I've been enjoying the conversation/banter on this thread, so I decided to join (#540). I'm like many of you in that I have a nutty obsession with WDW that isn't totally comprehended by my friends, so its great to hear from other guys who deal with the same thing. Don't get me wrong - my friends totally respect my obsession and some have even enjoyed time with our respective families together in WDW. It's just that when they stand in World Showcase and look around, they think "OK, that's cool". For me, it is so much more than that....

Thankfully, I have a DW and three DDs who are almost as crazy as I am, and we enjoy sharing the obsession with each other (although none of them are quite at my level;)). However, they are all ...uh...female, and they have varying levels of interest in things that I like to do or talk about re: WDW. For example, I can pretty much tell you where there are adult beverages sold in just about any part of WDW:drinking1. I also like to talk about golfing at Disney courses (so far I've been able to try the Palm and Magnolia), as well as the Disney endurance races.

In any event, glad to be part of this group, and I hope that everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

Need to vent and ask advice (all disclaimers noted!!)
So my wife calls me tears yesterday. She's been on FMLA since October, due to go back the first week in January. All proper paperwork filled out with her employer, etc. She works as a Day care provider, and has worked there for about 10 years. When she returns to work, she plans on taking our daughter with her, as we get a discount on the daycare rates, or so we thought. The original deal was 75% of the rate up to 18 months, then free after that for children of employees. Yesterday she got a call from her boss saying that the policy has changed. Whatever rate the employee is receiving is the rate that the child will receive for the entire time they're enrolled there. IE, no more Free daycare after 18months. But that's NOT the kicker. She was told that if she DOESN'T return to work on Dec 1 (4 weeks early for her leave), she will NOT even get the discount. Mind you, she's off on FMLA. I would think that she's protected from practices like this. She was offered to come back part-time for the remainder, then full time once her FMLA is up. I told her to tell them to take their discount and beverly it :lmao:. The extra $200 a month we'll have to pay isn't worth it for her to go back to work early, and besides, I think they're dead wrong on this issue and if we push it with a labor attorney, the tune might change...but I might be wrong. This place is too much agravation for an $11/hr job!!
Feel free to advise away, LOL. I'm not a legal expert but from what I've read FMLA is designed to protect workers from losing jobs and benefits, even from policies that are enacted while the worker is off on FMLA! I'm shaking my head over this one. Ugh.

I believe that the Monsters of the Midway are 7-3 right now, tied with that team in Wisconsin...

As for my choice of baseball teams, I catch a lot of grief from my friends for having the Cubs and WDW as my passions...something about living in a fantasy world?? :confused3

What they are doing is a violation of the FMLA. She is entitled to be restored to her position without loss of seniority status or benefits. A child care discount is almost certainly an employee benefit plan. Attempting to entice her to return to work early, with a threat of reduced benefits if she doesn't return, is in and of itself probably also a violation of the FMLA's prohibition against interference with an employee's FMLA rights.

I knew that one of our barristers would know the answer to that one (Thanks for the confirmation AJ). Now… Go get ‘em! :lmao:

Welcome aboard. There’s always room for more. :thumbsup2

Don’t mind the ragging about being a Cubs fan. “Smack” is just one of the services we offer ‘round here. Being a Carolinian, I don’t really have a favorite baseball team, but I actually have to respect those folks that stand up for the Cubbies. It’s a little like the difference between the chicken and the hog, IE: the chicken is involved with breakfast, but the hog is completed committed to it. Being a fan of “s-o-m-e” of the major teams really requires no more then just hopping on the bandwagon, flaunting the Cubs moniker as an avatar… Now that’s just dogged determination.

I know, we were awful in the playoffs, but it's been a while:rolleyes:

I guess I don't hate the Cubs more than the Cards, but ya know, the whole division rivalry thing. As for football, I'm a Colts fan. That used to be a hard one to admit before some guy named Peyton showed up.

Thanks, I appreciate the response. This is what I was trying to explain to my wife, and to in email to their HR guy.

Her boss responded this afternoon, and said basically that the policy change is company wide starting Dec 1. She would need to be at work with her daughter receiving the childcare Dec 1 for us to receive the discount. Again, this flies in the face of what the FMLA is designed to protect. They said they'd need to know her decision (to return part time next week or January) by the 30th. We're going to tell them she's going back in January, as per her FMLA rights. In the meantime we're talking to a lawyer friend of hers just to find out if in PA this is indeed legal. We're not talking about a lot of money, but it's the principle of the thing that gets me. Arg.

Welcome to all the new Dads........
and.......
A Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone!

Wow, that's awesome! I'd like to think my wife would at least know who he is... she goes to a few games with me every year and the name Bench shows up once or twice around the ballpark.:lmao:

in case anybody was wondering, DW got passed the first interview and will be flying out to Indianapolis Sunday night for a Monday morning 'second' interview.

On a different note, last night we had dinner at the Grand Floridian for Cinderella's Happily Ever After Dinner, and I probably ate about $150 worth of food, at least that's how it felt afterwards. The girls loved it, and I'll say it was 'ok', I prefer Cinderella's Royal Table when it comes to the Royal themed dining, so did the girls. Tomorrow, Thanksgiving, we will be celebrating inside of MK and, as the news above will lead you to believe, we will be quite Thankful for this new opportunity. We know it's not in the bag yet, but asking her to fly out there for a second interview only one day after her first interview is pretty telling.

Hope you guys have a great Thanksgiving tomorrow with your families, I know I will.

Remodeling you kitchen with a -what is she now? 6 months old? Yikes:scared1:. Although, I do have pictures of my DW, 5 months pregnant, swinging a sledge hammer at our old kitchen cabinets!

Ah, I remember the pregnancy hormones. So what did you do to make her take the sledge hammer to the cabinets? :lmao:
