The Countdown to 2013 - Join me! List Started!

We're in CT. And we are driving down too. I started filling up my pinterest with road trip ideas last night. We have driven each time we went and for the most part I really enjoy it. We had a five hour drive last weekend though and for some reason it really dragged, so i want to have as many ideas at the ready as possible...

Oct 2013 - POR, Alligator Bayou (first resort stay!) :)
We loved POR. If we weren't a family of 6 now it would be our first choice.

Have you made the drive down before? We're driven as far south as South Carolina and I wanted to jump out onto oncoming traffic! I keep trying to convince myself (and my BF) to drive instead of fly but it just seems like it would take so long!

My mom wants me to get on pinterest. She sells stuff on Etsy and links stuff on pinterest now b/c someone on Etsy told her too. She wants me to make a pinterest, so I can put her stuff on it too.

The plan was to drive from Texas to WDW. The drive is about a 17 1/2 hour drive without stopping for food and gas. The problem is, now that we've had to move the trip I don't know if we'll have the time. It would mean either taking days off our trip, or the DSs missing 7 days of school.

I know that feeling! If it's just the two of you and you don't need a car while there, it might be more feasible to fly. We have 6 so it's never more feasible to fly, lol

I just started on pinterest, I keep forgetting about it :confused3

That is a helluva haul! We drive to S FL every year to get my mom and I'm going crazy by the time we hit West Palm Beach. Orlando is 9hrs from here, and I feel like it's a 'short trip' compared to the 12-13 we usually do :)

We have driven it three times going is great we usually drive straight through:thumbsup2 Coming home is when I feel like you do like jumping out into oncoming traffic :rolleyes1 I don't like to fly but I think I will when we go, even if my family has to drug/drag me on the plane :scared1:

Have you made the drive down before?
Yes, in 06 we drove and it was just hte four of us and in 09 and 11 we drove down with the 6 of us. It is basically a 24 hour drive because we stop so much, but I like it. Sometimes life is a little crazy and I really like the time to talk with DH. And everyone is so tired the ride home is actually pretty quiet.

I just realized today it would probably help my etsy friends so I pinned their stuff.

6 here too! Love traveling with a big crew :cloud9:

Ever single time DH says we should get a hotel room at the mid point but I just cannot handly the thought of sitting / sleeping then sitting. Yuck. So I take the overnight shift. My oldest daughter stayed awake with me the last two times and it is fun to listen to bad radio and chit chat all night. Especially when the 3:30am giggles set in :rotfl2:

April 20 - May 4 2013

1st week off-site timeshare
2nd week AOA LM room (hopefully)

Cant WAIT! :cool1:

Ms. Grumpy, my "tentative" trip dates for 2013 are Friday, May 31st to Saturday, June 8th.

Got you all added!

I REALLY like seeing that in writing! :goodvibes:woohoo: Thanks Mrs. Grumpy for starting this thread.

No problem. I enjoy doing it. It helps pass the time. Glad we are getting more people to join in.

I'll have to get on pinterest tomorrow. I tried to avoid it b/c I keep being told how addicting it is. I'm afraid it'll take away from DIS time.

I truly admire those of you with a big family. I don't know how y'all do it and keep your sanity. We stopped at 2, b/c of my health. My DH (and his father) wanted me to have enough boys for a football team. You know us Texans and our love of football. :lmao: If I had a girl or two in there, that was ok, but they wanted me to keep going with having boys. My fil still picks at me that I only had 2. I then remind him that his other son only had 1. I was able to convince my DH by the end of my 2nd pregnancy to stop at one. That way we could play "man on man defense" with the kids.

No one said I was sane ;)

I think it is great families come in all sizes. The bigger family limits my onsite options a little, but it isn't too hard, I still have plenty of choices.. We tried off site last time for the space (and $$ ) but are headed back on site this time.

Oh and I am going to be terrible at keeping this a surprise, I almost told my son something today :headache:

(yes, I have a year to go and I am already a non stop chatterbox...)

I kwym!!! I havent told my kids, only because the last three planned trips had to be changed due to finances then my ds had sports conflicts, then the school calendar change  so I keep saying 'if we go' the 2 eldest just roll their eyes, as if to say, we'll never get back there, so I talk to my 3yo about it, lol. She has been talking about the castle forever, so when they hear her say anything it's normal,:) Thank God my friend is a fellow Disney freak, and she's over for coffee every morning, because DH really doesn't want to hear anything after the initial 'we're going'

Count us in! We'll be at BWV from 2/1-2/5. We're going down to celebrate my youngest DDs 13th birthday!:woohoo:

That is exactly why I am not saying anything. Worst feeling is having to postpone a trip and then tell the kids :sad1: so I am trying to avoid that road. That and DH has these big ideas about how he wants to do it. We disagree about WHEN to tell them though. I want to give them a few weeks notice so if they get a bunch of disney gift cards for Christmas next year they aren't bummed. He wants us all to be headed to the car (to go out to eat, etc. or if we are out and going to the car to come home) and have the car windows painted with - we're going to disney world, a stuffed mickey driving, balloons.. the whole big shebang, just waiting for them and then get in the car and go..... We have plenty of time to decide.. ;)

:yay: BWV looks like such an awesome resort.

That's an AWESOME way to tell them, Undercover Mama! The girls would LOVE that (especially if Stitch and Thumper stuffed animals were waiting on them inside! :rotfl2:). I'm hoping BWV will be a good fit for us. Both of the DDs were skeptical about Epcot, but it did end up being our absolute favorite park. Being able to take the foot path over is just too good to pass up, and the nightlife will keep the DH happy. He would rather go to Downtown Disney and people watch, so maybe the boardwalk will pacify him a bit. We'll miss Pop, though. We all truly loved it there, it was cheerful and bright and fun. :yay: But, I'm drawn to the theming at BC and BWV more than any other deluxe resorts, and this is a splurge trip, so we're going to give it a whirl!

I'm not sure either, I might fill a huge box Christmas Eve with some helium filled mylar balloons and have them open it on Christmas morning, or just not say anything and pick them up from school early and go, we usually go to FL to pick up my mom each year, so I would have them under the pretense that's what were doing until we get to Orlando, maybe pop in the vacation planning dvd, I really have NO clue! :confused3 Ooohh.Ooooh.Oooohh!!!! how cool would it be to have someone record a message for them at MK saying something about them going to DW and then pop that in the dvd player!!!:dance3::banana:

I absolutely love the theme of these two resorts. My gf and I always said if we ever get a girls weekend these would be our choices.:cloud9:

Love all the ideas you guys are having with surprising your kids. That would be so much fun to do.

I love reading all these good Pop reviews. It is on our list of possible resorts (I think on scenario 3, 5 AND 6 so it's a definite contender LOL)

I love the balloon box, that is the idea that I suggested. Thought we could do it maybe a few weeks ahead of the trip with the balloons floating up and a countdown calendar in the bottom of the box. But your DVD thing sounds pretty cute and I know a couple people going this year... Definitely something to think about. Same with the planning DVD. That would be fun to put on in the minivan...

OK we're like 2 years away and I'm already changing things! :rolleyes1 We're opting to stay at the BC instead of BLT!

No one said I was sane ;)

Will you stop!!!! :rotfl2::lmao: ((I have to go change my underwear now))

I told hubby today at lunch we're going to Disney June of next year. Son didn't catch it, and I'm glad...looking to surprise him as he'll be old enough to understand when the time comes where we're going. Hubby just nodded his head and was like, okay. :rolleyes1 He makes it TOO easy for me! :woohoo:
