~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Howard - Sorry to hear about the foot. I saw your message on FB. I'll catch up with you tomorrow.

Dave - A.C. is in NJ, not NY. However, it seems like lots of people from NYC gamble in AC.

It looks like I missed a lot today. I thought the day started off with a marathon in Baltimore that included free beer. That's all I need to sign up. However, did I read that Colleen vetoed the race?

Went to the Flyers game with Louie tonight. They lost to the Caps 2-1 (tough game). The cool thing was that we saw Bernie Parent, Bob "The Hound" Kelly, and Gary Dornhoefer before the game and got them to autograph our tix and Louie's jersey. I'm sure those names are meaningless to most people but those guys won 2 Stanley Cups for the Flyers in the 1970's. Louie thought it was cool...so did I.

Lou

Howard: Sorry about your foot. I hope everything is ok after a night of icing and rest. Good luck tomorrow with the doc.

In terms of upcoming stuff for us I think we are doing Broad Street, then the DL 1/2 and probably the Philia ING after that ? Atlantic City is tempting-- close to home and to a sitter for us.

Lou

No, no, I just said I may not be able to make it. Y'all go ahead. I will try and be there if I can, but I think that is the same weekend as our swim season opener. Free beer!:thumbsup2

Howard, sorry your foot is causing you more trouble, I hope you get this figured out!

My vehicle is packed and DD and I are off to Raleigh for our championship swim meet in 5 minutes. She is feeling good, so we might see quite a few times drop this weekend.

Howard - Will be waiting for an update - so sorry to hear the foot's giving you trouble  .

OK, keeping the conversation going.

The next weekend we have on Oct 18:
Atlantic City, NY
Toronto, ON
Mt Desert Island, ME

Toronto sounds interesting
I think the Mt. Desert Island is only a full, so that would be a no for me
AC would be easy to get to, but the race gets horrible reviews.

How about the Adirondack Marathon on Sept 20th? popcorn:: Fly into Albany, no worries!

adirondackmarathon.org

How far is it from Albany?

What about Richmond since it sounds like Mike and Colleen are already going to be there?

Mike – If I had actually been doing any real running over the past 2 months, I would definitely join you. However, I feel like I really need to get a long run in tomorrow and I know if I ran a 5K, there is no way I’d run more miles – I’m just too lazy. And I won’t run on Sunday because I am going out for some St. Patty’s day celebration drinking at the Irish Pub. Good luck tomorrow! I am interested to hear how you do. I think you have the ability to get a really good 5k time.

Howard - I hope all goes well today.

Thank you for all of your concern and well wishes.

I spent over an hour at the Christiana Care Medical Aid Unit this afternoon (taking up my lunch time) and came out of there knowing nothing more than I did going in.

I could have diagnosed and planned my care better than they did. I didn't see a Doctor. I saw a Physicians Assistant. :confused3 She said that since I didn't have an incident (twist of the foot, something drop on it, etc.) it can't be a regular fracture. She said it could possibly be a stress fracture but that won't show up on an x-ray.... I would need a bone scan of the foot for that.

She said that since it just started to hurt last night, it hasn't been given time to heal/feel better. I should stay off of it for a few days, take motrin 3 x a day and make an appointment with my podiatrist. He can look at it and make a diagnosis and/or order a bone scan.

I told her it hurts and I don't want to limp around for days in pain on what might be a broken foot. She said she'd prescribe vicodin for the pain and I said no thanks. :sad2: Then she said that I should take an anti-inflamatory for a few days, then see the podiatrist if it still hurts. She wrote me a script for crutches for God's sake. What a useless and wasted hour of my life. Here I am knowing nothing more than I did going in, still in pain and having had no lunch.

Lou called me and I am planning on picking up my packet and cheering him on on Sunday. There's nothing like supporting a fellow BOT. I am looking forward to it.

I am planning on calling my podiarist on Monday and setting up a follow up appointment for later in the week to get this one diagnosed and finally resolved once and for all. I am dying to get out there to run again.

:grouphug:

Howard

UGH!
Howard, I read about your status on FB. I'm so sorry that your lunch hour was so frustrating & a complete waste of time! Doctors can be so useless @ times. Have you tried manipulating the foot at all, yourself? Moving it around, rotating, push/pull against resistance? I don't know what to tell you, but if your temperment is anything like mine you were fit to be tied when you walked out of there today. This really sucks. Any swelling anywhere? If I were you & it feels worse tomorrow, I'd just go down to the ER first thing in the a.m. & tell them you were running & had acute onset of foot pain. :sad2: I couldn't wait until the middle of next week.
Take care:hug:

BTW, When my foot was buggin' me earlier in the year (or was it late last year?) I really concentrated on my abs to get my mind off things. Runner's World has some really great/tough ab stuff. Try it out, at least it'll let out some agression!

A highly recommended and noble deed.:worship:

Lou
Good luck Sunday.

Really good luck Sunday.:dance3:

Lou - Good luck tomorrow! Have a great time, the weather should be perfect.

