~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Good evening everyone!

As some of you cool people have seen on FaceBook, I am wearing an aircast for two weeks and taking anti-inflammatories. I was diagnosed with a possible stress fracture or soft tissue injury to the foot. The Podiatrist took X-rays which were inconclusive. He said it could be a stress fracture that is too new to show calcification or it may just be a soft tissue injury.

Either way, he would have treated it the same way - immobilize it for a while, order anti-inflammatories and see him in a couple weeks. He said if it still bothers me after two weeks, he'd order either a bone scan or an MRI which would provide the most information on the injury.

So, I'm wearing a aircast that has a Michael Jordan (AIR JORDAN) type air pump incorporated into it. It is wide, heavy and none to attractive (kind of like me). I am also not happy that I'll be traveling to Disney to see my DD next weekend and still have this thing on walking around the Magic Kingdom all day and through the airports. :sad2:

As far as a fall race, it looks like a marathon might not work out for everyone. I recommend the Ridgefield Half Marathon in Ridgefield, CT. I am going to be there, Jodi can run it, Charlie (or Judy and Charlie fame) is running it with me. It should be close to Dave, not too far for Lou, etc. If applicable, BOTS could crash at Jodi's. I do not want to volunteer Judy and Charlie's home, but that would be an option if they were willing. The Ridgefield Half is early in the month (October 4) and it would lead well into a marathon elsewhere later in the month.

Have a great evening!

:grouphug:

I haven't been doing much running lately and have really maximized my Buttness!

Yep, that's funny! It's the quiet ones you have to look out for.

Howard - Sorry for the new footware. You can get Cam to push you around MK in a wheelchair or even better get one of those little scooters. I think I sent Sara a link to The Scooter Store for her birthday a while back. Maybe she can hook you up.

Cam - I would love to get in on the Delaware Marathon action but all 3 princesses have dance recitals that weekend. Thanks so much for the offer though. Hey, maybe I'll drive up on the following Monday for some leftovers. Yumm!!

Debra - It would be great if you and DOOD could join in for some yet to be determined fall race.

Dave - Sorry you got shut out of Pittsburgh. That does stink. Plan B for the spring?

Jodi - What's up D-Bag?

So, did we just pass right over Baltimore?

I was able to get out for a little track work this afternoon. I did 400m intervals with 800m recovery jogs a few times (I'm old. I needed an extra lap to be able to breathe again). Ended up with 5 miles total.

Take it easy all!

Howard – I hope the aircast and rest alleviate your foot pain. All kidding aside, maybe you should consider a wheelchair for MK. Oh, and thanks for the link to the Bot pictures!

Cam – – I could easily be talked into a half in DE in May.

Dave – I hope you had fun at Splash Lagoon!

Sara – Glad to hear that the TM finally showed up!

Debra - Always great to have more join in the fun!

The Ridgefield Half doesn’t work for me (same weekend as the Army Ten Miler).

I’m thinking I may also do Baltimore (the half) even if no one wants to join me.

As for Richmond – it was named the friendliest marathon by Runners World! The weather should be great for running! Also, I have an offer for anyone interested in Richmond. Since it is not easiest (read: cheapest) location to get to, I can give a ride to Richmond (about 90 minutes) to 2 (or 3 if you want to be squished) people who fly or Amtrak into DC.

:rotfl: Ah, yeah Debra!:lmao:

Ha! Me too!

Hi to everyone else! Gotta run (literally). I'm going to get in 4 miles in some crazy thick fog.

Baltimore works better for me both logistically and timewise since we're going to Jamaica 11/21 and I'd prefer not to travel the weekend prior to Richmond. If at least one or two BOTS commit to Baltimore, I plan on signing up for the 1/2 before the April 1st price increase:thumbsup2 Hoping the 4 miles were kind to you this morning:hug:

Mike - See above for Baltimore. I do think I'll commit to that race as a fall endeavor:yay: Nice job on the speedwork:banana:

Howard - :scared: Yikes about the foot and aircast you have to wear during your WDW trip:sad1: That's not a good combination at all so try to stay off it as much as possible in the interim. Hope you have a wonderful time with Jen next weekend:love: .

Jodi - Are you still up for Baltimorepopcorn:: ?

Everyone else - :wave2:

Still running sporadically and think I simply need a good LR with my Garmin and without my puppy to make me feel like a runner again. The TM is great yet I'm dying to get outside in the nice weather.

Baltimore would work for me. I just wouldn't get to see you all as much, but the race would work...

Yay!! Cindy, are you serious? Are you and Matt going to do DE? Did you know there is a 4 person relay for the marathon? If you didn't want to commit to a half or full thatweekend, maybe you and Matt and Howard could be 3 of the 4 and we can find another BOT to be the 4th. That would be so awesome! We'd love to see you guys!

Good morning to some of my favorite people in the world!!

Ok, what else???

Baltimore, you tool!.:lmao: I don't know, you Canadians are SO hard to please!

Alright, BOTS, I say Baltimore for the fall & we just bag Howard (he'll probably need a hip replacement by then anyway) & the Northerner (no doubt her butt will take on an identity of its own by then & won't let her participate anyway) eh? Logistically, it's just so easy. We'll see these other 2 in Disney  .

