OK DDA, I need a little advice. Actually, I need you to tell me that I am being a baby and to grow up!! Or not, you tell me what you think:

As you know, we are going to WDW in December. I have always wanted to be there at Christmastime and after some prodding, DH agreed to go. His parents are coming too. Not sure what I think about that since I am an obsessive planner and she is too (but in a whole different way). Now, the inlaws have invited their daughter and her family to come with. First thing she wants to do is change the dates to make it more convenient for her. Also, they will need to stay at a value since the trip is going to be a real budget crunch for them. MIL thinks we should all stay at the same hotel (Yes this is the same MIL who has reservations about staying at mod and not a deluxe and now she wants to go value!).

DH will never rock the boat where MIL is concerned so I am on my own here.

I am losing some of my excitement over the trip.... am I being a baby or do I have the right to feel a little deflated?

We just completed a family trip in October - and I will tell you this - I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN!!! Everybody seemed to get what they wanted except us! You can not please everyone so I would go with trying to please your family. I've done it with my family and DH's family and they were the same. We felt that we didn't have the vacation that WE wanted or needed as a family. Go with your heart - there are pleasant ways to tell others that this vacation is for your family if it comes to that. But you certainly aren't a baby! If you aren't enjoying the prospect of planning this trip now, I don't think it will get any better. Please do what is best for you and your family.

You are not being a baby and you have a right to be disappointed. She is already trying to make major changes, and it sounds like since she is a planner but not the same way as you, the whole trip she will be overriding your suggestions. I'm not sure what the answer is but it sounds like your DH might need to speak up now before it spirals out of control. Stick up for the things that are important to you and agree to disagree on the others. GOOD LUCK!

Kate and Nancy I'm so sorry. It is hard to lose a parent or even a special grandparent. I will put all your family in my prayers.

Kristine -- I like where you are going with the pictures and the advice you have been given on here. If you aren't quite sure about the blending of the pictures, when you asked about the idea, I pictured the 4 parks t-shirt Kate designed. The layout is nice -- all four separate pictures, but very visually pleasing.

Just a thought...

That was the same design I was picturing when she first made the request. I thought it was Kate's design but wasn't sure. :flower:

Yes, but isn't that really the pretty part of snow and ice? ;) When it's all grey, slushy, and all over places it shouldn't be (namely streets) it's NOT pretty! :crazy2:

I was thinking along the same lines as well. I saw the tree one and thought it was pretty close, and yet the right layout for a program. It's a really neat idea... good luck Kristine! :goodvibes

Hi Marci,
Just wondering How your husbands job interviews are going does he have a new job yet.

Hi, Jennifer. Thanks for asking. The search is still very slow. There are so few of these specific jobs open in Dallas, and since we aren't willing to move, we just have to sit tight. We are both still very thankful that he does have a job and can look around for the right fit. He had two great leads in early December. One he didn't get. The other search has been delayed because the interviewer was in an accident. We think he will have an interview for that one in the next couple of weeks. He got a call about another one last week, and thinks it sounds exciting.

You know, his work doesn't even acknowledge birthday's? And they are a small company. I called a bakery and ordered a birthday cake to be sent out there last Friday (his birthday was Saturday) and I think they had no clue it was even his birthday. They were happy to eat the cake, though. I guess that was good for me, as it didn't de-rail my diet....

Thanks again for being supportive!

Oh blimey - that's complicated! Best explanation I've had so far though. Maybe I should watch some of a game and get DH to explain it as it goes. So far all I've managed to say is - of that's such and such a team - they say X and this DDAer supports them!

:goodvibes

Clare, my DH and son are Huge football fans. My younger brother played high school and college ball. I missed maybe 3 games in those 8 years. I do not understand football either!!! :rotfl2:

DB made Mom an index card, one saide had the players positions and a definition of what each one was suppose to do. On the other side he had a diagram of where they stood and the names and numbers of who played each position. That was one dog eared index card!

We don't get warm enough until the end of March or early April for the gray, slushy stuff (except this year it has been odd). We get snow and then it melts. We get snow and then it melts. We get snow and then it melts.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. We are all doing well. We are in the planning stages right now. Trying to figure out who will be where when!

Nancy

Cinderumbrella I'm so with Marti!! We did that in Oct too - and just like Marti I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN!! and just like Marti "everyone seemed to get what they wanted, except us!!" (and so dh is taking us again, just us our family, dd, dh and me!! :cool1: )

So like Marti says, Go with your heart - tell them you are not switiching dates, or resorts - that will give everyone some space - make sure you "meet up" with everyone...

and somehow even if dh doesnt want to cause waves with his mom - make sure he doesnt want to cause waves with YOU!! Meaning, can he agree with you on some things? (whatever is the most important)

For me, I wish I hadnt had hopes or dreams of lower crowds, so that the lines in FP were freaking me out, thinking I was wasting their time, and they werent happy with ME!! You have to get there at park opening in order to avoid lines in Fantasyland imho!!

Good Luck!!

I was a high school cheerleader for 3 years and played powder puff for two years. I knew the rules to the game but still didn't understand it! :rotfl: :rotfl: (Sorry to those football fans out there).

I think you have a right to feel the way you do. You've put a lot of yourself into planning this trip. Is there any way you can compromise on the dates, explain why you chose the dates you did and maybe see if that would make a difference. As to the hotel, just because they want to stay at value doesn't mean you have to. You can always make a plan to meet up somewhere every day. Just remember that you are going to Disney, and that's the most important thing!

Can't help you with the MIL thing. My DH would never invite his mother to go on a vacation with us. He knows that she and I don't see eye to eye. Alll I can do is send you a
 . Good luck!

Glynis, I think it is understandable you are upset. First of all, while I LOVE my family (Hi Kate! :wave2: ) Too much of a good thing is juat that TOO MUCH!

I would simply say that everyone should really stay where they would be most comfortable, after all you willplan some meals together and something special to celebrate Christmas, but after all everyone has such different tastes, noone should have to give up anything special.

As for the dates, will they overlap? Is it necessary that the days are all the same? Will changing it cause a burden for you? Maybe you should pick your battle and take the high road on another issue?

Sending :goodvibes & :wizard:

I got them at Michaels. They are 6x6 and were $4 each. Thanks.

No, my oldest is in kindergarten and still loves going to school. Sledding is good for one day, then the sun ruins it.
