Anybody else catch Stephen Strasburg's performance tonight for the Washington Nationals? Pretty impressive.

I don't think they'll be sending him back to the minors! I know it was against the Pirates, but 14ks is 14ks. I just saw the highlights. What a debut.

Good to hear your son is back playing again!!!:cool1: Hate to hear about your Daugher not making it on the cheerlearder squad. I think a trip to Disney might be just the thing to cheer her up ..no pun intended!:rotfl2:
My state: M-I-S-S-O-U-R-I
Penn & Teller's show tomorrow night on Showtime is about cheerleading. They (Penn) was talking about it on Bob & Tom Radio show this morning.

Great news! And I'm sure the mechanic will love California Grill. What? Dedicate and invite are two different things? In that case, you'd better not tell him about it, or you'll have a "accidental" grease stain in your driver's seat that won't ever come out. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

The CD changer in my van quit working a few years back, so DW got me a new aftermarket one for Christmas. After I pulled the old one and replaced it, my curiosity got the better of me and I started taking the old one apart. What did I find? A quarter, two dimes and a nickel. Hmmm... how could those have gotten in there?
and my boys wonder why they're not allowed to sit in the front seat of my car.:lmao:

I would LOVE to replace my CD changer with an aftermarket one, but the Infiniti console is a PITA. The stereo and climate control stuff is all integrated into a single panel. I don't know of any aftermarket solutions that will fit (maybe a fully custom job, but I don't want it bad enough to pay for that).

I don't think there's any change in my changer (so to speak). But I have TWICE now pulled change out of the DVD slot in my MacBook. Thing #1,357 I never thought I'd hear myself saying (but did hear myself saying to my child): "The computer is NOT a piggy bank. No putting money in the computer!"
The list of things I never thought I'd say now includes "Don't hit your brother with the Indiana Jones whip inside the house!" (Yes, barry, it is okay outside)

you pay taxes there stopher, it counts!!!!:lmao:
you pay taxes on DVC? Sucks... rethinking this plan.:confused3
Hot, windy and dusty in Iraq today....

Spent all of my morning (it's 1045 AM here right now) dealing with personnel issues...

Just now getting my coffee...now I need a break.:surfweb:

:lmao::lmao:

Hey Tim, Welcome back:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:
I'm still upset about missing Coupe du Monde. It's on DURING work, and my boss is all concerned that I'll watch instead of working. I said, "yup. so?"

Hey Kids, Does Everyone Know What Time It Is?

IT'S ADR DAY! :woohoo::woohoo:
I keep posting so I can keep checking my ticker, to see if I can call yet. i think i have 2 weeks still.:woohoo:

guilty as charged!!!! weres my 7.00 bucks so i can get out of here!!!(parking is 12.50, lunch was 15.00):lmao:
We get $12 a day for jury duty. $18 if you're on a case, and free parking!

OK, so my surprise worked great. We did not tell the girls (8,5) we were going to WDW for a Summer week vacation. We did tell them we were driving to Nashville, left the house at 7:00 PM, and kept telling them it was a long drive. Fortunately, they do not keep time well.

Some of the things I've learned on this trip:
(1) AKL Kidani is beautiful. We see a ton of animals in the Savanna view.
(2) The deluxe dining plan is way too much food. Have to re-think fall trip.
(3) The french onion soup at the Grand Floridean Cafe is AWESOME.
(4) Animal Kingdom park was great - 2 Safari rides at opening.
(5) The Dole Whip machine at Captain Cook's at the Poly is SELF SERVE, and even colder and better than Aloha Isle.

That's all for now. Unplugging to rejoin vacation. More info and pics later.
I'm anxious to hear about how much food is too much on DxDDP. We're planning aloah show and another 2 swipe something, so, i think we're still better off going Delux.

#'s 1,2,4,5,10,12,27,44-48,53,63,74,76,81,114,117,and 118.
Will have to stick with the screen name, if that's okay. Gotta be careful what you put out on the ol' internet.
Born and raised in NC and live outside of Charlotte.
Our next vacation is Oct 2-9 at AKV-Jambo w/ the dining plan. Can't wait for a ice cream sandwich at the Main Street Bakery.
I have a wonderful wife that tolerates my Disney addiction. Plus she has given me two wonderful kids. DS 8 and DD 6.

Holy cow; the wife thinks i'm a freak as i'm buying PAPs and taking 2 kids <10 to DLR solo twice over the summer, potentially three times (from NorCal), and asking her if we can go over xmas. She likes Disney, but can only handle 2 days at a shot.

