Hmmm.do I smell a NYC DDA meet in the future?????
It has been discussed in the past but never planned. Depending on when it is I would be up for a NYC meet.

Poor Abi has been sneezing nearly non stop since Monday night.....Grandma and Grandpa got a real tree then....the poor kid!! Seems she's allergic to the tree and Benadryl is helping minimally.

I am tuckered...I think I am going to cuddle with Abi and come back on when it's her bed time....but if I don't....Good Night All!!

Glynis & Theresa - DS hasn't had school at all this week, so he is bored, too. And he keeps pestering me to give him the things we agreed he couldn't have until Christmas morning. At least tomorrow he can stay home with DH and play with some of the stuff he already has!

Brother & Sister are out next week, but I am only working 3 days. DH SHOULD be off Wed & Thur but we know how that goes. They STILL don't have a permanent person to cover for Toad. Rumor has it she will be back after the first of the year. Yeah, right. There is a trainee getting ready to "graduate" but they told DH the guy isn't being assigned to cover DH's route. Whatever. DH said they had a job fair last weekend but out of 40 something applicants they were only able to advance 5 of them through the application process. :sad2:

Thanks Becky!
I am working on it..he is being so "wasted" at his school.
:wizard: :wizard:

Keep fighting for him to get him what he deserves, the schools will try to do whatever they can so they don't have to pay for special services and they will listen to teachers over what the parents say.

I wish my parents would have fought my school more on certain issues, this is just one example. In 7th grade I had accelerated math, social studies, English and science. My math teacher decides that I am not doing well enough in my pre-algebra class so she goes to the guidance counselor and proceeds to tell the guidance counselor that I shouldn't be in any accelerated classes because at the time I had a high C in her class because I had been sick from school and missed some concepts.

My parents talk some sense into the guidance counselor and they let me stay in all the other accelerated classes besides math because I have A's in the other classes. They move me out of the pre-algebra class into a regular math class, I am bored to tears. After I am in the regular math class, I get back a test and a quiz from the pre-algebra class which I had gotten A's on both of them. I would have probably had a B in that class for the semester had they not changed my math class.

In 8th grade I ended up with the highest math grade of the entire 8th grade and was bored all year. In 9th grade I had a horrible math teacher by this point I hate math and I had enjoyed it before. My parents write a letter to the school for 10th and 11th grades so I don't end up with that math teacher. In 12th grade they write a letter but the school doesn't honor the request and I put up with her but I really didn't care about math by this point and my grades reflected it.

I am so glad that he is going to be home for the holidays and that he is doing so well that he can.

What a thoughtful man you have there to set up the laptop for him/them.

I think he's pretty special. :teeth:

OOOOOOHHHHH!! That's good to know!! I've been trying to decide whether to pick that one up.

I'm starting the sequel, "Mrs. Claus Saves Christmas" tonight. I hope it's as good as the first one!

I have always had luck finding boots for the boys at Kohls. They usually have them on sale and it's an extra 15% off when I use my kohls card. They have warm boots too.

Deb

I'll check there. Thanks for the tip! I always forget about Kohl's. It's so new here!

Being gifted is a funny thing. I tested into gifted in 5th grade. That program was where we went to the gifted teacher one day each week - same thing in 6th grade. In 7th grade the gifted kids were sequestered in a little group and only mixed in with other kids for PE and electives. I HATED it. I became very disenchanted with education. In high school I took AP Literature courses but I couldn't grasp Math higher than Algebra I. I still don't have a college degree because I didn't have any interest in college right after high school. I started taking courses when I was 23, but I was already married and a couple of years later I had DS. I took more courses when DS was a baby but I never graduated.

Many gifted kids can't handle traditional classroom instruction because it doesn't fit the way they learn, so just having challenging curriculum isn't the only consideration.

One of my friends used to nanny for a family where the dad is BRILLIANT. Literally. He is a bio-genetics researcher. He has won all these prestigious awards, made amazing medical discoveries, etc. But functioning in the real world just boggles him. He is almost TOO smart to manage daily tasks - some things are just too simple for him to comprehend. Kids like that need specialized instruction so their intelligence doesn't become a handicap.

I know that you are being serious, but I was wondering if I could use brilliance as my excuse for not doing housework. Yes dear, I know that the house is a mess, but I just don't get how to keep it clean :rotfl: Do you think he'd buy it? ;)

It's time for me to get my beauty rest (there isn't enough rest in the world :rotfl: ) I'll talk to you in the am.

Ok, I'm in Oreo heaven!!! I just made a batch of oreo truffles using double stuffed mint oreos! They are so awesome! The recipe couldn't be simpler, either.

1 pkg. oreos
1 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese, room temp.
dipping chocolate

Grind oreos in a food processor until only crumbs are left. Dump them into a big bowl, and mix in the cream cheese until it resembles a soft dough. Form into 1 inch balls and refrigerate until firm. Dip in chocolate and set in fridge to harden.

There you have it! So simple, and absolutely wonderful!
sounds good.

Deb - Any excuse that gets someone out of housework is a valid excuse as far as I am concerned! Let me know how that goes! :rotfl2: The really smart dad had a wife, 3 daughters, a live in nanny, and a housekeeper so I am sure he never gave housework a thought! His girls are all teenagers now, but I bet they still have a housekeeper!

My husband tries that all the time...I don't buy it!!! :lmao:

I fell into the same category as Cassidy...we moved into this school district after all the kids have already been labelled gifted from a school system that doesn't have G/T programs. I was bored senseless all the way through school...I don't think my mom knew enough to fight for harder classes...mainly because I was an A/B student without trying. After fighting in 5,6 and 7th grades for Cassidy she finally was put into higher level classes...she is struggling now but mainly because she doesn't like the teachers....the poor kid never had teachers not like her until this year. She'll get it figured out.

My husband is the product of a small school district and parents who really didn't "get" him. As part of the ADD testing he had his IQ tested....he is also brilliant...but becomes unglued with the little life tasks...what I see as a pile of clothes to launder...he sees, well heck if I know what he really sees. :confused3

So there is a thread on the Dining Plan forum saying that Disney is REALLY going to start separating the child and adult dining credits starting on Jan. 1. The girl who started the thread is a CM. Even though DS is an "adult" he is perfectly happy ordering from the kids' menu, so we never tried to fudge on the credits. I think we might have gotten him an adult CS meal two or three times.

Anyway, heads up to any of you who might be getting the DDP in 2007. As always, much speculation and debate on the issue.
