The kidney pain is just starting to bother me this morning. For some reason I feel ok when I get up and it gets progressively worse throughout the day. I have my pain meds ready, but don't want to take them until I can't stand it anymore. I have to pick Hunter up at school at 11, get Colby and Logan to school by 11:30, take Hunter to be fitted for a special needs stroller at 12, pick up Colby and Logan at 1:15. I probably won't bring Hunter back to school as there will only be about 45 minutes left to the school day by then, but we'll see. Nick is a little jealous and asked to be picked up today too at 2:30. Then we have Nick's concert at 7 PM. Just another busy day in this chaotic month. Tomorrow Nick is presenting an oral report at 1:30 so we have been invited to that too. I'll check back later.

If she is as busy as I am this time of year, baked goods are always nice. As would be a tin of chocolate covered biscotti... :rotfl: Or hand soap :rotfl:

I would say do NOT get her anything with a piano on it or music notes or treble clefs or... ;)

Does she have any hobbies outside of music? If so, I would think a gift that feeds that hobby would be greatly appreciated. I am always delighted by the families that take the time to get me something Disney-oriented. Disney Dollars have been wonderful gifts over the years. And, of course, I have a cupboard full of Disney mugs! But I actually remember who they came from.

If she is a gardener, a GC to a favorite shop would be nice, attached to a pair of gardening gloves. Things like that stand out in my mind. Hope it helps!

We got her a movie(Mean Girls) and plush blanket last year....going to be hard to top that this year!!

She has an intestinal disorder which leaves out most baked goodies. She is as scent sensitive as I am.

All right all....time for your help...what to get Miss Kathy?? She's the organist at the church, likes movies, has two grown adult children. Has major food issues and is my favorite coworker. Her husband is also a musician and a hoot!!

How about a gift certificate for a movie and a snack. If she likes movies she might enjoy a Movie date with her hubby and she would choose a snack that was ok with her allergies.

For those of you with younger kids there is a great book titled: Silver Spurs written by Robert R Knigge. It is a story about how Santa is able to get into houses with small chimneys or no chimneys by having his smallest elf Silver Spurs fit down the small chimneys or through key holes in doors to open the door and let Santa in. It was mine from when I was little and I have read it too all my kids. Great short story.

Hope I'm not out of line by "saying" this, but you really shouldn't wait so long to take your pain meds, if you take it at the onset of your pain you may be able to avoid the worst part of the pain, if you wait until you can't stand it anymore you will just be suffering needlessly.

PS - Becky, your Christmas card I sent you came back, I'll have to check the address on the list and see what I did wrong. Did you get a postcard or was that maybe lost in the mail since I didn't put a return address on it?

Nope, I definitely got the postcard and the address was completly correct on it, so I'm not sure about the card. :confused3 :confused3

Thanks. There is a story behind it. We took the 5 kids and had a photo done for my parents for Christmas and we had just one shot that was usable. Chris and I always take a snapshot of the boys to put in our Christmas cards. Well, we tried on Thanksgiving and didn't get any card worthy shots, a lot of goofy one though. We dressed the kids for the concert tonight and tried again. You guessed it, nothing without flaws. So I took some of the shots and combined them for the card in my signature. They are small enough that you probably don't notice how bad they really are :rotfl: If you look at the one of Chris and I you will see that Chris has his head buried in his hands. That was when he announced that he just gives up. :teeth: So no one is getting a picture of the kids this year, but you guys get to see why :teeth:

Deb

I think your card is perfect! :thumbsup2

What about gifting a month or more of Netflix or a similar movie rental plan? That way they can have movies for that period of time. Prices range from $5.99 a month for the lowest plan to $17.99 plus tax for the most expensive, the difference is in the number of movies you can have at once and if there is a limit of movies for the month.

Amy,
I liked your Night before Christmas..so true..all of us are so busy doing "holiday" stuff that its hard to just sit down & spend time with the family which is what it is all about anyway. Mathhew is a cutie-pie!!!
I am impresses with your cookies..they look yummy, I'd ask for the recipe but I am a slice & bake kinda gal!

Deb,
Ok, I might be over stepping since I have never met you BUT take your meds before you are in absolute pain. I had a diseased gall bladder & had it out eventually. Before that i was on pain meds & my dr said never wait til its so bad to take them. Take them at the onset of pain...just saying this so you don't suffer & cause I care... :teeth:

Things are hectic, as we leave for WDW in about 12 hours! Things are just about packed, but I have a few errands I need to run in the morning, plus we're not sure if our maid is coming tomorrow, as we tried to reschedule her, and she wouldn't return our calls! :confused3 I'm definitely not leaving my burglar alarm off for our trip!

I've read everything, but don't remember much. :wizard: :grouphug: to all those feeling poorly for one reason or another. I will try to pop on tomorrow to say "goodbye" if I get the chance. If not, I will talk to you early next week, if I don't log in from SSR!

I'm a bit worried about the crowds, what with the party being sold out Friday night, but we're just going to go and enjoy the atmosphere, if nothing else. I am mighty worried about the 70% chance of showers on Friday (it rained on us at last year's MVMCP, too), so if you have any dry :wizard: to throw my way, please do so! I just want to make sure we get to see Holiday Wishes!

have a great time!

