my friends mother was in surgery today and she posted this on her care page..
Sugery concluded at 1:13pm. We spoke with Dr. Rudich and are very disappointed with the results.
He started with removing her right kidney, which was badly damaged and connected to the tumor. As he began working on the vena cava, two more spots of cancer were discovered on her liver. The retroperitoneal sarcoma had attached itself to her pancreas and other major organs as well as obstructing her left kidney.
We were told that this type of cancer usually doesn't respond well to radiation or chemotherapy and we're not sure how fast the tumor is growing.
I feel so terrible for her. My friend and her mother are best friends. I have never seen a mother and daughter closer.
I really don't know what to say. i think that at a moment like this no matter what I would say it would be somehing that would upset her. I know she is going to want to talk about it . I just don't want to say the wrong thing to her. I dunno, I am sure it will come to me. She is my best friend and I have never been at a loss for words before...
(sorry , don't mean to ramble...just thinking out loud.)

There was a stand selling hummus and some cucumber dill dip. I tried it and bought it along with pita chips.
The pita chips are a good alternative though.
They started playing with a squishy ball -- dodgeball on atrampoline?? It was interesting and they had a blast beaning each other with the ball and tossing it over the sides.
