The Daily Grind - A What's Happening in Your Life Thread

I'm getting ready for a quick trip to New Hampshire to surprise a friend next weekend. Of course this entails me getting out one of my most impressive Renaissance costumes. And making sure I have all the pieces I need. Including the corset. Why do I pick these things? It is my choice. I'm the one MAKING them. I wonder sometimes.

There are Ren fairs in NH in the middle of winter????

Not a Ren Fair. The historical recreationist group I belong to has "events" all year long. This one is taking place at a hotel in Manchester. We are a private group and our get togethers aren't open to the public. If someone is interested in joining the group, they are very welcome to come, but everyone has to dress in costume. I tend to dress in early to mid 16th century Italian. Except when I am at the big camping event in August. Then it is 13th or 14th century English, because I don't have to wear a corset for those.

Sounds like a lot of fun Kim.

We are tying to get the house ready to bring home our first child. Our little girl will be born in less than 8 weeks. The time has just flown by. I am still busy at work also.

How do you like "Insanity"? Some of my co-workers are doing it right now. I'm curious.

It's absolutely insane, but I've done drum corps before, so I know I can take it. The diet isn't too bad, but I am starting to get cravings for my favorite foods. I think my metabolism is spiking, which means I need to increase what I'm eating a little bit, but I'll still stay within my diet. Alcohol is my weakness though lol.

To wishspirit - you will find your purpose one way or another. In the entire year of 2009, I was 8 time zones away and half way across the world from my bf for the first 6 months. Now we're 1500 miles and 1 time zone apart and feels like he's right next door. Don't worry, if it's meant to be, it will prevail.

I am busy planning a wedding (6 months from today!!!) but am freaking out beyond belief. Every time I start to think about all that needs to be done I get even more nervous/anxious. I am also dealing with getting my car fixed after I was rear-ended by a really rude man last week. I didn't file a police report (stupid me) and there is a little bit of damage to my car. He gave me his business card and I also wrote down his license plate number too (he didn't know that). He was avoiding my insurance company's phone calls and now since I had his plate we got ahold of his insurance company...not fun. Good thing the damage isn't AWFUL but he messed up my car and I want it fixed!!!

I am a teacher too and we have a week off in Feb also. Ours is 5 days but it works out to be 9 including the weekends. I am DEF looking forward to that!!

I'm enjoying my winter break before I start pruning apple trees again...though I am getting itchy to get started...and trying to convince myself that I CAN afford a solo trip to Tampa in August for a friend's wedding on top of my girls only Disney trip in November.

Jealous of those going through renovations! I wish we were as our kitchen floor is falling apart. We did buy a new mattress set today...I call it a $900 investment in our marriage :)

My work life is interesting nowawdays. We are back in the renovated and expanded library. The work isn't all finished yet, so every day has a new change. Keeps us on our toes. Plus this week, I have a new part time staff starting. Training her is the priority of the week.

For fun, we walked today on brand new trails just down the street. One trail is for walkers, snowshoers and dogs, the other trail for cross country skiiers only. So great to have a nice little trail network a five minute walk from home.

Concerned that tomorrow's rain could turn everything to ice! :scared1:

Today is my fist day back at work after 8 great days at WDW. Luckily we had yesterday to reacclimate before heading into the office. I have to teach for a few hour this morning then a parent teacher conference at my son's pre-school. I know he gives them a hard time so it should be interesting. Rest of the day will be spent catching up. I did keep up on e-mail while gone, so it shouldn't be too bad.

And please, no one ask about this on Facebook!!!!! OK I'm paranoid, but I CANNOT spoil the surprise for my friend. She is a friend on FB. I will tell you all about it next week.

Having to post via e-ticket this morning. No electricity when I arrived but it is on now. Need to reboot the server I guess as our network is still down.

Crazy morning so far. It took me double the time to drive in to work. Just people being cautious I guess.

Typical Monday for me. For those who met me on the DAP thread you know what I am going to say. Anyone who has not previously met me ... Well I have a day of back to back meetings starting at 8:30 and ending at 3:30 if I am lucky.

Here's to a great week even though it is off to a questionable start.

Have a great day!

Lets see. We are having tornados again today. I am still working with Ethan on his alphabet although a little less intense over the w/e to give the poor kiddo a break. Ripped my yard apart yesterday. Saturday we spent in Disney. I am "attempting" the C25K program. Wish me luck.

I am taking a 'Sick week" from work this week. With my injured finger, typing is "interesting". My job requires me to gather and input information in a 60-75 second time frame.(spelling counts!) The software requires the use of that Tab key by your left pinkie. When I try to use my other fingers, I keep hitting the caps lock. It is best that I use the sick days I have and stay home. And posting more can be construed as practice or even rehab to see if getting back to work will be possible. ( so far this kinda hurts)

I do plan to do some sewing today. I need to play with my new serger and prepare for the Coverlock stitch lesson I get on Saturday so I am making DD a dress and myself some exercise/dance pants.

Kim - I look forward to hearing about your weekend trip!

I don't know what that is but I will definatlty wish you luck - and with the tonradoes as well!

Are you doing a Disney race?

