable. It seems like he may be turning the corner but it could still be a little too early to be sure.

Thanks, Chris! :thumbsup2

Mike, I hope that your grandson is starting to get better...:thumbsup2. I am sure that Chris had some good advice for you!!

Today has been a fun filled jam packed day and I am worn out!!! We took the kids to see Disney Princess on Ice show today. I was worried that Ethan would not like it since it was all princess stuff, but it has enough pirate and fire stuff that it held his attention too. Lauren loved it. :thumbsup2 After the show we raced back to Huntington so we could watch the basketball game. Yep MARSHALL played again at home tonight and they pulled out a win over SMU. It was an ugly game, but a win non the less. Now the kids are all tucked in and passed out! I am sure we are all going to sleep well tongiht LOL:rolleyes1

On a MUCH, MUCH, MUCH lighter note, I think that the Hoyas could use some prayers today. They're stinking up the joint against Syracuse so far today...

Georgetown always stinks up the joint!!! :rotfl2: I've spent too much time as an academic mercenary, but I always come back to root for SU no matter how many times they break my heart. They have been the ruin of many a NCAA bracket for me because I let my heart interfere with logic.

Glad Rider is maybe starting to get better! (and glad that I could help!)

Throwing down the guantlet, eh? Careful, we've still got the Big East and then the Tourney coming! But then again, I'm the same way with Georgetown, who can lose to anyone at anytime, no matter how bad that other team is (as demonstrated today!)

Its early, but I took the liberty of reserving us a NCAA bracket.

I'll post again as we get closer to Tourney Time. Maybe I can do better than the Football Pick 'Em... :confused3

Hey there guys.

First of all CRUD things have been very busy here lately. I hope to catch up on here at some point, but we'll see.

To all the Dad's out there needing some extra prayers, they're coming your ways. MiJo, Stopher, scott, please know that you can always talk / dump here and we'll take the burden off you as much as possible. :grouphug:

Podcast: I'm looking forward to this. I would have loved the following intro / exit sound sequence: "One little spark, of inspiration, is at the heart, of all creation..." followed by some grade A quality explosions, followed by Bobby Duvall's best quote ever "I love the smell of napalm in the morning... The smell, you know that gasoline smell... Smells like, victory". But that's just me. :confused3

Tourney Bracket: I'm in and signed up. Got to pick Double Dribble as my team name (courtesy of our founding character Goofy).

Travels: So I've got a few travels on the schedule for the coming months. Should be some interesting trips though:

So far I've got the following:

March 19th - Caribbean w/ family & In-Laws
Week of Apr 4 - Miami for work
June 6th - Indy for work
June 19 - July 4th (ish) - Drive to Edmonton (with stops at Rushmore, Yellowstone, etc.)
Aug 6th - Indy for GENCON (gaming convention with the kids)

Somewhere in there I think I'll probably have to squeeze in trips to NYC & Boston with possible trips to DC, Connecticut and Tulsa. :scared1: What kills me is that I've still got to actually do my job too.

If any Dads are in or are familiar with the Miami area, I'd love suggestions for places to have client meals (Lunches / Dinners). Typically upscale (I like to use steakhouses like Mortons / Capital Grille, but a weeks worth of those would be overkill even for a beefeater like me) but with good reviews and don't need a reservation 2 months in advance. I'm going to be in the Ft. Lauderdale area as well as downtown Miami so anywhere in between would work as well. I'm looking to schedule 5-7 meetings over a 3 day period so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah...I know what you mean...thought he was Mike Newell-Scopa. :lmao:

WDW Today and WDW Radio are my favorite Podcasts.

Lou Mongello does an outstanding job on WDW Radio...though they tend to run a little long.

I've tried the Dis Unplugged...but I just really don't like that one as much...even if it if "the" Disboards Podcast.
There's more than just the DIS Unplugged podcast? huh. I'll need to look to see how to download those.

We are going in May, Google says approx. 17 hrs. That seems longer than I thought. Does anyone have any tips on where to stay if you split the drive?
:confused3
When we go (STL - 15 hrs) we drive straight through overnight (mom&dad are miserable while babies sleep). However, we picked a side-of-the-interstate motel in Valdosta back in 2000, and the next day's drive was not long, and we were able to spend all night in the parks without wearing out.

Greetings all DisDads...it has been a while so I though I would check in and say hello. :wave2:

On a happy note, on Novenber 24th, I added the 4th addition to the house, little Piper :cutie:

Have a good day all!
Our 5 month old has already been to WDW. It was fun, but man, it's a LOT of work having a BABY-baby at DisneyWorld.

I am a man of faith, certainly....and I always thought there would be nothing that could shake it. Unfortunately, I've found myself questioning it. I just feel robbed of a man who has been so a part of shaping my life at such a young age.

I'm pretty sure page 1 has a MAN LAW that says you never have to apologize for "down" posts. We're all dads that love Disney, but, we're also real people that can pray whenever necessary.

