my friends mother was in surgery today and she posted this on her care page..

Sugery concluded at 1:13pm. We spoke with Dr. Rudich and are very disappointed with the results.

He started with removing her right kidney, which was badly damaged and connected to the tumor. As he began working on the vena cava, two more spots of cancer were discovered on her liver. The retroperitoneal sarcoma had attached itself to her pancreas and other major organs as well as obstructing her left kidney.

We were told that this type of cancer usually doesn't respond well to radiation or chemotherapy and we're not sure how fast the tumor is growing.

I feel so terrible for her. My friend and her mother are best friends. I have never seen a mother and daughter closer.

I really don't know what to say. i think that at a moment like this no matter what I would say it would be somehing that would upset her. I know she is going to want to talk about it . I just don't want to say the wrong thing to her. I dunno, I am sure it will come to me. She is my best friend and I have never been at a loss for words before...

(sorry , don't mean to ramble...just thinking out loud.)

Then tell her exactly that.

"I don't know what to say, I feel so terrible, and I am at a loss for words. You and your mother are so close, I have never seen a closer mother and daughter. You are my best friend."

I don't know that she would take your words, regardless of what you said, in the wrong way. And I think sometimes it's not so much the words, just the being there.

HI Alex!

On a goofy note...

I send my Mom emails about funny things the kids say. Today's was a list of some new words DS4 has learned:

Ploblem: problem, as in "we solve the ploblem"
Chuthers: each other, as in "they went with their chuthers"
Howdabout: how about, as in "howdabout you give me a cookie?"
Beeping: beating, as in "my heart is beeping!"
Attitube: attitude, as in "Mama, I don' like dat attitube!" (When I tell him no.)

I also told her about the issue DS was having this week with the other little boy in preschool. And she responded thusly:

Hi ...I think [DS]'s ploblem is that at 4, he and his chuthers have already got attitube! Howdabout that? He is using some pretty big words for a little guy though. I hope he and [the other boy] can call a truce and learn to get along at school. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Awwww, thanks, pixster! That's sweet! :goodvibes

DH grilled some steaks for dinner. They were thinner than normal, and burned in parts. I gave the boys and DH the unburned parts. That's true love, I tells ya! ;)

We also had baked potatoes and some cut-up fresh pear. It was good, but my tummy's been a bit off today. I wonder if I'm PMSing. I used to get really queasy just before that time of the month, and since the hysterectomy, I never know when that time is anymore. :lmao:

Awww...well that's cool that you had a great dinner. That's a bummer that some parts of the steak were burnt but it's the thought that counts :goodvibes:

I took my grandma to the farmer's market at the local mall. I bought seedless grapes that are really sweet and also some corn and a tomato. I also ate a yummy pork tamale there. :) There was a stand selling hummus and some cucumber dill dip. I tried it and bought it along with pita chips.

The boys are downstairs watching TV, and I think DH is with them. (If he's not, I should be...) :rolleyes1

I love hummus if it's done right, but my fave is babajanoush ('h' sound for the 'j'), which is similar but made with burnt eggplant instead of garbanzo beans.) Heaven!!!

The cucumber dill dip sounds yummy! So does the corn, for that matter. :rotfl:

I wonder if there's a 12-step program for corn? :lmao:

:rotfl: That would be interesting if there was a 12-step program for corn. :rotfl2: The cucumber dill dip is really good. They had pita bread and various dips to sample but they ran out of pita bread for sale. :( The pita chips are a good alternative though. :thumbsup2

Sam was talking about some sort of multi-grain chips or crackers or something at our local grocery chain, Fred Meyer. She said they were really good, and I meant to get some the last time we went shopping, but forgot. I'll have to ask her about them again.

I've seen some multi-grain chips at Trader Joe's and I bought some from Costco. The ones at Costco are awesome and taste really good. My mom tried it and she likes it too. :goodvibes

I'm back, noisy gift delivered and appreciated by the nephew, so much that he ran outside to play with it and completely forgot about his gluten free cake and rice milk "ice cream" that he had been begging for all day long.

:lmao:

He got a trampoline too- that we all helped put together, it was up but needed the side netting tied.

Tossed the lil guy inside with his funny leg casts , he was quite safe bouncing inside and no worries of him falling off-- unlike my mom's trampoline which has no safety sides.

Of course the older boys had to have their turn, my BIL being the biggest and most obnoxious of the bunch:laughing: They started playing with a squishy ball -- dodgeball on atrampoline?? It was interesting and they had a blast beaning each other with the ball and tossing it over the sides.

BIL went a bit crazy and nearly knocked out their backyard light, close call with garage window as well.. he just laughed-- ohhh cooooool.

DORK

Anyway, it was fun and a lil eyebrow raising as always.. nephew has no impulse control .. getting unruly as he gets older. They think he is ADHD with his autism.. how's that for challenging behavior? :scared:

My nephew was diagnosed as ADHD first, then later they thought he was mildly autistic. Not sure if that meant 'instead of' or 'in addition to'. But his case was different, he basically had a non-involved father and a completely permissive mother, ie. anything goes. Very sad indeed. :sad2:

I'm watching my Disney Rarities DVD. It has a cartoon I like that has Humphrey the Bear and the park ranger. They sing that song about picking up trash. First you stick a rag, put in the bag, bump bump
Then you bend your back, put it in the sack, bump bump
That's the way it's done, it's a lot of fun, bump bump
Cuttin' capers puttin' papers in the bag
:rotfl:

Here's a better photo of the reusable Jack Skellington bag I bought at Disney Store. It will be perfect for MHT and it only cost $2.50! They also had one of Wall-E. :goodvibes

Nothing much going on, just hanging out and checking my email.

Hoping my mom has an address for my DNtheMarine trademark .

But then I talked to my sis and she said "oh? I'm not sure if he is there yet." She talks to my brother more frequently than any of us.. appreantly DN was to have one long weekend home before his deployment. News to me, considering he would fly thru the Twin Cities, you think he would have arranged to say hello/goodbye along the way up north to visit his dad ? :confused3

Gee you think we would have made lasting impression on the kid considering we drove each weekend to pick him up on base-- grrrr. Teenagers I tell ya!

Sorry I disappeared, I got sucked in by a stupid political thread. WHY DO I EVEN LOOK??? GEESH, it's like a train wreck in there! :sad2:

Pix, I'm surprised anything at the Disney Store was only $2.50! Nice score! :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

I actually have gotten a few toys there on clearance for pittance every once in awhile. I stocked up and kept 'em for kids' birthday gifts. :woohoo:

Think I'm gonna mosey downstairs and see what's going on with DH and the kids, and maybe log in from the laptop. It's been misbehaving lately, and DH was going to check it out; I always seem to have trouble connecting to the wireless network at first, but usually after shutting the whole thing down a time or two it works. Go figure. :confused3

Cute bag!

They didn't have it at the Mall of America store, only one in MN now.

I did like the bust set and the candle holders of Jack and Sally-- reasonable price. The figurine of Jack was cool but I think they cheaped out on the light up part, only the bottom of the green goo lights up .. they should have put LEDs in the "pouring" part of the fountain.. it would have looked awesome!

Too much for my budget too- yikes!
