OK....I'll bite. What's conkers??? :confused3

:badpc: I just wrote a novel and then accidently closed my broswer! Doh!

Here's a link that explains it all http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/conkers.html

In brief it's a game you play with the "seeds" that fall off horse chestnut trees that look like this:

My SIL went in for surgery around 9:00am (EST) and the surgery is expected to be 6-8 hours long. I'll post another update when I hear more. Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers. I feel like I can't function today.

Here's a picture of Matt - I used the frame that TravelinGal used - thanks for that!! Then I erased the background on Matt's picture and smooshed the two together - here is the result:

Very Cute Marti. Nice job on the editing. Do I see a new designer emerging?

I heard from the doctor this a.m. My mother is in the ICU and on oxygen and has responded to some stimuli overnight. She cannot be intubated due to her COPD. they have called in a pulmonary specialist to see if there is further deterioration there and also her cardiologist is running an ECG today to determine the state of her congestive heart failure. Her physician told us not to come running from Allentown, Boston and Virginia... but it is so hard to wait and not know.

Their prognosis is not good. If she revives from this "bout" they will send her back to the nursing home with a move to hospice in the future. And they are telling us that we may only have her with us for 6 months or so.

Please keep praying and thinking of us... Your thoughts mean more than I can say.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know that you are struggling with not being there. Do what is right for you and your mom.

I could use some prayers and pixie dust for my sister-in-law today as well. She found out in August (when she was pregnant with baby #5) that she had a brain tumor. She had a beautiful baby boy in December, and today is the day for the brain surgery. I am 6-7 hours away from them. I have three busy kids here, and I know that I couldn't really do anything there, but it is hard to feel so far away and helpless.

Beth

I hope all is well. :wizard: :wizard: :grouphug: :grouphug: to you and your family. I hope that they are able to completely remedy the problem.

Since I'm having my own posting party: I'll send out a big Happy Birthday to Lynn.

Happy Birthday

My sister in PA just called to tell me that our Mom was taken to the hospital late tonight. She is completely unresponsive but the last report was that her vital signs are OK. Not sure what the heck that means. She is 85 years old and not in the best of health. We had to move her from Assisted Care to a nursing home in August and she has not been doing well lately.

I have not seen my Mom since the fall and was planning to go up next weekend. So I am feeling badly now. It is so very hard to live 6 hours away from those you love and have your own family and life that has to be maintained. Anyway... please keep us in your thoughts. Thanks, friends.

Oh Elin,

Thoughts and prayers are flying your way.... :goodvibes :paw: :paw: :paw:

Hi all! :wave2: It's been a quite a while since I posted. Only now I think I have some motion sickness from zooming through this thread and speed reading up to this point. :crazy2:

Thanks to everyone who has posted or sent me a PM with photos of the designs I made. It is really cool to see them all and your families having a great time at disney!

Now I just hope I can stay caught up because reading hundreds of posts at one time is a bit too much for me!

Great to see your typeface here!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

:grouphug: and prayers to you too Beth... I know how hard it is to be so far away.....

A quick check-in at lunch today:

Lynn: Happy Birthday!!!!

Elin: I am so sorry to hear abour your mother. I hope she receives the best care and that she is able to be comfortable. Thinking about you.

Beth: Sorry to hear about your DSIL. I suppose it is a good sign that it is an operable tumor to begin with. My thought are with you.

Jennifer: YUCK! The only teeth I have ever had to have pulled were wisdom teeth and I also ended up with dry sockets. That is no fun. I still can't stand the taste of cloves.

Ladylucca: Nice to see you back. I have our 4 dwarf shirts in a baggie and waiting for our trip back in April. Thanks so much. We got a lot of compliments on them in November.

Tammi: Glad you got a good price on your October airfare. I am still trying to find something decent for August. I agree though that a trip becomes real when the airfare is booked.

Marti: Nice designs. I really like the "green army man" one.

Clare: Conkers? I was going to ask about that also.

Kristie: Sorry to hear about your struggles at Church. We are Methodist and we get no choice in our ministers. The Bishop takes care of that for us (whether we like it or not).

Mac: I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It is my firm belief that God is now holding your son. He was truly the most innocent and deserving of God's salvation.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

I will be sending out the spreadsheet this weekend. For those who have sent me their e-mail addresses, look for it "in the mail".

For everyone that is having a hard time right now, you are all in my thoughts.

Have those of you in Chicago thought about flying Southwest?

Southwest only flies out of Midway airport in Chicago. I live in the far Northwest suburbs, near the WI border and Midway is South of Chicago, about 80 miles from here- the limo ride there would be about $100 for us so it's not worth it. Plus, we always take those crazy 7am flights to avoid traffic and I couldn't imagine having to leave my house at 4AM to get to Midway :earseek:
But thanks for the thought!

Beth -- lots of thoughts and :wizard: coming your way. 6 hours is a lifetime away, isn't it? Let us know how your sister-in-law does.

On my front... my Mom has been a little more responsive this morning and they are looking at tests being done this afternoon or tomorrow morning. I have to hand it to her doctor. She was with my Mom until 3:00 a.m. and back at her side at 7:30 this a.m. I am very comforted by the fact that she is getting good care and that we will have more answers soon.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and pixie dust. They mean so much.