Mike - Have fun @ your 5k, hope the little princesses make you Jennifer Beale-proud out there on the dancin' float!:cutie: :rotfl:

Cindy - Don't drink too much!! popcorn::

Howard - How's the foot?

I got in 6 today & it felt great  .

Howdy Doodies,

Howard - Feeling any different today?

Jodi - WTG on the 6 miles. You have officially supplanted (is that a word?) Cindy as the training machine. Are you joining one of those every day streak (not streaking) running thingys?

Lou - Good luck on your race. I hope it goes well for you.

Cindy - Don't listen to Jodi. Drink too much!

Hey to everyone else.

Well, I did my first 5K today. Why do people subject themselves to such torture?? I had to go back after the race to collect my internal organs.:scared1: I had some fast teeny-bopper teacher (really 25 y.o.) from the girl's elementary school chasing me down so that kept me moving at the end. No official results yet but my watch said 21:46.

I'll try to get some miles in tomorrow. Nice, easy, relaxed miles. None of this "run like a girl's going to pass you" crappola.

Hey Bots!!

Mike - Nice job with the 5K and not letting that girl beat you.:thumbsup2 I bet if she tried to pass you you were fully prepared to hip check her.

Jodi - Nice job with the 6 miles.

Cindy - I missed the post why you are drinking but have one for me.

Howard - You made the right call. No sense risking a bad injury before the race season even gets started. Heal up that heel.

Trying to get mentally prepared for the first race of 2009...Caesar Rodney Allen Rippey. I looked at my race data from last year and, man, this is a hilly race. By far this is the hilliest race I ever ran. From what I can see Mile 6-8 is straight uphill. Mile 10-12 is all downhill. Whatever, it's time to run.

It stinks that Howard isn't running. It would have been nice to have another Bot running this hilly race with me but it will be cool to have someone cheer me on. Nicole is working until 3AM at the E.R. so she will be sound asleep when I am running.

Hey, the Temple Owls won the A-10! That means Philly will get 2 teams in the tourney this year.

Lou

Caesar Rodney is over! But what a nice race it was this year. 1) I PR'd the course and put up my fastest 1/2 time ever at 1:42:20 (Garmin time); 2) the weather was relatively decent (40 degrees and overcast - little drizzle but not much) and 3) Howard and Cam gave me the first class race treatment.

Let me just say that Howard knows Wilmington like the back of his hand. It seemed like every time I was exhausted running up hills Howard would pop out of no where. He must have found me 5 times throughout the course.

And Cam's law office is right at the starting line so I was able to avoid the long porta potties before the race and hang out at her place. Then afterwards we hung out in the WARM lobby of her office so that I could thaw out. She even had the little personal coffee maker machine which was clutch.

What a rough race but I feel real good about my performance. This is the first race since Philly for me so I have not run this fast for this long in 5 months. And this is a tough course for the first race of the year. Check out the elevation data from the Garmin (Mike - You'll appreciate the elevation data)...

2009-caesar-rodney.jpg

I mean who designs a race that runs straight downhill for the first 2 miles, then levels off, then has a 2+ mile hill from Mile 6-8. You do get to run downhill from mile 10-12 but you're are met with a couple more nasty hills for the last mile including a huge hill for the last 1/4 mile.:scared1:

I felt I was close to a PR time when I hit Mile 11.1 at 1:27. I figured two 8-minute miles and I can PR this thing. I sprinted the rest of Mile 11 but really struggled up that last hill to the finish. I honestly felt close to passing out for that last 1/4 mile. Some guy, who finished, kept screaming at me to "keep taking long strides!" I was like "dude, you take long strides because I am about to puke."

I did do one thing well that I am usually not good at. I ran the tangents REAL tight. I have a tendency of getting too charged up and running all over the course dodging people. I figured with all of the turns and hills on this course that I could not afford to give up any distance so I focused on running straight to a point in the horizon the whole time. It worked because the Garmin read 13.12 miles at the finish.

I'm glad it's over. They gave out medals this year which was a nice touch. After taking that beating I kind of feel they owed everyone a medal. Once again, thanks to Howard and Cam for the first class treatment on a little cold and soggy day.

Below are the stats...

Distance.....Split time.....Elev. chg.
1............6:59............-236
2............7:25............10
3............7:31.............-16
4............7:43............-10
5............7:53............26
6............7:43............-43
7............8:10............86
8............8:13............133
9............8:08............9
10...........8:07............31
11...........7:55............-91
12...........7:35............-72
13...........7:49............89
13.12........1:01............83

:thumbsup2  :cheer2:

AWESOME JOB LOU!!!

WOW, that is one heinous course!! What are they thinking?:guilty: Well, there's another "potential 1/2" I can cross off my list. , holy crap!

And of course you've GOTTA love :lovestruc the support from Cam & Howard :grouphug: , WTG, guys. If I were Howard I would have stayed home & sulked the entire day! :rolleyes1

Lou – Great job! Getting a PR on a hilly course like that is pretty impressive!:cool1:

Howard – I’m really sorry – that just sucks. I hope you can get some answers soon. How is your foot feeling today?