Morning everyone!
im feeling great this morning..Im just resting for a bit, and then will get up and do some chores and get ready to go to rowan for hte last time for awhile :)

have a great day!

My dh doesn't have a cell phone either. He says that he doesn't need one. I finally bought a cell phone for myself two years ago at Christmas time. It is a pay as you go Virgin Mobile phone. Laura (13) convinced us that she need a phone earlier this year when Target had the free phone with a $90 (good for a year) Virgin Mobile card. Then for her birthday we bought her a nicer phone, so Matthew (15) has her old one. I really resisted getting phones for the kids, but they are primarily for calling home and I do feel much safer that they carry them. I don't have to worry about them waiting around if practice is finished early or canceled without notice. If Laura is biking in the neighborhood with friends, I know that she can call if there is a problem. Laura is still on her first $90, and Matthew doesn't go over the $15/quarter that we are required to put on it.

Beth

You know, I always said I'd never get cell phones for my kids, but lately I've been rethinking that. 2 weekends ago, DH had to cover a potentially tragic story. 2 16 year old boys rode their bikes along the edge of Utah lake. They saw ice, and figured the lake was frozen through. They decided to ride their bikes across the lake. About 1 foot away from shore the ice cracked and they both fell through into the freezing water. It wasn't too deep, but they were in a marshy area, and their bikes (and themselves) got tangled up. One of them had a cell phone and was able to call 911. It's a huge lake, and these boys had no idea where they were on it. Search and rescue looked for them over an hour and couldn't find them. DH's news station sent their helicopter up to help with the search. They spotted the boys, and led Search and Rescue to them. By that time, they'd been in the freezing water about 2 hours. Luckily, they survived, and are fine now, but they could have been in really big trouble without that cell phone. Makes you think!

Twas The Night Before Christmas....Mom Style

Twas the night before Christmas,
When all thru the abode,
Only one creature was stirring,
And she was cleaning the commode.

The children were finally sleeping,
All snug in their beds,
While visions of N-64 & Barbie
Flipped through their heads.

The dad was snoring
In front of the TV,
With a half-constructed bicycle
Propped on his knee.

So only the mom
Heard the reindeer hooves clatter,
Which made her sigh,
"Now what is the matter?"

With toilet bowl brush
Still clutched in her hand,
She descended the stairs,
And saw the old man.

He was covered with ashes
Which fell with a shrug;
"Oh great," muttered the mom,
"Now I have to clean the rug."

"Ho Ho Ho!" cried Santa,
"I'm glad you're awake."
"Your gift was especially
Difficult to make."

"Thanks, Santa, but all I want
Is time alone."
"Exactly!" he chuckled.
"So, I've made you a clone."

"A clone?" she muttered.
"What good is that?"
"Run along, Santa;
I've no time for chit chat."

Then out walked the clone -
The mother's twin;
Same hair, same eyes,
Same double chin.

"Fantastic!" the mom cheered.
"My dream has come true!"
"I'll shop, I'll read,
"I'll sleep a night through!"

From the room above,
The youngest did fret.
"Mommy! Come quickly,
"'I'm scared & I'm wet."

The clone replied,
"I'm coming, sweetheart."
"Hey," the mom smiled.
"She sure knows her part."

The clone changed the small one
And hummed her a tune,
As she bundled the child
In a blanket cocoon.

"You're the best mommy ever;
"I really love you."
The clone smiled & sighed,
"And I love you, too."

The mom frowned & said,
"Sorry, Santa, no deal."
That's my child's LOVE
She is trying to steal."

Smiling wisely, Santa said,
"To me it is clear,
"Only one loving mother
"Is needed here."

The mom kissed her child
And tucked her in bed.
"Thank You, Santa,
"for clearing my head.

"I sometimes forget
"That it won't be very long
"When they'll be too old
"For my cradle & song."

The clock on the mantle
Began to chime.
Santa whispered to the clone,
"It works every time."

With the clone by his side,
Santa said "Goodnight.
"Merry Christmas, dear Mom.
"You will be all right."

Sometimes we need reminding of what life is all
about.
Especially at times during the holiday season, when
all
we seem to do is clean and bake and shop and and and
and and and and....You get the picture, I'm sure.

So stop for a moment and hug that little one so
special,
whether he/she is 2 months or 22 years, or even older
than that. For they are the Gift that God gave us in
life...
and what a gift to be treasured, far above any other!

May the real meaning of Christmas be with you all
this year.

Wow! You made me cry this morning! Thanks for the reminder. I really needed it today!

What about gift certificates to the local movie theater? Or some Blockbuster coupons in a basket with some microwave popcorn and 2 litres of soda?

Deb - I'm going to second the advice from the others: don't wait too long to take the meds! Take it from someone who has been where you are more times than she cares to remember! Kidney stone pain can get excruciating! Do the pain meds make you sleepy? That might be the only reason I could see for putting them off.

We all love you, and want you to feel better. Also, really push liquids (cranberry juice especially), and hopefully, you can get the stones moving and out of your system. Believe me, you'll be able to feel them once they get going! At that point, do NOT wait to take your meds!!! That will be the worst pain you've ever felt. It's 10 hundred times worse than labor without an epidural!!!!!
