I read "Murder on the Orient Express" when I was in high school. I was on an Agatha Christie kick for a while.
I am currently reading "Indiana, Indiana" by Laird Hunt. Weird, mysterious, intriguing, once you get the hang of his stream-of-consciousness writing style.
Before that, I read "Lucky: A Memoir" by Alice Sebold. I had read the more well-known "The Lovely Bones" by the same author earlier this summer, but I thought "Lucky" was a more interesting read. A graphic, searing account of her own rape when she was a freshman in college, and its aftermath.
Also read "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom. Touching and sentimental, if somewhat sugary sweet.
Read two books my sister lent to me last year -- "The Nanny Diaries" and "I Don't Know How She Does It". Similar in that they humorously touch on childcare and all its pain, pleasure, guilt, and heartbreak.
Earlier read "Me Talk Pretty Someday" by David Sedaris. He has another book out, "Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim". His observations on the absurdities of modern life are hilarious.
I started "The Virgin Suicides" after I heard a review of a newer book by the same author, Jeffrey Eugenides, but never finished it, and had to return it to the library.
On my list to read: "The Bonesetter's Daughter" by Amy Tan (author of "The Joy Luck Club" - it's on my nightstand right now!
"Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown
"A Child Called It" by Dave Pelzer
"The Life of Pi" by Yann Martel
"The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd
"Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides
"Eats Shoots and Leaves" by Lynne Truss
and the above mentioned "Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim" and "The Virgin Suicides"
I like to read -- can you tell?
