The day AFTER a colonoscopy?

This is a timely thread. I just had a colonoscopy a couple of hours ago! I feel totally fine. A litte groggy, but not enough to take a nap, so I am relaxing on the couch. Not sure how I will feel later on, but so far so good!

Thanks for your post. According to many friends who have had the test, you should feel fine later today.

Just a few words about Proipofol (Diprivan). It has been around for over 30 years and is used extensivly for many reasons. It is a short-acting, intravenously administered hypnotic agent that has few adverse side effects.

Had one last year and was perfectly fine the next day. I was only cramping a bit a few hours after it but back to starving self the next day.

I had my first one last year. I was surprised when I woke up that I did not feel dopey. I got the MJ drug. We went to breakfast afterwards and I felt fine.

Most people haven't said this, but TAKE IT EASY the day after your test. Seriously. Like don't go running a bunch or errands or exert yourself physically.

My mother had a colonoscopy and went to work the next day (She was a teacher at the time). She started feeling bad so she decided to go home after lunch. By the time she got home, she felt horrible and headed to the bathroom. She didn't make it there and bled out back there (sorry to be graphic.) Before passing out she managed to get to a phone and called for help. When the paramedics arrived, she had lost so much blood, her blood pressure was 20/0. She almost didn't make it.

This must have been really scary!!! BUT this is hardly a normal reaction. Like any procedure, things can go wrong or the doctor make a mistake. Locally, a doctor nicked the bowel during a colonoscopy (unknown at the time of the procedure) and the patient died a few weeks later. Please don't let horror stories influence you to not get a colonoscopy. The benefits far outweigh the risks.:flower3:

I felt light as a feather and thrilled it was OVER! They wheeled me out and I told everyone "I'm going to DISNEYWORLD".. and DID, two days later! :lmao:

I've had 2 (or 3? can't remember) colonoscopies. Not gonna lie, after the procedure on the same day, expect some serious gas. But the next day you'll be fine.

Thanks for all the responses, but I did decide to wait until September!

Very timely post for me, I'm doin prep day as we speak:upsidedow I started the drink about 3 hours ago and I'm not sure I can finish the 3-4 liters. I've finished half but I'm so sick to my stomach its difficult to concentrate on anything....I was not apprehensive at all going in but now three hours later I'm worried about tomorrow too. My procedure is at 7:30 am and they say I'll be home by 9 am, was hoping to lay on the beach for a few hours but...

I need to get this drink down without losing what I've put in already! Anyone have experience with stomach upset from the mix?

When I had my colonoscopy last fall my mother gave me some good advice. She told me to drink the prep with a straw because I wouldn't have to taste it as much. That is what I did and it made the prep a lot easier for me. That stuff is disgusting!! Good luck tomorrow.

OP, like others have said, the only thing that stands out to me about after the procedure is how hungry I was. I had DH bring me out to breakfast and then I went home and relaxed. The next day I went to work. If I had gone for the test going into the weekend, though, I might have told DH and DD I had to recouperate until Sunday night just so I would have the excuse of being waited on though. :upsidedow That would have been my excuse to stay sacked out on the couch all weekend!

I've actually added Crystal Light as a lemonade flavor so the :sick::sick: isn't really from the taste, not sure why its affecting me this way, I usually have a stomach of steel:sad2:

I was up all night the night before mine. :headache: I expressed my joy of that to anyone who would listen once I was medicated for the procedure. I told the doctor I couldn't see anything of concern during the procedure and then asked him what he thought. :sad2: I went and had the biggest hamburger I could fit in my face after the procedure....then went home and slept the rest of the day. Next day was fine. :thumbsup2

So maybe I'll leave the appointment as is. I am a little sensitive to anesthesia, but my test is Wednesday afternoon, so if I sleep a lot on Thursday I should be able to drive by Friday.

I just don't want to ruin a perfectly good summer weekend for a test that is not an emergency.

Thank you for all the responses :thumbsup2

If you have your test on Wednesday there is no reason for you to need to sleep all day Thursday. The medicine they give you to make you loopy (in most cases Versed) will wear off in less than 4 hrs. You may be able to go home right after the test and go back to sleep but I can't imagine anybody being sleepy from it the next day. I use to work for a Gastroenterologist and we did Colonoscopy and EGD every day and the only complaint I ever heard anybody say was that after the test you get very GASSY because of all the air they shoot up in there when they are doing the test. Of course nobody likes the prep. You take industrial strength laxatives and poop your brains out for about 12 hours then when you are cleaned out it stops.

But if for some reason you seem too sleepy or still very loopy after the test they can and will give you Narcan to completely take away the effects of the Versed.

Use the force, Luke! I just struggled thru it...not very good advice. I was "troubled" at both ends trying to get all that to go down and stay down. By the time I had the procedure, tho', everything was fine. I can't explain it...

It's not anesthesia like surgery, it is more like a twilight.

I am interested in this thread. Hah! I have my first one next week and DH cancelled his so I get to be the first here. DH will be a big baby and I will be back on my feet shortly after. He respondes so well to Valium (he gets stupid goofy) and I can't even tell they gave me anything.
Guess 3 C sections does that to a person!
He's moaning about nothing to eat and the prep stuff. I'm thinking good flush of my system and I'll go back to work.
Men should give birth!:lmao:

C'Mon, now. You know they would just explode!

I've had 3 and no problems at all after them. I ate right afterward and just was a little "gassy" that day.

I went straight from mine to the drive-thru at Jack in the Box :cool1:
