We just got back from disney this past tuesday we stayed 7nights 8 days at ssr. We were disappointed, we have stayed here in the past and never had a problem. We own 150 pts at vero beach and additional 85 pts at ssr. We are only 28 years old so I am not sure if this is why the lady from check in was rude to us or what. First of all Our room number was 5712 in the paddock which is right across the street from the fire station which had a call at least once every 2 hrs. we could not have our patio doors open cause we have a 16month old and when she would nap the doors had to be closed we would hear the sirens all the time. I guess it wasnt all that bad till the night time, cause most of the day were at the parks. the second bad thing was the bathrooms in the lobby area are a reck. Some stalls have doors missing, the stalls were coming a part from the walls, locks were missing. This resort is not that old y in the world wouldnt they check this stuff, I have pictures to prove it. when I went to the front the girl was like ok I will have someone look at that. Ok who ever cleans them should know this, and have mentioned something to the maintance people. Isnt the money at the end of the year that we pay suppose to go for fixing things like this? I think that this resort is toooo large for what they have to offer. one self serve restuarant that can handle maybe 25 people at most. 4 pool areas which is nice to have it spread out instead of one. all in all this resort is good if u are going with a large group and want to go your own ways. all in all the bw or ak are way better resorts. maybe cause there more all together then all spread out like ssr.

I think SSR is far from a value resort, but everyone has his or her own opinion. Some people like the hotel feel of a resort (sounds like that is what you prefer); others, like us, like the community feel of a resort (like SSR or OKW). Which is what makes DVC pretty good. Everyone can find something they like in a resort. If they can't, they probably shouldn't own at DVC.

We loved SSR when we stayed there in October. The room was like those at a Deluxe, the pool and pool bar at The Grandstand was great. We rarely eat at a resort so the restaurant or food court wasn't too important to us, but the bar was very useful for a snack on our arrival night :) The Grandstand area was so peaceful and the views over the golf course made it feel so relaxing. We also loved the SSR Spa and will certainly be paying a visit in May :thumbsup2 We own at AKV but would not hestitate to go back to SSR if we couldn't get into AKV.

Claire ;)

dont get me wrong we love ssr but the bathrooms in the lobby area are a reck. if I only knew how to post pictures on here
i will show u people what I am talking about. we want the grandstand area and there were no rooms avalible.

I don't recall the bathrooms in the main building by the lobby being in poor condition back in October :confused3

Wow, I'm sure being across from a fire station has it's plusses, but not for people on vacation. For lots of reasons, I'm sorry the fire station had so many calls.

REALLY perceptive insights for a person with TWO posts, both on this thread.

How's the troll business?

The firs station would driven me crazy! We stayed in Carousel and had a lovely view of the main road :confused3 for our Dec 06 vacation. I thought the resort was beautiful but it is really spread out without enough dining options for as many people as there are. Sorry, you had to deal with that on your trip:guilty:

Depends on your perspective, Bobbi. I remember a post a while back from a woman whose husband was a firefighter, and they actually requested a "Firehouse View!"

It IS an awesome firehouse!

{shrug} Everyone needs to start somewhere. I just wish s/he would use a spell checker and paragraphs. I won't be able to read any more of his/her posts otherwise.

Don't be so harsh, having only 2 posts doesn't mean that this person doesn't have a valid opinion. Only that they have never shared it on these boards before. Obviously this issue was important enough for her to share.

I am shocked at how defensive people on these boards get any time I share an opinion. Every time I plan my vacation times I check these boards for comments. All of the comments, positive and negative, that I read on these boards influence my decisions on where I go on vacation, what I do, etc. If Disney is smart they monitor these boards and check into the comments. If you see agreement or the same comment many times I say "be forwarned". You can usually tell if it is only a one time personal rant.

Count me in as someone who would like a firehouse view. But, wouldn't the firehouse be on the entrance door side of the villa anyway? Not the balcony side? Except maybe for the studios on the end.

thank you so much. These people are harsh on here. I may only have 2 post on here but as I recall this is a disboard. Its for people that have opions about there trip. I never made a comment about any people on here and for people to make comments about me they shouldnt. They dont know me. I may only have 235 pts through dvc and may only be 28 years old but I am sorry That my trip wasnt going to be the best ever. I never planned it to be this way. I actually had a great time at the parks. and ssr is a wonderful resort. I feel that the dues that we pay, should go into the repairs needed. Like the bathrooms in the lobby. that is my opion. If I knew how to post pics on here I would show u what I am talking about. I have pics to prove what I am talking about with the bathrooms being a reck.

You might want to go to the member website and use the "contact us" link to let them know about the poor condition of the rest rooms off the lobby area.

http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/index

Just log in and click on Contact at the top of the page. Look for Contact Member Services and it will open up a contact form which includes your name and member number.

I know that I usually call Maintenance when I find a problem in my villa. But this might work best for you.

Welcome to the DISboards... truly.

Sometimes people get defensive and are a little harse. Stop worrying about your age. You are a grown up adult. I have owned for 10 years and only have 200 points so don't let that be a hang-up either. That said I wouldn't want the fire house location either, especially with an infant.

If you want to post pictures, set up an account at photobucket.com and upload your photos there. Then click on the IMG to copy it and then paste it in your next post. They help you walk through it.

Please post the pictures. In my 11 trips there i have never notice the lobby bathrooms bring a mess let alone the doors falling off.But will let you know if they have fix them in 28days.

However, the title of the post ("the value resort of dvc") was of course, going to draw some responses, especially from those folks that own at SSR.

OR...who have been around long enough to see a troll banned, reappear under numerous aliases, get banned again, start threads that get "poofed" repeatedly, go to live on another board (don't know how he's behaving over there), return to the DIS repeatedly to get "poofed" over and over.

Let's see how long this thread lasts...
