The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

OK, I have been procrastinating getting tickets for our first ever NY trip in July, but I finally did it.
Waiting bit me in the but, as the only Hedwig tickets we could get, are 3rd row balcony (couldn't pay $300+ for the premium seats). Thank goodness I got those Friday because it's now sold out for the entire week we are there for regular tickets. But at least we will be in the building!!!
And we also bought tickets for The Cripple of Inishmaan, very excited about both shows!!! Much better seats for that show :).
With those, and the tickets to see Queen with Adam Lambert, I think we should be pretty set!!!

Just back from our Memorial weekend trip. We went to see Aladdin (LOVED IT!) and Les Mes. I've seen that 5 times. I just love this show. When we go back Labor Day weekend we are going to see Rocky. We are sitting in a section call The Golden Circle. The last 20 min. of the show they take us all up on stage to sit in bleachers for the last fight. Then I will be able to say that I was an extra in a Broadway Musical!:) How cool is that! :thumbsup2

We have tickets to see Gentleman's guide to love and murder. Going in July. Has anyone seen it? Thoughts?

We saw one of the leads play Mary Poppins in London and she was amazing. Hope she is just as good is this.

CONGRATULATIONS!! My daughter is involved in her first college production as a part of costume crew for Les Mis. She is SO excited, and we are thrilled to get to go see the show!! Enjoy your time with this magnificent piece of musical theatre!!

Mine just auditioned for Les Mis again at another theatre and is yet again- a hooker LOL. She has more parts in this one than in the last one though. She really loves the show so she will do it anytime its around! We are going to see it on Broadway next month.

Headed to NYC in 10 days for a long theatre weekend. First time in several years. My DD was in NYC doing her senior project for high school. She came home raving about Bryan Cranston in All the Way. So, I decided to go see it. Then I saw that Kenneth Branagh was doing Macbeth and I was able to get tickets (the whole run is now sold out). I am so excited to see these two shows. We are seeing Alvin Ailey and are going to try and get tickets to Much Ado About Nothing in the Park. We will be able to see two additional shows but we have not decided on which ones? Any suggestions?

Just got back from Hedwig and the Angry Inch. That was mind-blowing. I want Neil Patrick Harris to win everything on Sunday night!

That should be a lot of fun! I did the stage seating for Xanadu and it was an absolute blast and that production was performed in a circus tent rather than a proper theatre so yours should be even better!

Well we figured it out. We have tickets for 6 shows in 4 days, with the hope of a 7th show.

Wed: Arrive PM
Thursday: Macbeth @ 7
Friday: All the Way (also go to the MET)@ 8
Saturday: Casa Valentina @ 2 pm
Realistic Joneses @ 8 pm
Hedwig and the Angry Inch @ 10 pm
Sunday: Alvin Ailey @ 3
Much Ado About Nothing in the Park (if get tickets) @ 8

Looking forward to having a lot of fun. Saturday will be wild, I have not done 3 shows in one day since I was in my 20s, and that was about 30 years ago.

Will there be time to see two shows starting 2 hours apart?

Of course there is. The theaters are about two blocks apart and the Realistic Joneses is 90 minutes long. It will work out well.

Never heard of Realistic Joneses and figured it must be a relatively short show. Have fun.

My dd and I saw Of Mice and Men Thursday and LOVED LOVED LOVED IT...If Chris O'Dowd does not win the Tony I will be surprised..he was brilliant. You just wanted to get out of your seat, run on stage and hug the big lug. In fact the whole cast was outstanding, so much so that I am shocked it was not nominated for best revival. If you go, bring tissues because you will definitely need them.

Jim - thank you. I will report back when we return. We don't go for another 10 days. The Realistic Joneses is new. The NY times gave it a very good review. Seems new, different, and a bit absurdist in style. My theatre friend and I like to try new plays, we will let you know what we think when we return. We wanted to get to tickets ahead of time since I need wheelchair seating - advantage is that the seats are discounted; disadvantage- the number of wheelchair seats are limited. Now I just need to organize the hotel and seeing friends. We have plane tickets already. My DH thinks it is a lot of shows but that is why he is going fishing, and my friend and I are going to NYC.

I just booked tickets for Matilda for our New York trip in November! I love the score for it so I'm really excited to see it!

So far we have:
Tuesday: Book of Mormon
Friday: Matilda
Saturday: Kinky Boots

I'm praying If/Then will still be on then so we can see it on the Wednesday. I love Idina and I love the score (I can't stop listening to it!) so I'm desperate to see it!

Thursday is Thanksgiving so I don't know that anything will be open. We might add something last minute for Sunday, either through TKTS or my Audience Rewards points should have come through by then so there might be a deal there. It will be our last full day in NYC though, so I'm not too sure.

I'm so excited to see so many shows in one week...and a bit overwhelmed by the number of shows open in the one city! It's very different to the theatre scene in Australia - I think there's currently only 4 professional shows playing in the entire country (plus one only a few weeks away) and they're all revivals!

Well any Tony chitchat??? I was so thrilled to so Jessie Meuller win for Beautiful. I am currently obsessed with that cast recording!! And watching Carole King sing with the cast made me soooo happy!! Hoping to see it this August!!! :yay:

My daughter and her friend are going into the city this month to see that. Glad to hear its good!

Hi! Anyone have any thoughts on the box seats for Aladdin?

I need some recommendations. Dh wants to take some foreign visitors to see a show. This will most likely be in Aug. Also price will be a factor to consider.

The show shouldnt be offensive in either language, dress etc. I dont know if some of the show would get lost in translation so to speak, so I am thinking more on the lines of a musical.

I am clueless. I looked at Broadway box just to see the shows and I am thinking Lion King, but would that be too kidish for the adults? All attending would be adults, Phantom of the Opera?

Any ideas?

I'd choose Phantom over Lion King. Lion King rarely has discounts and Phantom seems to have them all the time, so if price is a factor that is definitely something to consider.

I think Lion King is impressive for any age and easier to follow if you aren't a native English speaker.