My light-hearted ness: I got to Guitar Center to play some guitars. Turns out, I didn't like the sound of the Fender Stratocaster. I did like the Epiphone Les Paul, though. So, that's what I'll be cruising Craigslist for. :rockband:

If I get out that way I'll be sure to let you know. It would be great to add at least one other Dad besides Barry to my "official meetup" list. (no offense Barry).

Wow.. your list would be Barry and me? I wouldn't go around announcing that. :sad2:

DW and I were thinking about taking a short trip somewhere without the kids to celebrate our 40th birthdays (they are within a month of each other.) I was thinking WDW, of course! We have APs and our TiW we could use. But she is not sure she could go without the kids and still have a good time (she says she would feel guilty.)

Well, after all this possible planning DW says she was thinking of getting me something really nice for my birthday, but I couldn't get it if we do the trip. She told me what it was. It was this!.

So now I have to decide between the WDW birthdays couples trip at beginning of April or my first DSLR. After thinking about it a while (yes, I had to think about it), I am leaning towards the DSLR. I am starting to really get into photography and have been messing around with the manual settings on my Canon G11 P&S camera and playing with Photoshop. But a nice DSLR would be better quality shots than what I am getting now. I know we are all crazy for Disney here, but the Nikon D90 kit would be the practical choice, right?

I'm in. Actually, I was thinking of doing the same thing myself, so thanks for getting it started. Love doing the annual pick 'em.

As much as it would stink not to go to WDW, I would probably pass it up for that. The next time that you do go to WDW, you'll be amazed at the pictures you will be able to take. DW and I purchased a camera recently (it's a Nikon, but a lower $$ model) and man, the quality of pictures that come from it. But, make sure to tell your DW that yes, ya'll can go to WDW and have a great time w/o the kids. My wife and I did that a couple of years ago with the same worries that your wife has (feeling guilty, etc...), but man was it great just to go as a couple. Now, yes, we did miss the kids, but we absolutely LOVED every second of our 3 days. So, if you do get the camera, just make another time to go that includes just the 2 of you. You won't regret it. Actually, looking into my murky crystal ball, I'm actually checking out the possibility of DW and I heading down in November for a long weekend for an anniversary celebration, and based on the placement of Veteran's day (which is a mandatory school holiday for us), things look REAL good for that happening.

Hey guys

I woke up to a positive message from my cousin regarding my grandmother. At least, as positive as possible considering her situation. She was able to have her surgery last night. When he wrote, he said she'd been out of surgery for about 2 1/2 hours and was in stable condition. Woo hoo. But the doctors are still very concerned, and watching her very closely. The next 24-48 hours are critical apparently. They (the family) aren't sure what comes next, but they're all watching and waiting.

Ha! The old wooden spoon! My Mom loved to whack us with hers. Once, when my bro and I were teenagers, she came after us with it for something. We grabbed it from her and chased her around the house laughing our butts off. That spoon made some great spaghetti sauce!

:thumbsup2

Done, Scott!

Actually, our family can use some prayers. Our grandson (1 1/2 yo) started vomiting on Thursday. Yesterday, he had a 104 fever with it so off to the hospital they went, as per the doc. They gave him some fever reducing meds and nausea meds and sent him home. After a few hour nap, he had another fever and within an hour or so it was up to 105.5! Back to the hospital. We went over and they gave him 3 bags of saline water within a few hours. Still no urine (a whole day of none), only diarrhea, and the fever started to climb again. They put him in the ped unit for an overnight visit. We haven't heard anything since 11:00 PM so we're hopeful he's doing better. We'll be heading over soon.
wow, hope he is feeling better soon mike, we will be praying for him.:thumbsup2

sorry if i missed anyone. welcome new dads and new babies!!! new babies are some good news!!!:thumbsup2 hope don have the next edition if disdads ready.:thumbsup2

I wanted to get some of your opinions on a doll we are considering for our twin DD's. I know shopping isn't the manliest of subjects but I wanted opinions that strayed from considering the cuteness factor. :rolleyes1

Have any of you purchased the My Disney Girl for your daughters? If you have what are you thoughts. If you went with an alternative what one did you choose?

We are taking a quick trip in May before our trip in November for their 6th birthdays and wanted to surprise them with a doll of some kind.

Thanks for the help.

Fixed it Aaron :woohoo:

I'm in as soon as I hit "Post" on this response. It will be interesting to see what this year's Jayhawks do in the tournament. It's been a tumultuous year for these guys, but they are capable of playing some truly beautiful basketball.

BigTex - I just picked up the D90 myself. Had a D50 for a while, but the D90 blows it away. Amazon.com has a deal right now that if you buy a kit or the camera body you can get some $$ off of a Nikon Lens to go with it. I ended up doing just the camera body with the Nikon 18-200 VRII lens. I'm not disappointed!