But after looking through the above criteria, methinks i'm just a poseur/dad wanna-be. Esp as i'm internally terrified about the solo trips. I may have to buy 2 pairs of handcuffs to keep them close, a disney dad wouldn't be nearly such a wussy.

Naaah,

Everyone starts somewhere!!!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Welcome new dads....here to welcome all of you are the Amazing Dancing Federalies...:lmao::lmao:

:dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer:

I'll send you a PM. Where are you guys planning to eat?!

We have Chef Mickey' Dinner on the 16th
Tutto Italia early Dinner on the 17th
50's Prime Time cafe for lunch on the 18th then off to MNSSHP that night
Garden Grill Dinner on the 19th.
Le Cellier for lunch on the 20th. Took weeks of trying for this one. Hopefully it is worth the time put into getting this one.

Just need one for the day of arrival, we are crazy and likely driving down.

If anyone has any ideas, the DW says to just pick. Any advice on driving 1500 miles each way is appreciated as well. Time to go to bed

Hey just in case you guys are wondering, it cooled off to 126 outside....:lmao:

Boy am I glad my A/C is fixed...:goodvibes

Yes, and I can't wait! This is the western part of Milwaukee's airport.
mke.JPG

I've circled my office in red. We have a big picture window on the second floor of our warehouse that overlooks the end of runway 7R. When I need a little break, I'll walk out there and watch the takeoffs and landings. Last year, the Air Force Thunderbirds were in town for the Air Show, so we got to watch them up close. Those thrusters are so loud, you can just about feel the office shake. As they flew out on that Monday morning, the gave us a wave goodbye - they weren't more than 40 feet off the ground, and they're already doing barrel rolls.
Can't wait to see what the Angels have in store for us. Weather permitting, we'll be at the show on Sunday. :thumbsup2
The "Blues" usually perform for about an hour. Fat Albert, their transport plane, does the first 15 minutes or so and then the jets take off. Before the jets leave, you will see the Crew Chiefs standing in front of them giving hand signals to the pilots. That's what my son will be doing if he's selected. They're also the ones who hand the pilots their helmets and greet them when they get out of the cockpits (plus a bunch of other stuff). You'll enjoy their show!

#3 from Pennsylvania
Good luck to both of your sons!
Thanks! My older son was given a key to the office on Monday and the security code to the building yesterday, so that looks pretty good. I guess the next things he will get will be his own parking space, the key to the executive wash room and a permanent job; I'm just not sure of the order! :lmao: Hopefully, the permanent job will come first! :thumbsup2

Well, heck, if we're using wherever we've lived in our adult lives to fill out our map, I need to add Ohio, Missouri, and Israel.
Hey, I spent 3 years on Guam in the Navy! Does that still count?

That kid is going to be a monster for a long time if he can keep his arm healthy. Nothing but hissing gas crossing the plate.

They (Penn) was talking about it on Bob & Tom Radio show this morning.
I miss Bob and Tom. We used to get them here in Milwaukee, but then the local syndicate station dropped them. We have a local morning team - Bob and Brian - that is all the rage around here. I listened to them a few times, but for the life of me I can't figure out why people think they're funny. :confused3:confused3

you pay taxes on DVC? Sucks... rethinking this plan.:confused3
Yes, but you own such little real estate that it's not much in taxes. I think last year I paid about $100 in taxes, which could be deductible on your federal return (consult your tax adviser - I have no real idea what I'm talking about.) You pay annual dues, which cover building maintenance, taxes, etc.

Mmmm...that ice cream sandwich is sounding mighty tasty right now. And it's only 6:20 in the morning!

There are no Disney Dad wanna-bes. You just lack experience, young padawan. Just don't let the kids know you're terrified. They can smell fear and they feed on it.
Welcome to the club!

Emma's Dad will be around shortly to officially bestow member numbers upon both of you.:thumbsup2

Just need one for the day of arrival, we are crazy and likely driving down.

If anyone has any ideas, the DW says to just pick. Any advice on driving 1500 miles each way is appreciated as well. Time to go to bed
We've done the 1200 mile drive twice. Links to both trip reports are in my signature. The best nugget of advice I can give you is to hit up the Dollar Store (or something similar) and get a bunch of inexpensive toys/games/etc. Strip them out of their packaging (so you don't have it cluttering up the car until your next fuel stop), do any assembly (so you're not trying to do it while driving) and wrap them all up. Give one to each kid to open at each state line. It helps keep them interested and excited. Get enough for the ride home too. And be careful about getting too excited in Georgia and Florida. After getting through Kentucky and Tennessee and into Atlanta in a few hours each, you still have a loooong way to go. If you have any questions, feel free to post them here, PM me, or post them on the Transportation board. There are people over there is way more miles on them than I do!

