They should start making driveways with a heater element in them up there in the north. Flip the switch when the snow starts so it doesn't stick to the driveway. I am sure it would be expensive, but not impossible. :)

Ummmm.... actually I know a guy who has that. He owns several snow plows and is always busy with his commercial plowing service so he doesn't have time to do his own. He's putting the radiant floor heating that you'd find in a shop underneath his driveway to keep it melted off.

So first of all CRUD

OK, got that out of the way. Sorry I haven't been around lately. Things have been very busy at work lately and I've been on the road a bit, with more coming today. The nice bit is that I'm heading south for a change and will be in Miami tonight. Since I was so close (relatively at least) I thought I'd plan a drive up to WDW on Saturday. So if anyone will be in the area let me know (send me a PM) and I'll give you my cell number for a possible meet up.

I hope everyone is doing well, and welcome to the new members.

i happened to notice this morning on anouther site that the tiki room had a fire last night.:scared1: the fire was in the attick of the building and the sprinkler put it out. there was water damage but they are not saying how much as of yet.

i design and sell snow melt sysytems! we have a sysytem from uponor (wirsbo) the heat loss calculation is over 300 percent heat loss. you dig out your area you want heated. you lay a layer of insolation on the bottom and sides.(bubble wrap or 2 inch foam) lay a bed of sand about 8 inch thick, put 6 inch mesh down,(steel or plastic)start laying the tubing on 1 foot centers,no more than 150 ft per loop. lay cement over that about 8 inches, pulling the mesh up while pouring. average water temps are 150-180 degrees. we have 2 in 20 years. mario andretti and a guy that lives near him. just a note, they both have there driveways plowed!!!! alot of money to fire a 1.3 million btu oil burner to melt snow.:lmao: if anyone is intrested, pm me, id be glad to help you out with one.:thumbsup2 just a fyi, uponor (wirsbo) has that system in there parking lot in min. and they also plow there parking lot.

Hey guys,

Just dropping in to let you know I had a successful DIS Dad meet on Tuesday night. I met up with Glenn (glennbo123), in the middle of a snowstorm, no less. He mostly hangs out on the TR pages and commented extensively on mine, but is also a member of the Dads club, even if he doesn't post here much. Very cool guy, and we had an enjoyable dinner together!

Sorry for the poor focus! The hostess at the restaurant was... less than enthusiastic about taking the picture.

Very cool that you guys got to meet out in the cold.

It now appears official that the Blues will not be performing at the Andrews AFB Air Show in May. They are now listed on the Web site for the Lynchburg (VA) Air Show May 21 and 22 so we made hotel ressies for that one. We'll be going as long as our son will be there with them. He probably won't get his personal schedule until next month.
Anyone else considering going to the Lynchburg show?

Injured back update. Things seem to be getting slowly back to normal. Was very tender yesterday; it was a struggle to even put on a seat belt in the car. Significantly better today when compared to yesterday. Almost went for a run because I haven't gotten a chance to this week because of the weather, but thought better of it because I didn't want to slip on some random ice and re-injure everything. I did swim last night, though, and IMO that was one of the best things that I could have done simply because it was exercise with very little stress on the back.

Now for the crazy news around these parts: we're going to school on Saturday AND Monday (MLK). We are slowly running out of makeup days and winter still has a while to go, so our local board (as well as several other school boards in our area) have agreed that school will be in session on Saturday and Monday. I think the last time that we went to school on Saturday was maybe when I was in about the 4th or 5th grade, which would be MANY moons ago. So, it's gonna be an odd weekend to say the least, but at least we're slowly cutting the number of days we have to make up. I think that the majority of folks will send their kids on Saturday simply just to get them out of the house :lmao:

Very cool! Glad you were able to get to your meet in a snowstorm!

The DW said she'd like to plan a vacation this summer NOT do WDW (I know.... what's wrong with her?). She asked about either a long weekend in Chicago (6 hrs from stl), Destin, FL (13-ish hrs) or perhaps South Carolina (@ 15 hrs). Or perherps Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City. (4 hrs)
Enter a lunch break and access to the internet. :surfweb:

I remembered the DVC in Hilton Head! I get disney, she gets the beach!:thumbsup2 However, the price gave me cause for pause. About $3400 + or - for the week I was looking for. I thought "oh, what about renting points?" at $10 per point, the week i'm looking for is $4100 (don't judge my bad math, it's just an example to get to the next point) Then, i looked up the same week at WDW doing the Kids Stay & Play Free promotion. $2100 for ASMusic.

How do I spin this to get to go to Disney three times in 2 years? :confused3

(Destin: $1400 for the hotel for the week, Great Wolf: $1600, and I haven't priced Chicago yet.)

But the kids are 8, 6, 4, and 1 this August, so any suggestions on vacations?

Greg, I guess you should count yourself lucky to have any snow days....our wonderful now former Gov. Strickland took away all snow days for Ohio...really? Seriously??:confused3 The kids dont have a spring break now and will likely be going to school in June if the snow keeps up like it has been...uuuugh!

Mark, I am glad you guys got to meet up. Pictures of all the DisDad meets are great to see!:thumbsup2

It's official we are booked for August 21-27 All Star Movies (kids stay & play free deal, saved over $400 plus got a perfered room)

:cool1::banana::woohoo::yay::dancer:party:

Checked Googlemaps and it's only about 2.5 hrs from me so there is a good chance we'll make the trip. I hope they add some more planes.

Glad to hear the back is doing better. We've only got one make up day (Feb 22) so far, I'm surprised the Board here didn't find some way to mess that up too.
