Have a great trip! All three of those shows are fantastic!

I got to go backstage at Aladdin today. It was so fun! My co-worker's brother works there, and he had to drop something off for him today, so he invited a few of us to come along and we got a little tour after their matinee today.

We saw a ton of the props and sets, including the magic carpet. We also saw the Genie - James Monroe Iglehart was there chatting with some friends.

And we got to go on the stage too. My friend took a picture of me standing on the trap door that the Genie makes his entrance from.

It was really cool! I loved the show when I saw it in May, so it was a blast to get to go behind-the-scenes. Now I want to see the show again...

Just wanted to share that I used my Audience Rewards points to get tix for Mamma Mia for $12!! Good seats too.
But I then bought tix for Phantom of the Opera tix for this sat night (to hear Sierra Boggess!). Well it all evens out.

I went to Les Mis last week Thursday night and made a point out of looking at what people were wearing, I saw one man in a suit seated next to a couple in jean shorts and tshirts, most people were wearing jeans, khakis or shorts. VERY few were dressed nicer than that- oh I did see 2 people dressed up with their little boy in a suit too on the way out...

I was VERY disappointed in Les Mis- we had understudies for 8 roles, 4 of them main roles. Unfortunately the role of Eponine was NOT an understudy and she was horrible. That is the one role I would have preferred the understudy! I think the local playhouse I saw it in was actually better.

We knew since it was Thursday that Ramin Karimloo was not there- they announced after we bought tickets that he was off every Thursday. But we didn't think they would understudy Cossette, Fantine, Enjoles and others the same night!

We got back Saturday night, we saw Hedwig and Cripple, and they were both AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Loved every second of both of them. I was worried my husband would hate Hedwig, but NPH was so incredible, that he ended up loving it.
I broke my rule, which is jeans in the theater, for the matinee of Cripple. I wore my nicest denim capris with a nice top, because we were going out after, and it was quite warm outside. There were people sitting behind us in workout wear, the lycra capris, and body hugging lycra racer back tank tops.

Can anyone tell me if Les Mis is appropriate for an almost 13 year old? She saw the movie when it came out on dvd but I did fast forward through a few parts.

I wanted to take my mom for her birthday but am not sure if I should let her go or not.

That would probably be a personal preference. But if there are parts of the movie you did not want her to watch, the stage show would not be any better. There is some pretty adult subject matter.

Last night in Atlantic City there was a free outdoor performance featuring the casts from various Broadway shows. They had three or four songs each from Rocky, Pippin, and Chicago. Next Monday it's Rock of Ages, Bullets Over Broadway, and Beautiful-The Carole King Musical. They had one last Monday night also, but I didn't go and don't recall the shows featured.

Saw Kinky Boots in NY on Sunday.

My daughter saw Hedwig and the Angry Inch and said that was much worse than les mis, we saw rock of ages a couple years ago and les mis is nothing compared to that.

agreed, was so glad my dd was 15 the first time we saw Rock of Ages, that one has plenty of questionable moments!!! And Hedwig, is borderline for even some adults I'm guessing!

I was there on Friday night and our group actually had an 11 year old who loved it. There are a couple of risque parts that I think just went over her head.

There were a couple understudies (Eponine & Marius) on Friday but thank goodness Ramin was there! He was fantastic! Also, Marius' understudy was absolutely wonderful and even though I was first disappointed it was great and he's absolutely adorable - yep, we met him and talked to him for a little bit.

She's upset that she can't audition for our community theatre's production of Footloose because the high school theatre department is doing a Mystery Dinner on opening night. She's a VP on the Theatre Council so it's a requirement.

I'm sorry. It is so hard when shows and commitments conflict. Six years ago I was going to audition for Ragtime. About 2 weeks before the audition I found out I was pregnant with DS #1. There went that dream!

Funnily enough, my stage debut was exactly 10 years ago today in my high school production of Fiddler on the Roof!

It is still the best production I've ever been in - it won an award for best junior production in the state and the actors playing Tevye and Golde won best junior male and female respectively (and when I found the list of nominees recently I found our Golde had beaten a young Anna O'Byrne who is Christine on the Love Never Dies DVD!). Even though I too was 'just ensemble' and one of the youngest in the cast, it was still the most enjoyable experience I had in the theatre - the years I had bigger roles were actually the least enjoyable for me.

I'm heading into Boston today to see Finding Neverland today. It's eying a Broadway run so it will be interesting if it makes it and I can see it there and have something to compare it to! I know it's based on the movie, which I haven't seen, so I'm going into this completely open-minded. I'm also meeting up with one of my good friends from college, who is currently on a bus to Boston from NYC now. Let's just hope the weather holds up and it doesn't rain too much!

Just saw my daughter in Fiddler last night ironically... she's Chava. It really is a nice show. As far as the old classics go... it's one of the good ones!