Jodi – You’ve certainly been running a lot - did you decide to register for that half in April?

Mike – Nice job on your first 5K!:thumbsup2

Cindy
Really good luck Sunday.:dance3:

Good one! But not needed - see below.

So, as for me, for a lot of reasons that I will not bore you with, I didn’t end up making it out for the big Irish drinking fest last night. I did run yesterday – 4 miles - and I was pretty excited because it actually felt pretty good. Then I tried to run 10 miles today – didn’t work so well. :sad2: I did get in 8 miserable miles. I think I’m just really out of shape. And my knees are killing me. I’m actually getting a little nervous for the half next weekend – I’m not 100% sure that I can run 13.1 miles. Or - more accurately – I’m not sure I can run 13.1 miles without hurting myself.

Howard - Feeling any different today?

Well, I did my first 5K today.....No official results yet but my watch said 21:46.

Mike and Cindy~ I woke up with the foot feeling a bit better. Unfortunately chasing around after Lou aggrivated it a bit. There is evidently something to resting and staying off of it. I will call tomorrow morning to schedule a time to see my podiatrist. I will be down in lovely Easton, MD for the day on business. My best hope is to see the Doc on Tuesday. I am hoping that this is a non-event. However, I was limping around most of the day so there is something to it.

Mike~ I wanted to comment on your first 5K. That is a great time! I've now run over 45 of them and my PR is a bit slower (24:23). Of course, you are lighter, younger, faster, and you were being chased by a girl. :lmao: I'm sure Kathy and the girls are very proud that she didn't catch you.

I wanted to give a shout out to Lou who PR'ed his Caesar Rodney Half Marathon today. He did an awesome job on a tough course. I was awed by his pace and "in the zone" running at the various points along the course I saw him.

Jodi~ Yes, I could have stayed home and sulked but that is not my style. I wish you could feel how much I wanted to be out there today. Despite the damp cold temps, the sprinkles and the hills that make this a tough course. Just to be part of it, part of the effort that was put forth out there truly makes me want to be out there. I will take a pass on this one and make an investment for future runs.

Cindy~ Hang in there... you can do this. Try to get a couple shorter and successful runs in this week to mentally prepare for the half.

Check out this post from Cam.... it has some of the photos I took in WDW at the BOT meet.

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

Most WISHers are back from the Princess half, and many of us are going through Disney withdrawal in one form or another....

So, to spread a little PD pixiedust: that will keep everyone moving forward with a Tiggerish bounce in our training steps, tomorrow's mixer question is:

Who or what is your favorite Disney character, and why?

We hope that you feel inspired to post some light-hearted Disney memories on the Team 'Ohana thread. Pictures--from races, recent trips, childhood experiences--and stories are welcomed. And if your favorite character is a Pixar one--or gasp, from some other studio--feel free to share that as well.

Lou - Wow! Super, super job! That is all kinds of fast even if it was a flat course. I'm with Jodi. That's one I'll be sure to avoid! Heinous to be sure. You should be very proud.

Howard - That was really great of you to get out there to support Lou. Another example of why you and Cam are such wonderful people.

Thanks for posting the link to Cam's report. There are some good looking folks in some of those pictures.

Bummer that you foot is still hurting, althought I'm betting that the improvement you felt resting it was no fluke. That sounds like the best approach until you get a definite diagnosis. I'll put money on that being the advice down the road as well.

Cindy - Sorry you missed the drink-fest. Usually, "a lot of reasons that I won't bore you with" that results in missing a good polluting is one of the first signs of getting old!

Don't beat yourself up too much about a bad run today. You've got no pressure for the race Saturday. Don't race it, just treat it as an easy long run. Stroll on in if you feel like it then enjoy the free beer at the end.

Jodi - How far did you run today?

Colleen - How did swim meet go?

AFM, I ran a mostly comfortable 7 miles this evening.

I'll have to figure out what sort of a taper I'm going to do this week in prep of the full on Saturday. Probably tomorrow off, a little speedwork on Tuesday, a few recovery miles on Wednesday, then Thursday and Friday off.

Greetings Everyone: I'm in Erie, PA taking the family to Splash Lagoon, so I've been away from my computer. However, I had to check in on my Bots. :surfweb:

Lou- Great job with the Caesar Rodney 1/2. Congrats on the PR. I am majorly impressed.

Howard- You are a great guy for sticking around to cheer on Lou even though you couldn't run. I hope your foot is feeling better soon.

Cindy- Sorry you had such a crappy 8 miler. Good luck with the 1/2 next weekend.

Hello to everyone else. I can't stay on long because I told my family I was "unplugging" for the weekend and staying away from the computer.

I did manage 10 miles on Saturday in around 97 minutes. It was a very easy, relaxed run, and felt great. My calfs were a little tight though. I think I need some new shoes. OK, I gotta go. Talk to you all tomorrow.
