I have to share this with all of you. I'm such a proud mom today!

Christopher had his final regular swim meet of the season this morning. He has been hoping to be picked for the relay team for weeks. He's a good swimmer for his age, but about a month ago he started coming up for breaths about every other stroke and it was slowing him down a bit. We've been working on it and I just told him to do his best at practice and maybe he would be picked.

When we got there this morning he was only signed up for the individual freestlye and not the relay. I was disappointed for him, but I didn't say anything. In a few minutes one of the Jr. Coaches had him by the hand and said mom he's going to do the relay.

When it was his turn to swim he flew to the other side of the pool! We were all standing there with our jaws on the floor. I've never seen him swim that fast and he didn't do the breaths every other stroke. His relay team took second place behind the other relay team from our club :cheer2:

When it was time for his individual freestyle he again flew down the pool and won a blue ribbon!!!!!!! He was swimming against good swimmers so I was really proud of him. It was a close race!

After the meet he went to his coach and thanked her for letting him be on the relay team. She told him she didn't "let" him, that he had improved so much that he earned a spot on the team! He was so proud and I was so proud for him!! She doesn't know how much she boosted his self esteem and confidence by saying that!

On a side note, and pretty funny: Christopher has blue (1st), red (2nd) and yellow (4th) ribbons. There are 3 other color ribbons that he doesn't have, and he wants one of every color. The lady handing out the ribbons for the relay thought his team took 3rd so she handed him a white ribbon. When she realized her mistake and gave him a red ribbon, he didn't want to trade :rotfl: . Isn't it great that at that age it's still not all about winning?

Way to go, Christopher! :cheer2:

Here's an early question: what is the weather usually like there in early January? What will I need to pack? Is it warm enough for capris? Do I need heavy sweaters, jackets, etc?
Yes. To everything. Take it all. You could be wearing shorts and tshirts in the daytime, but sweaters and mittens at night.

Vicki - hope you have a great time at Girl Scout Camp. Whatever are we going to do without PM and wedding updates? ;)

And I think a DDA cruise would be awesome!!! Could you imagine the t-shirts?!?!?!? :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao: They woudn't know what hit 'em!

Hopefully, Terry will have saved some for posting after she sends him on to his next destination! You'll have to get after the other ladies that have Pal Mickey visiting them. I know that Theresa will have Brooksie after the week-end and she has a new camera that she is playing with so she can take lots of pictures. The wedding will have to be on hold. Sorry! :lmao:

T-shirts and matching Pal Mickey's!!!! Can't you see it now. 40 DDA women (& men if we can get them to join) with their Pal Mickey's with all in matching tees!! :rotfl2:

Robyn-

I sold Pampered Chef when we first got married and I loved doing it but I hated getting parties and doing all the follow up that came with it!!

I wish I could find a way to make extra money at home!!

I sold Pampered Chef as well, and then it fizzled out around here. I hate all the follow up as well. I will say that PC is set up a lot better than TS and is much easier to do. This has been a major downer with TS as I love the stuff and use it just about everyday.

I have been trying to come up with something to do from home as well and I keep hitting a brick wall. I have had fun planning this shower and thought that I could do something like that, event planning I guess you would call it, but it would be way to time consuming to do from home. Maybe when I move to Michigan I can talk to my cousin. She is not married and has no kids and does stuff like this now only for major corporations. Only thing she hates is travelling all the time. She is on the road about 10 months a year. So she can do all the running/contact/follow up and I can plan from home. Just might work!

We all wish you could come too Vicki! Glad to know Theresa sounded good pre flight!

Had a message on my cell phone that I didn't get until this morning after I left the house. Theresa made it safe & sound to her destination. She said that it was the most turbulent flight she had ever been on but she was safe. She sounded very happy to see her mom. I know that she was worried because of past bad kharma on her birthday! Sounds like it went well. I'm going to try to call her later to check in and make sure all is still good.

Unless there is a miracle, I am definetly done :teeth:

I'm all alone here in Utah. I've never met any of you! Hmmm, am I really who I say I am????? Yup! I'm too boring to be anyone else!
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Yeah, says the lady that knows Marie Osmond and could have met Donny Osmond and turned down the chance, whose father has a statue of him that was presented at a ceremony with the governor in attendance, and ... too many other famous things to remember.

Well, nothing permanent has been done around here (yet), but it would be a major shocker if I have another. Unfortunately, we're past that stage of life around here. I would love to travel back in time and do it again, but I don't think we're up for starting with a new one.

That is good to know! If you talk to her can you ask her to give me a ring when it is conveinent for her, she has my number. I know tomorrow she has plans to sightsee, so I don't want to call in the middle of that. We need to plan Saturday.

Do you do any designing? I can send you the file for his "license". If you don't have the software to design, send me a pm with your address and his name and I'll modify the license for you if you are interested. Here's a copy of the license that the travelin' Pals carry.

That is terrific! I haven't yet come up with a name for my PM. I keep telling DH we have to come up with one! :rotfl: Once I figure out a middle name, I will pm you, though, because you know he has to have a license! :thumbsup2

Glynis--congratulations on signing up for the 1/2 marathon! That is a goal of mine & DH's. We are going to try to do the "Minnie" next spring, and then in January 2008, we are aiming for the half. I'd try the half this January, but I can't get off from work then. (Murphy's Law will probably hit, though, and it will end up being an out-of-school snow day for us!)

I will be back in a little bit. I need to go put Emma to bed and then clean the kitchen. I have done nothing today but nap quite a bit. I had to start back up my medicine (Diamox) yesterday as the humidity has really been affecting me. Not only have I had some horrible headaches but my left ear has been whooshing which means the pressure is pretty high in my head. The medicine has horrible side affects on me, extreme exhaustion, numbness in my hands and feet, horrible indigestion, and having to go to the bathroom all the time. The upside is that it totally wipes out my thrist for carbonated beverages as it makes them taste horrible. I hope it doesn't take long for me to get readjusted to the medicine.

I actually started a wedding planning business two years ago

my brother got married and I planned their wedding and everyone told me I should be a wedding planner - so I decided to try it

I had one wedding -I hated the night hours and I found out that brides really don't want to let go - I felt that I did a work for her and then she would change her mind - that was that end of that!!!!

Well, at 62, I'm definitely done! The next thing for me would be a great grandchild. That might not be that far off - my oldest grandchild is almost 21, and the next one is almost 20. Maybe another two or three years?