Received a fair amount of torture from my acupuncture guy yesterday (plus a good tongue-lashing for my lack of participation in my well-being popcorn:: ). Also got 5 miles in.

Howard - Please, soak that foot in hot water & Epsom salt & try to manipulate it a little. This sounds exactly like what I had earlier in the year & it was never clearly diagnosed, but moving the metatarsals around definitely helped.

More later, I actually have to work :rolleyes1 .

the Northerner (no doubt her butt will take on an identity of its own by then & won't let her participate anyway)

:lmao: :rotfl: Oh yes, he/she/it is quite the loner.

I am not closing the door on Baltimore, I would need to take care of a couple of things. DH definitely could not do it. It is too early in the Fall for him.

OK, so please make it happen, it just wouldn't be the same without you. In fact, Mike & Kathy said they'd drive down to NC to pick you up & bring you.

BTW, your, ahem, butt isn't quite the loner you think he/she/it is. He/she/it has its own FB page, as does mine, & they correspond quite frequently.:rotfl: :sad2: .

Dang (look at me, all southern n' all), he/she/it already has a more active social life than I do.

Man, a lot of posts this week. I catch up with some of you on FB but have a hard time getting on this site.

Richmond doesn't really get me excited. I'm up for BALTIMORE. My parents and sister are there so it's easy for me to run and I'll earn points with mom and dad for staying the weekend. I crave salt after a race so some Obrycki's crabs dusted with Old Bay and beer would hit the spot.

Dave - Sorry about Pittburgh. Like I said on FB, you'll love DL. That's a race worth doing once, especially if you run WDW in the same year.

Jodi - My SiL once had her lung punctured when she saw some acupuncture guy who convinced her to try some deep needles. The guy stuck a needle right into her lung. The story of the nurses sticking a big hose into her chest to inflate the lung scared me from ever trying it.

Howard - Glad you are taking care of the foot. Not sure if you want to follow Jodi's advice and just poke and prod the foot. Follow Cindy's advice and get the wheelchair for WDW. Our first trip to WDW we went with a friend who's DD8 was in a wheelchair because of a scooter mishap. It was like having a golden FastPass.

Debra - HI and welcome!!

Sara - As stated above, I am up for Baltimore.

Cam - Thanks for the post race comments. I felt pretty good after that race. It helped having a warm office and soft chair to rest in when it was over.

Colleen - Sorry about your butt.

Hey everyBoty else.

I'm a little drained and under the weather today. A late night of work on Monday and a post-race endrenaline drop has me down. Do any of you guys get sick after races? I have a tendency to get colds right after big races. I was sick as a dog after WDW 2008. Maybe I should be juicing up on orange juice after I run to kill the bugs that are attacking my weak immune system.

Ran 4 lame miles today. Body felt fine but sore throat didn't.

Lou

Rainy Weds. :headache: , not very spring-like.

Sara - I think I'll definitely sign up for Baltimore's 1/2 before April 1 deadline :thumbsup2 . Glad you're sporadically running, anyway. Tough taking the dog on a run.

Lou - I usually don't get sick after marathons & stuff, but there's always that big let down & funk afterward. You should still be gloating over your time, dude. 4 miles is more than I would be doing after a performance like that. In fact, when I run more than 3 miles nowadays it's like "wow"!:confused3 .

Mike - Glad to see you're doing speedwork. Judging from your reaction to that 5k, I think speedwork is the key to your BQing. What DO you have to run to qualify, anyway?

Colleen - COME to Baltimore, OK :flower3: ? What was the problem with that weekend, again? Swimming? popcorn::

Chester - Could you do Baltimore?

Dave - How's the little one today? Still sick? Did you put yourself on the waiting list for Pitts?

Howard - Is Baltimore the same weekend as Ridgefield?

I ran 3 yesterday & 5 the day before. Nothin' today.:cheer2:

Hey Bots!

I am dragging today. Slight fever and sore throat has me down. Hard to say if I am sick from running, allergies, or just got a bug.

Jodi - I'm not gloating about the time but I am happy about it. It was a PR but the more I think about it the more I realize I could have done better. One thing that ticked me off is that I ran the entire 13.1 miles with this young guy that had a tied tie dye shirt with the following quote on the back: Somebody may beat me, but they are going to have to bleed to do it. - Steve Prefontaine

We kept passing each other the whole race. I passed this guy around Mile 11 and thought I left him for good. Then at Mile 12 I see the back of his shirt again and I am too low on gas to stay with him. When I made the turn for the finish I could still see his shirt about 100 yds in front of me but couldn't catch him. The quote bugged me. I have to invent stuff like that to keep motivated. Maybe he was just in my imagination.

Back to work.

Lou

Chester - Could you do Baltimore?

Jodi
I could but.....I don't think I will have the cash to spare. Trying to make sure that I have the funds to make it to Honolulu in December. Also, they laid off another guy at work. We now just have 2 Architects and 1 draftsman and 1 planner left in our department. There is a very good chance that I'm next on the hit list.:scared1:

Lou, I say this same quote this past weekend at the swim meet.:rotfl:

I walked 4 miles yesterday.:woohoo:

Mike, did I see a Goofy 2010 clippie on one of Kathy's posts?popcorn:: I hope so!