The "Blues" usually perform for about an hour. Fat Albert, their transport plane, does the first 15 minutes or so and then the jets take off. Unfortunately, the actual show is on the lakefront, several miles from the airport, so we don't get to see any of jets loading or the hand signaling. I'm not even sure if we'll see Fat Albert. I did get to see all of that a few years ago in La Crosse. Certainly a neat part of the show experience!

My trip is right at 1,000 miles. We took DS6, DS4, and DS2 last August. We left at 11:00 p.m. in order to get as many miles while the munchkins slept. I also had the car DVD player, which i only recommend if it ACTUALLY works. (learned that one around TN/GA state line), and our boys loved their art books during the ride. But i strongly recommend the overnight ride best you can.

you pay taxes on DVC? Sucks... rethinking this plan.:confused3

Since it is deeded real estate, yes you do, but it isn't an enormous amount really at all. They are factored in to the annual dues cost (for maintenance & taxes) that all of the owners share and pay, which is a calculation based on the individual percentage of ownership. Those with more points pay more than those with less points. In 2009, property taxes were 14% of my total annual dues payment - the remaining 86% went for the maintenance & upkeep budget of the resort. And this is no different from owning any other type of timeshare - very standard stuff.

As a cash guest, of course technically your hotel bill goes to cover the same things, plus their profit margins, they just don't call it that since hotel guests don't have a vested interest in the property, and hotel guests cannot claim it as a 2nd home on their federal taxes - but many DVC members can. (consult your tax advisor please).

While I was there, the new Summer Nightastic! began. The highlight of the summer is the return of classic Main Street Electrical Parade that last ran down Main Street at WDW in 2000. It has always been my favorite Disney parade, so I just had to be there to watch it. In my typical fashion, I'm just posting them here to this thread. Here are some of my MSEP pictures. Sorry that some of these are not the greatest quality, but the parade is so fluid and lots of movement, and has always been difficult to capture thanks to all of the different lights the camera tried to focus on. And my point and shoot camera is nowhere near the quality as some of yours are...but hopefully some of you will enjoy them anyway. :)

Now just imagine yourself sitting (or standing) along Main Street, as over the loudspeakers you start to hear the trumpeting herald and then that that distinctive computerized tone... "Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls - the Magic Kingdom proudly presents our spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination, in thousands of sparkling lights and electrosynomagnetic musical sounds...The Main Street Electrical Parade!" followed by all the lights being doused, and the strains of Baroque Hoedown coming out to you...

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!! I'l be seeing it in less than 48 hours!
I've got a nice SLR camera but normally just have it set to auto, I think I'll spend my last few hours in the office this morning looking up the best settings to get some good shots.

guess I'll have to wait to see who screwed up the risoto this week:lmao:

IT"S RAW YOU DONKEY!!!!!!! I mean seriously, if you get selected for the show, based on previous seasons, I would think the first thing you would do is learn how to cook a F'n scallop!

Have you seen the "little Gordon" commercials on You-tube?

Naaah,

Everyone starts somewhere!!!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Welcome new dads....here to welcome all of you are the Amazing Dancing Federalies...:lmao::lmao:

:dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer:

I was thinking the the crew was a few short. Must be the logistics of sending all the equipment overseas.

I'll honk when I drive by your exit later today, not the same without you there though. Stay safe!:thumbsup2

Feel free use this, if it helps. (Text was lifted from my own trip report, so it's not really plagiarism):
I have a Canon EOS Rebel XTi, with the 18-55mm kit lens. Looking back, I shot 79 pictures of fireworks. (Or at least that's how many I kept. I don't recall if I purged out the bad ones yet.)
I did these all by just holding the camera - as you can see because some of them are slightly tilted. I wasn't even leaning on on anything. I shot them all using shutter priority mode. They were all either 1/10, 1/5 or 1/25 of a second. I had the ISO set at the camera's max of 1600. The lens was all the way open at 18mm, giving me an exposure of f/3.5.

The photos being referenced can be found here

But the best advice: shoot early, shoot often, weed out the bad shots later!

Today is my 9 year wedding anniversary. :thumbsup2
Seemed worth sharing!
Congrats!
