So, what's on tap for today everyone? We've got the liberry to get to at some point. Then we're pretty empty until 3. After that, it gets pretty full. After we pick up mom we're hitting this small coffee shack place nearby. Some people in the community designated today "Sam's Day" and we want to stop by in support. The man who runs the shop is a 37-year old man who was born in Egypt with Cerebral Palsey. He was abandoned just after birth, but luckily rescued by someone. He came to the US as a child to be helped by the Shriner's and ended up being raised by them. He's had 29 surgeries in his life including one a couple of years ago from which he had a 10% chance of survival. He felt like he was supposed to open this shop and share his story with others and so did so, but he's been struggling with it. Some lady in the area happened to stop there in Sept and asked his story. She felt inspired to help in some way so started a grass roots campaign to make today "Sam's Day". Emails have been going around and flyers posted at local businesses. As of Tues he still didn't know it was happening (though his wife is in on it). Businesses have been donating food and volunteers to help staff things so that Sam isn't a) overwhelmed and b) can just visit with people throughout the day. It's amazing how much has come together in a short time from just one person deciding to organize something special for a complete stranger. Hopefully, today will be a big success, but also drum up some regular business for the shop.
Okay, sorry, that got long, but I find it all very inspiring.
Back to my day, then. So then we pick up Phil and head home for a little bit before leaving again. Tonight Mom, Terra and I are going to Mops and Pops Trivia Night (couples event for MOPS at church - Mom is a mentor mom, Erin is in MOPS and I provide childcare for the 3-5yos). They said if the Pops can't come to bring someone else so I'm going with Mom and Terra is going to play with the other kids. I think this is the first time I'll have done something with adults-only in at least 3 months if not much longer than that.