Kinda sounds like us over here then :)

We get 6 weeks off in summer, then a week off in October (around Halloween), two weeks for Christmas, then that February week off (around Valentines day) before our two week Easter break. Then one final week off at the end of May before being back in until the end of July then those 6 weeks off and the cycle starts again!

I find it really hard not "wishing my life away" by counting down to the next break, if you know what I mean :scared1:

:goodvibes
Wow! sounds great! I am counting down to my next day off- May 31st for memorial day. yep, my next day off isn't for 4.5 months. how sad is that? I started a new job and won't accrue any vacation until i am here 3 months. we don't get any time off for Easter either. Sometimes I really wish I had gone into teaching, i know it is hard work, but i love kids and the schedule can't be beat! i am too lazy to consider changing my career now at 36 though.

I'm planning my baby brother's 40th birthday, which is next month and it's ever so slightly depressing me, I just can't believe he's going to be 40. I'm also comptemplating taking down my Christmas tree later. :teeth:
lol at the Christmas tree- a neighbor of mine still has a pumpkin out and it is looking pretty nasty.

I started a diet and workout plan called "insanity" this week, so I've been fighting through that. Other than that, working and having fun as usual! Wed is my day off from work and workouts, so I think I'll go to a park for a day. Maybe DHS so I can try and beat my 204k TSM score
I haven't heard of this one- what is it?

We are interviewing contractors for our kitchen remodel. After waiting 14 years in this house, we finally have saved enough to do it. Scary, expensive and thrilling.

I knew I didn't have inexpensive taste, but I never realized how expensive my taste really is! :scared1:
good luck! i want to do this as well if we stay in our house.

Life with an 8 month old baby basically consists of:
6am wakeup *groan* change diaper, feed, play, nap, change diaper, feed, play, nap, change diaper, feed, play, nap, change diaper, feed, play, down for the night and then Mama crashes until the 2am feeding time.
Murmph

Darn good thing the little critter is so cute! ;)
ah- those are the days- hard work, but great rewards! enjoy it!

starting week 5 at the new job. Had a big sales meeting last week, so catching up a bit today. i also have made it a rule to NOT get online that much on the weekends and instead focus on spending time with my son/family. as a working mom, those weekends are precious! So spending some time catching up on facebook, email etc. this am.

Heading to Target at lunch to do some returns and find a fireplace screen hopefully on clearance/sale!

also debating whether i want to start weight watchers again or not. I need to do something to get motivated. I can't find time to exercise other than 2-3 classes a week (pilates 2x and a boot camp friday am before work) and my eating is awful- that is what kills me- i have horrible eating habits. i am picky- don't even like salad/lettuce! :confused3:rotfl:

That's as exciting as my day is today! oh and what to fix for dinner- what are you having?

Hmmm. What's going on in my life lately (I'll try and sort out what's somewhat interesting lol)

I started my new term of classes last week and had my first art class on Saturday. I got a list of all the supplies needed and ended up spending over 200 dollars on all of them! :scared1: It is a good thing I'm an an art major, I can't imagine how someone would feel spending all that money if they were just taking the class as an elective lol.

I'm currently living with my family to catch up on some bills, and my highly dysfunctional brother moved out this weekend, but then came over yesterday for my mom's birthday and brought his girlfriend, whom none of us had met before...this girl is crazy. After being at the house for 5 minutes she started calling my mom and dad "mom" and "dad"...I thought I was going to straight up sock her.

I have been sick since Friday, so trying to get this nasty cold to leave and get some rest in between my busy life events has been pretty difficult, hoping to feel better this week!!!

My life is pretty boring right now- very much feeling like every other person in their last year of school- e.g. WHAT THE HECK AM I GOING TO DO WITH MY LIFE?!?!

I can't get into teaching college because the places are so hard to come by, so my life is on hold for a year until I get more 'life experience'.

My current long term, long distance relationship is going well, but it is harder and harder to be away from each other, especially not knowing where he is going to be next year! It could be the other end of the country for all we know!

Friendships at uni are getting a bit stretched at the minute as everyone is stressing about our final year and the rest of our lives. Plus I get the distinct feeling that my main group of friends doesn't want me around any more! (I am a paranoid person, but now it is just getting obvious)

Ok, sorry for the vent, but I am just feeling a bit down at the moment. Not helped by the pile of books next to me that I need to read. :(

Hey Kate, I'm so sorry you feel this way, I can feel your pain on "what's going to be of my future". I'm studying at film school and in two years I'll have to start making things work to go the USA, because there I can have a better education on what I want to do. I have a boyfriend too and thinking about the future is a little bit overwhelming sometimes. I've been in the past in a long distance relationship..so I get your pain. About your friends, unfortunately life is like this, lots of people pass by but only real friends will be throughout all your life. So don't get paranoid and just enjoy yourself when you are hanging out with them and if they doesn't want to..well they just doesn't deserve you. If you need someone to talk to I'm here, we are the same age so I can understand lots of the things you are passing through because I am also. You know here in the DIS you can always vent, we are all friendly in here :) and very supportive.

That sounds like the makings of a good sitcom! You should take notes and submit a script to someone .... nothing like making a bundle of cash off the relatives :rotfl2:

I think I'd want to sock her too.....
